I was looking at the leaderboards today and noticed a new name in the top 5, Ferris_itr. First thing I thought was this guy had been practicing on his own and wanted to wait until the last minute to post his laps. Then I realized that the Cape Ring car is a tuned 370z, and there is no way to practice with this car outside of Seasonal Events.

I checked the times his laps were posted and saw that on 12/26 at 10:48pm he posted the #4 time on Rome Reverse. Then on 12/26 at 11:31pm he posted the #4 time on Cape Ring. This seemed awfully fishy. You mean to say, this guy comes out of nowhere, gets in a car he has never driven before, and in a mere 43 minutes he was able to post the #4 time on Cape Ring?! That is very hard to believe. Anyone who has run Cape Ring can tell you that it takes a whole lot longer than 43 minutes of practice to post a time of 2:46.132.

It is much easier to believe that someone who is already on top of the leaderboards signed on under a different PSN ID and posted times in order to win more prizes. Do you guys think I am on to something here? Would there be a way for PD to track where the laps were posted from?

I don’t think there is anything to unbelievable that can happen given there are real prizes involved and this is the internet we are talking about. I have seen false flag representations of people in this forum who are from areas, that are not able to race in this competition, and that bothers me. It isn’t something that you have to worry about though, but for us struggling dregs who could be bumped out of the 128 by some inconsiderate bum/bums who if deceitful enough won’t get busted until round 3, is just a sad thing.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Ferris_itr is A spec level 3, B spec level 0, and does not have any trophies for GT5. It is obviously a smurf account. That makes it even more suspicious.

I want to have the contest authorities investigate this to make sure there is no foul play going on.

There is nothing stopping someone from going to their friends house and setting fast times, then going home and setting faster ones. GTPlanet does IP searches, I'm sure Sony does the same, so he didn't do it from the same house or PS3.

In my opinion, this pales in comparison to taking all four wheels off track to gain time.

Also, setting up a 370Z to feel like the GTAcademy tuned version isn't very hard.

I forgot to mention, I love the Smurfs.

Perhaps he wants a friend to join him to fluff the competition lol.

In every single game leaderboards are involved is massive cheating. Now imagine how it is not only having virtual leaderbords but real prices? It´s the net and the flaws of psn. (even on live there is cheating but in my oppinion you can do something about it)

Ha ha I guess you guys have never lost connection to the PSN while running laps? The TT demo last year worked the same way as this. If you get logged out (or log out in the xmb) while running, when you exit the driving screen it will ask you if you want to sign in to PSN. If you select no, it will not submit your fastest lap and your best time from that session is lost. So you can practice all you want that way without actually submitting a time.

That is true. But I would definitely go to my friends house and win him a free wheel... if I had any friends! Really, I have one friend, but he lives about 4 hours away. But I did give him my G25 for X-mas. :)

So everyone remembers, one guy set the fastest laps in both cars during the TT last year on the last day of the competition.

I wouldn't worry about it. If he is discovered to be using two accounts, Sony will find out.

Not if he's using a different ps3 with a different account and at a different location i.e. his friend's house. Cheaters will cheat, there's no stopping it, they will exploit any/all loopholes found in system. The people that are affected most by these actions are the people in the top 25 or top 16 depending on how you look at it.

How about this strategy? Don't worry about the cheaters, just concentrate on what YOU need to get done in order to make it to the next round. The more you get frustrated the less effective you will be in getting a lower time.

Wise words :dopey:

Hunk we already have a 50-page cheater complaint thread in the making- don't you think it would be best to send a message to a mod to close this one? :)

I didnt know about this, I suppose this is possible.

I've been studying the replays of this guy and comparing them to those of some of the leaders. Driving styles are like fingerprints or signatures.

So Choate, ignore the cheaters? =/

Everything will all be sorted out in Orlando. I know that 3 of the 4 guys in front of you right now are in the Northeast anyway, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Just because somebody has set a faster lap time that you, it doesn't mean they're cheating. The person in question has most likely practiced on Cape Ring a lot in the appropriate car in their own time.

Is this an implication? If not, whose 'finger prints' are alike?

I say just race your race. Dont turn this into xbox live.

"Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strength."

Maybe the guy has limited access to the internet, ran to a friends to try it real quick.

Running more than one set of fast laps is a weak thing to do.. and it's the only way of cheating, that can be done only by some. Funny thing is that if it is possible, it also is quite easy to do.

I have never been one to cry hax because someone is quicker than me. I am far from the fastest, especially in GT5 having no previous Gran Turismo experience.

z06 pointed out to me that it is possible to practice in Seasonal Events without posting a lap time on the leaderboards, so this is what I will make myself believe in order to have peace of mind.

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt and just drop it. If he does end up being a multitagger, then well, it won't be the first time I've caught someone doing that in an online tournament.

The dangerous part is when the "fastest" guy decides to get all his mates and their gf's to the nat finals.. or at least half of them. I hope that will never happen... Because it actually is possible.

can someone please explain the point of practicing with out uploading times?

why not just run your "practice" laps in the actual competition. Not like there is a Max lap count or something.

same with the people who are "waiting till the last couple days run there laps" that is just stupid. who cares if we see you ranked 5th or 50th. Honestly nobody cares

But if you're going for the x-factor, doing the best times on the last minute... that really requires something. Stupid? For sure. Amazing? For sure!

I still remember ti-tech's name from a year ago.

Plus no one can follow that ghost.

Wrong, everyone can follow that ghost..

..but I know what you mean!!

We need a worldwide comp with similar price for all to get the ultimate competition what we all would love to see I'm sure. Sadly that will never happen, most propably.
