Chat Feature?

Ok, shortly after the closing of the How Many Replies Can We Get thread, I remember hearing something about a chat feature that would be available. I'm just curious as to where this went (as I see no direct link at the top of my page). Where did it go?
 
There was one for some time, but Jordan took it off after some people started competing to be the top "poster".

I used the chatroom for about 5mins. It had sounds and it was really cool!

It was better than HMRCWG and Colour Blue because no 30 second rule.

I'm sure after 2weeks of a chat room being up the hype would fade away.
 
I don't think I ever used the chat room...but the shoutbox...now that went down to the dumps.
 
We had a chat room for a short time, but due to several different reasons which have already been discussed and debated, I decided not to continue with it.
 
If this is so necessary, why doesn't a member just host a chatroom outside of GTPlanet? Like a weekly one in Yahoo. You could, if Jordan agrees, use the news forum to announce who will open the room, where, and its name. And the time of day.

It'd be interesting to voice chat, assuming Yahoo lasts for more than 5 minutes.

I searched long time for a good car/videogames chatroom... and couldn't find one...
either nobody or almost nobody was in that chatroom ( 90%)... or idiots come in every 5 min with post like " I'm 14 / 17 / 21 /35 / 45 male / female ...who wants to **** ? "
Then I thought, that GTP would be the ideal place for a chatroom ( members only of course ) because we have 60000 ( or 30000 active ? ) members, always 150 -1200 online, from all over the world, interested in cars and videogames.... that is just perfect !
Newbies could ask questions before posting and there would be some live discussions... I mean not every topic is worth a new thread, and a chat is more dynamic, sometimes it is just fun to directly adress somebody and talk with him...
" Hey member XYZ , I see that you live in county X, always wanted to go there, some ideas how to" " If I take a look at your sig, you seem to drive car XYZ, I also
thought about buying one, what is your personal experience ? " " Who watched
XYZ on TV tonight ?" etc I mean you all know what a chat is, so here my question :

A quick search of this forum (this thread even) would turn up info on that.

A while back, GTPlanet had a function called "the Shoutbox". It went down in a ball of flames and after that, Jordan saw it was too difficult to have the staff moderate and control a similar feature. It would eventually be overrun with crap.

Hence, there will never be another feature like that.

It'll stay open as long as Jordan feels it's not being abused.

Some of the recent talk has caught the eye of the moderating staff, and we've been working on controlling it. However, none of the staff enjoy having to sift through 100posts about absolutely meaningless crap when we first log on.

So, you're likely onto something.

Nobody knows for sure. That's up to you - the people who use it - to decide. But, clearly, if people can't act responsibly in an open forum, why should I bother creating a chat room?
 
I agree.

March is when we started misusing the Convo. Forum, and even now in April, we've had some topics that were close to pushign the limits.
 
Chat room > possibility for moderators to ban people for one month [ banned for chatroom only ] if they don't behave as they should... You wouldn't have to be in there all the time... after having banned 10 or 20 people ( and since it is a chatonly ban you can intervent quickly without any discussion : Bad behavior > Whooosh banned ) everybody will realize that you want to keep the chatroom clean ...
 
As has been stated and reviewed by moderators, banned = banned. There will be no temporary bans.

Do you really expect the staff to give up their hard earned time to babysit a chatroom? Seriously, do you? Jordan has implemented a similar feature and it did not go well. He's stated his opinion in this thread and that is the end of the discussion.

A chat room would be kinda ridiculous. Just think about all the lazy people that would be spamming asking how to get so and so car! Thankfully they havnt found the Conv thread! :) I hope the Conv thread lasts for a while since it is kinda cool to go there and start reading when nothing is going on.
