When reading GT Life Issue 2 I came across the article on cheap cars under 20,000 credits. I think this is a fantastic idea which could lead to some really close racing so what I am proposing is some online races based around this principle.

Drivers must buy a car for 20,000 credits or less from the Used Car Dealership and then spend any available credits on modifying their chosen ride. This creates the question of what is the best way to spend what remaining cash, if any, to improve the performance of your car.

Do you lower the weight, add power, change tires to make your car the best it can be?

I think a free oil change should be allowed to help with the costs.

Does anyone think this is a good idea and would consider participating? With the cars costing only 20,000 credits it can be open to anyone from beginners to more seasoned racers.

I like this idea - someone did something similar when PSN was down - but it was in the form of a time trial where you just posted your best time - the one drawback in it was that there are a few cars you can get for under 20,000 that come with sports hard tires as standard - mainly mitsubishis - whereas most cars in this range have comfort tyres - this efectively gives you a "free" 6,000 upgrade - & renders everything else pretty uncompetitive. One way round this would be to specify a standard of tyre that people have to upgrade/downgrade to without the cost being incuded in their 20,000. It seems to me this would make it a much more open competition.

Hope this makes sense.

Otherwise great idea - - you could even vary it & have different credit limit each week?

I'm in - depending on tracks and scheduling. This sounds similar to the Lemons to Le Mans thread, but much simpler.

I like the idea of the free upgrade to sports hard tyres as a way to even the field. Me and a friend had a bit of a try out for this and it's interesting as the USD can be so varied depending on when you check it out. My mate ended up in a R32 GTS and I ended up in an 84 Skyline RS Turbo X. We raced a few times around Tsukuba and I was on average 2 seconds down at the end of each race.

But when I checked the USD afterwards the was the FTO GP and it was easily in budget. I was just unlucky this time I guess. Most of all it was fun, which is what this was all about.

I didn't see the lemons to Le Mans thread, could you link me?

And races will be run at UK times maybe around 11pm so it may be ok for you. I will keep working on the rules and see what comes about.

Cool guys, I shall be running some more test laps with a few friends first to see if there are any rules that need changing but hopefully by next weekend we can have the first race of the league.

I will add you guys on PSN pronto.

Anyone racing in this series please add me so we can practice together

This actually seems pretty cool. On Saturdays I'm racing in another league but outside of them, you can count on me to be in. I'm a clean driver, sometimes even a bit "too clean" but should have the pace to make some good battles :)

Awesome, i will get you added asap.

hmm i might be interested! add me : pagiipwns

I think it's a great idea! I'm interested so add me on PSN @ Crazed_Coupe please.

You ought check out the Lemons to Lemans series :sly:

Our next season starts this Wednesday

Wow, I found a piece of gold today. A Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI Version II '95 (annoyingly long name, I know) for some 17,500 credits. That left room for a Sports ECU, Racing Air Filter, Catalytic Conventer and Oil Change (was left with about 100 credits as spare money)...

This sounds like a really good idea. 11pm start sounds good to me as i already race in a TOCCA season and Super GT Sat and Sun. Please PSN Add me (The_Boyce). Cheers.

Like the idea, normally I drive shuffle races but would like even more close racing and less crap cars that you've got to go through. Close racing in slow cars is always fun :).
Though I'm really curious what laptimes to expect from a lap and what cars fit in the budget.
Also, multiple short races or a long one per session?

Here's another idea from me. What About doing this over a few weeks with either a different cash limit or a different drive train each time. I would certainly be up for this so add me to your list.

I like this idea but can I ask what aids are aloud (I like all) and is it going to be races or something else and what time and time zone and what day

I think we should have to pick a car from the New dealership, because it could take a long time to find something you like in the UCD. This way we don't have to wait for anyone, just pick a brand new car and go.

But it wouldn't be fair towards those of us who just lately managed to make a find in the UCD. :(

Hopefully all aids will be banned? At least SRF and Driving Line off? I will pass if they are on....

I like the UCD idea. Will give more car variety. You have 3 weeks to make a sweet score.

As long as you know when race is a few days in advance you should have plenty to choose from. & for me the "randomness " would be part of the fun.

I still like the idea, but I've been busy buying every car in the ucd lately and there are lots of cars under 20k that are nice, but the problem are the evo's. You can get a evo VI rs for 17500, which produces ~300bhp at 1260 kg. power-wise only a legacy will match that in this budget, but that weighs much more and is aimed at comfort, so it won't keep up.

I fear this cup will become the old evo cup race instead of a cup with a variety of cars. In this budget the evo's are simply unbeatable.

easy ... exclude 4wd - or run a seperate 4wd event

Nice i want to take part too

So is the tire cost included and is there restriction?

Is the cup still alive? I didn't even remember this before checking out this forum after a while...

Probably d. Though without wrxs/evos etc. it could be a good cup.
