Got this idea of another forum I'm on. Basically, post a car(s) you wanted 5-10 years ago, and what car(s) you want today.

As I posted there.
5 Years Ago:

Today:
lamborghinidiablovtblackfrontanglestym9.jpg

This car is just too gorgeous, mean, and decieving to want something else in its place. I don't think I could even pick the Miura or the F40 in its place. She's just that much of a badass.

10 Years Ago:

What can I say...it was the blue car in the first Need for Speed game, and blue is my favorite color. To say the least, I knew very little about cars at the age of 10.

3-5 Years Ago:

After my "Viper days," I learned to embrace my German heritage as it pertained to the automotive world, selecting Porsche as my favorite (Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed was a factor in this). I had only known about the 911 for most of my life, but NFS:PU opened my eyes to the "lesser" models that Porsche offered in the past, and as an impressionable teenager looking for ideas for a cool first car, they caught my eye.

For some reason, I was convinced that I could get my hands on a 944 for $2000 or so. Eventually, I realized that I was expecting too much, so I started looking at 924s instead. That still proved to be too much, so I downgraded once again to the 914. Even still, the 914 was too expensive for what it was and even harder to find than 924s and 944s.

It was when I discovered that I could get a pristine E30 318i that ran perfectly for the price of a rusty, dented-up 914 without an engine, that I became a BMW fan first and foremost. "Besides," I said to myself at the time, "my German heritage originates in Bavaria anyway." :D My love of Porsches was relegated to second place, but hasn't died down. I would still love to have a 944.

Today:

My current dreamcar. Someday, I will own one myself. :sly: 2.5L of 4-cylinder DTM fury...

Hmmmm...

10 years ago, or even more, I'd imagine... my dream car was thus:

1994fin_0.jpg

Lancia Delta Integrale

I had a thing for the Lotus Esprit, mind you, but watching the Integrale flying around rally stages in my youth were a fond memory of Saturday afternoons in front of the TV. I couldn't imagine a cooler car, and the relatively pedestrian roots and looks made it even more special, in an odd way. This car is probably responsible for my love of rep-mobiles and compact cars... it was the original ****ty car that went fast.

5 years ago:

I was driving a cheap Sentra every day, and, I must confess, fanboyism took a great hold of me. My dream car of the time was a simple little thing:

nissansentraser1991front1.jpg

Nissan Sentra SE-R - the "classic" B13

It was light, and that light body and torquey power plant made it a surprisingly competent match for the Honda Integra at the time. It was the low-man on any car enthusiast's totem pole, but memories of threading a regular B13 through the mountains just a month after I'd learned how to drive had been etched into my mind by this time.

I'd tried transplanting an SR20 into my B14, but the driving experience was never the same... I could get the speed equation right, but never the handling. Damn on Nissan for not keeping IRS on the Sentra... :(

Dream Car now?

Hell, we all have lots of dreams, but in my mind, my dream-cars are simple, liveable and realistically attainable...

380665_78_full.jpg

Ford Lynx RS 03-05 - based on the Mazda Protege MP3 01-03

Not much more powerful than the SE-R, and the engine isn't nearly as good as the SR20. It's slower in a straight line, too.

As dream cars go, it's a bust. It's wrong-wheel drive, for one. It's too heavy, and a four-door, to boot. Hell, it's an old Mazda 323 platform stretched and reinforced to within an inch of its life, and it isn't even turbocharged or four-wheel drive... the gearshift is notchy, sound insulation could be better, considering the weight, and the engine gets sluggish in traffic...

But I love it to death. I've always liked cars that handle well, and the first turn of the wheel on this car convinced me I had to have it... especially considering how expensive a new Bimmer would be... ...so I got it... and every time I turn down the street coming out of the garage, it still puts a smile on my face. :D

What a great idea for a topic!

TEN YEARS AGO

Just like any other Chevrolet-loving kid out there, I was in love with the Corvette. Although we were on the verge of having the C5 Corvette hit the streets, I was still in love with the last of the C4 Corvettes. But, alas, the '96 Gran Sport wasn't at the top of my list. Take one more step back to '95, and we would have found the fastest Corvette yet to be made; The 405 BHP Corvette ZR1.

chevrolet-corvette-1990a.jpg

(1990 Model Pictured)

They are still among my favorite Corvettes, but of course, tastes change... Sort of...

---

FIVE YEARS AGO

Well, time goes on and well not a whole lot changed. I was still in love with the Corvette, and once again we were on the verge of another shift in American performance. The Corvette, not looking to be left behind with the latest Viper change, had introduced and updated the Z06 model in less than a year. I was in love once again with a girl called Corvette, and this time she packed a punch. This was the modern Corvette; Powerful and civilized at the same time.

chevrolet-corvette-2002a-small.jpg

(2002 Model Pictured)

The 2002-2004 Corvette Z06 continues to be a favorite as well, given that they are quite fast, fuel efficent, and can be as civilized as a Honda Civic when need be. Although the looks seem to be a bit long in the tooth now that we are only two years into the C6, but given time, it will be just as "classic" as the C4 ZR1 that it replaced.

---

CURRENTLY

What else is new? Once a Corvette fan, always a Corvette fan... And once again, I'm in love with the top-dog. That is of course the Z06 that we all know and love, and I simply cannot think of many cars that I would really want more than the current American standard in automobiles. Of course, my top car changes quite often these days, particularly with the use of the internet to search for and discover new models... But the Corvette is never far away at any point, as they are undoubtedly one of the best cars sold anywhere on this planet.

