+ Rep for that post. That's exactly what they want to do. Ford has no other options though (not to go off topic, just thought we needed a comparison), Dad goes in, Likes the Mustang, realizes he has kids, then gets pointed to.... Crown Vic? I think not. To the Chevy Dealer we go!

Ahhh, but by the looks of it the Camaro Concept is a TWO SEATER, the concept has TWO SEATS TOO LITTLE.

The Mustang has FOUR SEATS count them, FOUR. There four(VERY PUNNY), still Ideal for the Family man!

Yes, and the origional Mustang GT concept from a few years back was a two-seater as well. GM doesn't have more room for another two-seat coupe, and given the Camaro's history, it will seat atleast 4 in a 2+2 combo...

Good point, but I never said he went to the Chevy dealer just for the Camaro. And besides, if you EVER find a woman whom you can convince that the Mustang would be a good family car, KEEP HER! She might let you get away with other stuff. lol

You would think so, but I presume that GM is going to bake some "comfort" into the Camaro as best as they possibly can. Of course, it is a sportscar, but overall the ride should be pretty smooth given the use of the IRS and the solid foundings of the Zeta platform. It will be interesting to see what the ride/handeling trade-off will be set at, as you can't automaticially expect BMW 3-series levels of greatness, but should be close.

As I stare into the lines of the next Camaro. I can't help but think of the long 855-945 days for it's arrival. If only they could lessen the due date...

@800th Post.

Also one at the Engine selection

The Camaro will not have any more than 375 Hp for these Reasons:

1- Cannot be as powerful as a corvette

2- Cost would be Too High, as it woudn't be competing with the GT500.

3- It needs to stay in the Mustang's price range, so to lure thier buyers from them.

'Nuff Sed.

Trust me, the Camaro will have 400 BHP available in the SS model...

- "Base" V6: 240-260 BHP 3.9L OHV V6 or 3.6L DOHC Direct Injection V6

- Z/28: 367 BHP L79 V8 with AFM and E85 capability

- SS: 400 BHP LS2, possible AFM addition in the works

- ZL1: 505 BHP LS7

---

Over the years the Camaro has always been a step behind the Corvette in power, and occasionally more powerful depending on what year/engine combo we are talking about. In the early years, you could order your Camaro with a more powerful engine that most Corvette owners would, and comparitively speaking, the '69 COPO SS had a few more ponies that the similarly equipped Corvette of the time.

...By today's standards, it wouldn't matter. With the "Blue Devil" in the works (as it has been confirmed) there isn't any need to worry about a 505 BHP ZL1 model, as there will be a Corvette to top it, but even when the Camaro goes for the 400 BHP LS2, the extra weight of the Camaro (a few hundred less than the rough 4K LBS of the Commodore) should negate most of the performance similarities that you are worried about.

...Guestimates for performance?

I'd peg the next-gen Camaro SS at about the same level as a C5 Z51, or about the same as the GT500, while the Z/28 will be shooting it out with the Shelby GT on price, the Camaro probably with stronger performance.

I'm sure the V6 Camaro will have more HP than the Mustang. It's just up to which V8 Chevrolet will stuff into the engine bay - it cannot be more powerful than a Corvette, yes, but I'm positive that Camaro will have more than 400hp.

Base V6- 255 hp

z/28 V8 - 280/355

SS- 375-390 (or 400-410 YENKO performance package)

...I think you're underestimating what GM will do. Keep in mind that both the CTS-V and GTO had the same power under the hood as the Corvette, other vehicles using the same engine were down only 5 BHP due to the different intake and exhaust setups required.

There will be a 400 BHP Camaro SS, even I'll guarantee that...

Kinda right... The SSR used two different V8's in it's lifetime:

1) The 5.3L Vortec V8, 325 BHP

2) The 6.0L LS2, 395 BHP

Still, different brands, classes, and the SSR had less hp than the Vette.

BTW, why does the SSR in GT4 have only 285 hp?

The 285 BHP version was the 5.3L version. I guess I miss-quoted there, only the current aluminum 5.3L have 325 BHP, the old iron/aluminum 5.3L was rated between 285/295 BHP.
