changing tyres

I did buy some racing smooth and medium tyres, but every time i go to tuning it says i have sports hard fitted and there seems no way to change. I Assume that its automatic and the tyres will change to the max allowed in that particular race, but the appearance of these sports hard in tuning all the time is worrying.

Ok if you're in a race where there is a tyre limit, then it will change your tyres to meet the regulations.
If you bought and installed the tyres and they are not fitted on your car in a free practice mode, then install them from the tuning screen.
If you bought them but there is no option to equip them, maybe you didn;t install them upon buying. Check your items list for the tyres from the home menu. If you see them on your items list, then they are not installed on your car. Change to the car of your choice, then go back to the items menu and equip the tyres.
I just downed some red bull and typed that in like a second?
 
Tires are not automatically chosen by the restrictions in a lobby. You need to choose the type of tire you want to use from your tuning menu. When a lobby restricts a tire to "Sport Softs", then that is the softest tire that is allowed in that lobby. You can still choose from Comfort hard/medium/soft or Sport hard/medium/soft. You just won't be able to use your racing compound tires. Restricting the tire only limits the upper end of the tire choices.
 
Ok I see. My concern was that when i went to tuning, even while i was 'in' an unrestricted race, tuning still represented my car (top rh corner) as having sports hard tyres. I dont understand why but is it that the minimum tyres automatically appear?
 
Your tyres don't change automatically. If you want the grippiest tyres you're allowed then you have to select them.

If you assume the game will do something automatically for you, you're probably wrong.
 
thanks Ronald that is what i thought but i DONT seem to be able to. We had gt 3 and 4 and it was straight forward but in this one can't see how to do it!

The reason why you are restricted to Sport Hard tyres is because you are probably in a lobby that has the tyre restriction set to Sport Hard, meaning that you cannot use a tyre compound gripper then the restriction set.

To select tyres in the tuning page place the checkmark next to the tyre you want. In the pre-race menu you can go to options and change the tyres there also. Tyres that aren't allowed are grayed out.
 
Thanks again Ronald and everyone else. we have had the ps3 for 2 weeks, having had a 2 for some years. Things are different. Last night i connected it for a software upgrade etc etc and all the information is now obvious and apparent.
