I was given a Lexmark X1100 three-in-one scanner-printer-copier about a week ago. It was a birthday gift from my inlaws. I've printed and scanned with it and I have to say I am more than a little disappointed with the output quality. Of course I feel bad because it was a gift, but this thing is a cheap piece of crap. I used to get all my pictures put on a CD when I got them developed. When I compare them the Lexmark-scanned photos are very blurry and grainy. I take pride in my photos and it irks me to see them come out so bad. At least I still have the prints, but they can't go online without being scanned.

Why not get a digital camera? I have one! It was another gift from my inlaws. It is also a major peice of crap by any standard, so I never use it. When digital SLR's are in my price range I'll go digital. Until then I'm sticking to my 35mm. Hence, until then, I have to get photos scanned.

So I don't know what to do. I can't tell them. And I'm thinking about maybe exchanging it for something better, if that's possible without the receipt.

I hate it when people give crappy gifts. It puts one in the awkward position of simultaneous gratitude and disappointment which translates to an annoying kind of guilty feeling because I feel selfish and ungrateful, but I know it's really just that my inlaws wouldn't know a good scan if it bit them... *sigh* I don't even know where they bought it.

just wait till chrismas time and u can exchange it at any store that sells that product without a recept. i like digital cameras but i still prefer my manual adjust 35mm.

A lot of p[laces these days will take merchandice (if it was purcased from their store) in exchange without a recipt. Of course, it's always for "in-house" credit only.

But yeah,... I understand your frustration. I doubt you'll find a decent contraption like the one you mentioned for under a grand,... and digital camera's are all over $300 if you want anything 1/2 way nice.

gee, I thought the Sega Dreamcast box with a CD in it was bad (back when Sega Dreamcasts were the system to buy...)
