dont have the game yet...really only want to play in the 3rd person view(all i have ever played a racing game in)...dont have a wheel and dont think i am getting one...read alot about how most people think the chase cam is bad...is it a deal breaker if thats the only cam i will play with?

want the best driving game out there...but really only want to play in the 3rd person view...dont have a wheel and dont think i am getting one...read alot about how most people think the chase cam is bad...is it a deal breaker if thats the only cam i will play with?

Absolutely not! I have played every GT game and always in chase cam.
While some purists argue that this is not "REAL" view, I can see 360 deg. around my car which is extremely useful when cornering in a pack. Can't tell you how many times I've been pushed out of my line because someone using bumper cam CANNOT see right or left.

As for the wheel, it is not necessary but I can assure you that racing with one (I bought a refurb DFGT for $80):) will greatly enhance the games experience.

I was a chase cam fan until I bought a wheel.. Now I ve switched to the hood cam. With the chase cam you realize that you don't have much input when there is little oversteer, understeer.
You just think that the wheel is stupid.

In hood cam, you get that input and every sensation felt through the wheel makes perfect sense.

I see no problem choosing that view as an alternative to the bumper or cockpit cam from the sight of a driver in a driver's seat since it's just a game that should not be too "realistic" that everyone else has to select an option of subjective cam which ends up depriving our discretion of selection of our most liked one.

Being able to watch 360 degrees around the car will let you learn how your machine moves at each approach of corner, helping get a few secs off in a better driving line(You can know more what to improve through a closer analysis with a replay analyzer.

I played GT, GT2, GT3, GT4:P, GT4 and GT5:P using the 'chase-cam' view. I always enjoyed being able to see the car, both visually and for accurate placement on the track. I only moved to 'bumper-cam' when i started using a wheel. If that's the view you prefer then it won't be an issue. 👍

Early on in my virtual driving career I used the chase cam (Grand Prix Legends 1998). But when I finally went into cockpit mode and took the time to learn the tracks, the braking points and turn entry points my lap times started coming down.

You can drive from any view if you train there long enough. It is easier to see what's ahead from the trail cam. It's up to you which view to drive from.

Some cars, like the Peugot 905 Le Mans car. The top cam is very low and almost feels like you're in the cockpit. So it doesn't offer as much view of the road ahead as other cars. But trail cam always has a good view.