LITERALLY RIGHT NOW

As of right now, being completely honest I've lowered my standards a bit. Being "realistic" about what I can and cannot get, I've pretty much set my goal at a late-model 4th Gen Camaro Z/28. They are pretty cheap, easy to run, and somewhat easy to repair. Given that 30 MPG is easily obtainable, they pretty much fit into my fuel requirements, and should offer a bit of fun for the majority of the year (snow could be a problem...).

Given that 30 MPG is easily obtainable.

 Yea, ok. That's the funniest thing I've heard today.

Oh, I should add to the topic.

10 years ago: Lamborghini Countach.

Right now: An Evo IX MR, or my Z28 back. Either or.

Yes, 30 MPG can be done. You of course have to drive the car in the correct way and at the correct speed, equipped of course with the T56 transmission. Our friends have gotten as high as 32 MPG according to their trip computers, that was of course traveling at highway speeds (70-75 MPH) to Chicago with the engine spinning well below 2000 RPM.

As long as it is around 27 MPG overall, I'd be quite happy. Given my current bias twards highway driving (about 30 miles per day, most of it spent between 45-65 MPH) between here and school, it would work out quite well. Of course, insurance would be the killer.

I had one. A 97 Z28 M6. That car NEVER ONCE got over 10mpg. I COULD WATCH THE GAUGE GO DOWN AS I DROVE.

That car averaged 5mpg max. I swear. Not that I cared, it was worth every penny.

And by the by, I'm talking LT1. Not LS1.

Used to be this:

But now a smidgen more reasonable this:

10-15 years ago: when I was like 5 years old, and someone on my street had one of these with it's now distinctive 5.0 sound

5-10 years ago (until a friend got one, and I was unimpressed):

Then I learned more about LS1 vs. Mod motors...and I formed an educated opinion...

Did you disable the CAGS/Skip-Shift?

A 996 Turbo, although I didn't know what a 995 was. I just wanted any new Porsche, as that automatically made it awesome. Now I won't take anything after '89.

I would have loved for 10 years ago to have a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Spyder.

I would have loved 5 years ago to have any generation Corvette.

Today
I wouldn't mind having an Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Simple and to the point. ;)

Guys, please keep the images a reasonable size (under 640px in width) – it’s not fun for me to edit them.

The M5 was a pipe dream, but the MPS3 might be within my reach very soon :D

ten years ago i wanted, and had, a BMW 2002.

today, i want, and still have, that same BMW 2002, but i want an earlier smog exempt one now instead.

i now also want a 1995 mercedes E300 diesel.

ten years ago i wanted, and today i still want, a 72 euro version BMW 3.0CS. euro version doesnt have the tacked on DOT required reflectors bespoiling its sides.

Hmm...
I can't remember back 10 years ago what I would've wanted, but I imagine it would have been either a Chevy truck, or a Corvette.

241452511fullij9ff5no1.jpg

Chevy S10. Specifically, a shortbox, regular cab, 2wd with a 4.3 and a 5-speed. For a few years, I loved those trucks.

mvc021fcxoc6kt7.jpg

Triumph TR6. While I love all TR6's, a Signal Red one is still very close to the top of the list of cars I would love to own.

Last Year
70mgbgtlx3.jpg

MGB-GT. I've loved the classic styling of these cars since I first laid eyes on them. A much rarer (and nicer) car would be an MGC-GT, which featured the BGT body with an Austin-Healy 'Big Six'.
Currently

c3vv9.gif

Any Corvette, but realisticly a later C3 or a C4.
c42us9.jpg

E30 325is or, better yet, an E30 M3. There's an M3 a couple blocks away that I'm keeping an eye on, because if I ever see a 'For Sale' sign on it, I'll snap it up.

A 4th-Gen Camaro, preferably an SS.

I still love the TR6 and the BGT, as well.

10 years (age 2)

89 Sentra- what my dad drove, and what I assume I had wanted.

5 years (age 8 ) Lambourghini Diablo

The car I drove in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2.

2 Years (age 11) Go with the Corvette. Nuff Sed.

1 Year (age 12) 05 Mustang GT

Just looked too much like the 67 fastback.

Now (age 13) Chevrolet Cobalt SS

Yes, the car with the huge wing and the spritely engine.

I devolved from a Diablo to an entry level chevy. :scared:

It's interesting to see what people wanted "back in the day" , and today"
Somehow, I'm not suprised that YSSMAN had/has VETTE/Z-28 dreams.

Ten years ago, anything that rolled off the line at the Porsche factory would have suited me fine. I still hold a place in my heart for the 911s, though I think I could "make do" with a Cayman or Boxster.

5 years ago I wanted a WRX sedan or Wagon.

Currently, I would like to get my grubby paws on a MINI Cooper S. (Yes, I've tried one on, and it does fit) Even going as far as to figure out what it would cost me with and without trding in my Camry. My worry is that it will be as harsh ride-wise, as my pickup, and I want a good "touring" car rather than a "sports" car. And while I am "picky" I'm pretty easy as well...read on.

I am also enamored with the Infiinti G35 Coupe. As it is a better fit comfort wise. But, my local luxury/import dealer always has something interesting on the lot. There is a Nissan Maxima with a 6-speed Manual that has caught my eye, and it's under $10,000. There is also a nice (but high mileage) 98 or 99 Prelude up there for $9K. I am also not against any interesting Audi, VW (other than beetles), BMW, etc. that might come home with me for under $25K...

10 years ago: Viper RT/10
7 years ago: 4th or 5th gen Honda Prelude (Wanted it BAAADD and I got it)
Today there are 2: Porsche 914 and Honda S2000
