Greetings! I've been posting here a fair bit already but completely forgot about this introduction section. So, I'm Charlie and I'm studenty sort of guy who, unlike pretty much everyone else I know, doesn't like getting drunk or watching football or stuff like that. Call me boring or odd, I like to think I would do something more meaningful with my time.
Like play Gran Turismo! GT2 for PS1 was pretty much the first game I ever played, and that was where my love of cars began. For some bizarre reason, I was very much attracted to the very oddball and everyday cars rather than the race cars and things. Citroen Xsara, Golf V5, Daihatsu Move are all favourites of GT2.
I'm very much interested in the emotional enjoyment side of cars than the clinical mechanical or practical bits. The looks, the noise, the way it makes you feel rather than what it can do in absolute performance term. I'd take an objectively worse Alfa over a Golf because I fall for all that "soul and passion" rubbish (which is really just a way of selling cars that aren't as good by labelling their shortcomings as "character" or whatever - how oddly cynical of my own thoughts). Likewise, the new Impreza (sorry, WRX STi) might be worse than a Golf R in many respects, but the Subaru World Rally Team, the iconic boxer engine and DAT NOISE sell it to me. Sadly, GT6 seems to fail on this part a little (sounds for instance). The "characterfulness" (for want of a better word) seems to come through in the trailers quite effectively but sadly never quite works in the game.
Other things about me, well, I do like travelling an awful lot (once I get over my irrational fears of things that are new/different for absolutely no reason). Couple of years ago I went to Monaco, which, despite there being relatively little to do compared to Venice or whatever, was frankly a thousand times better because of DEM RIDES YO (Enzo up close and personal
).
People keep telling me I'm hilarious, but never can I be funny on purpose. On the subject of comedy, my favourite comedy TV stuff includes I'm Alan Partridge, Twenty Twelve, W1A, The Trip, and the relatively unknown Operation Good Guys which I'm certain is the funniest TV programme I've ever seen.
I'm also a techy/nerdy sort of person as well, and am rather a retro gamer too.
Well, that was a rambling load of thoughts knocking about in my mind that probably no-one will read. Either way,
rules and I hope I'm in some way useful around here. Frankly, joining GTP was as much as about finding an epic GT community as it was to just encourage me to be less shy/apprehensive/fearful and value myself a wee bit more and to GET INVOLVED WITH STUFF!
You may also like to know that I never once referred to my self as "Chaz" nor did I say "hi", meaning the thread title has suffered a 100% Honesty Disaster.
