Well, when you're a Camaro fan, you're a Camaro fan. I'm sure I could have done the same thing if I was in his position...

Nice video, but where is the action. I bet Camaro fans would want to see some good american rubber burning oversteering like mad dang crazy with smokes thrown all over the place with a loud aggressive bicep tearing and the smell of GMs victory. :)

I think I am okay....

Yes, we'd love to see it, but GM won't let it happen. Remember, the silver one is the origional concept/prototype, and they won't let it go on and do any wild stuff. Remember, its a mult-million-dollar one-off prototype, and GM is willing to lose any money with that car.

...Now give it a few months and I'm sure there are going to be plenty of Camaro prototypes running around in Germany on the 'Ring, on-road testing in Australia, and heat testing in the American Southwest... But I can't be certain if they would be dressed as Camaros or as GTOs.

Wow, i cant stop hating this car, its just butt ugly. The interior is even worse then the outside. I wonder what kind of plastics they are going to use in 2009.....probably even cheaper. On the performance side, sounds good :)

That is pure sex. No wait, sex doesn't even compare to that.
It's a good thing that my father also can't wait for the arrival of the Z-L1. Hope he intends to buy one.

Jesus Christ, I never realized how huge those wheels were. They're half the height of the man standing next to it!

Yer, they are seriously large but they look great.

The car itself looks like an overweight pig, just look at it standing the old camaro.

Yes, finally!

The best news to come out from GM in a while.

Awsome! I know what I'm buyin as soon as I get a job to afford it. If that ever happens.

So YSSMAN, do you think this will help gain a lot of money GM has lost through it's "financial" troubles?

^in that last video, that guy needs to shut up. He's just rambling on and on... :p

+1 He is also a p*ssy for not even using the accelerator. I don't want to hear 1000rpms I want to hear 4,000+. I'm not asking for a WOT acceleration tire burnout...just a half dab of throttle for christ sakes.

The Camaro is going to be a step in the right direction, but it isn't going to fix everything. I think to make a completely accurate forcast for what could happen I would have to be able to see the offical stuff on the other Zeta cars, the new Epsilon Malibu, etc.

But generally speaking, yes, I'd place the Camaro as the first big step in a turnaround. The car is going to bring people into the showrooms, if not to buy it, just to see it... All of that generates interest in the brand, and interest in the brand as a whole.

Maybe some guy in his early '30s just found out hes going to be a father, but he wants a Camaro really bad. He talks to the dude at the dealership, and he points him to the Impala (aka Commodore) which should have the same engines and transmissions available, all riding on the same platform, albiet a larger car. Dad buys the car, and goes away happy.

The is the "trickle" effect that the Camaro will have on the brand and the company as a whole that should help turn things around. This is only the start, and we have a long way to go before everything is "peachy" once again...

+ Rep for that post. That's exactly what they want to do. Ford has no other options though (not to go off topic, just thought we needed a comparison), Dad goes in, Likes the Mustang, realizes he has kids, then gets pointed to.... Crown Vic? I think not. To the Chevy Dealer we go!

Naw, its not the fat that makes it look like an overweight pig, its AMERICAN MUSCLE! :sly: Look at it flex itself infront of the cameras. :sly:

Now with the Camaro coming back for sure, I still wonder if GM might want to think about bringing back the Firebird. I just can't imagine a Camaro ONLY without his other evil twin Firebird on the street.

This car does look mean, but I bet this will be in games like:

*Forza 2
*Future TDU booster packs.
*GT5

But this is most likely not going to handle the corners well.

Just cause it's supposed to revive a legendary muscle car by design, doesn't mean it'll handle the same.

This the Corvette's little brother. It'll teach it a few things about speed and handling. ;)

 Yea I'd expect them to make this fast not just in a straight line. Even if it is I still think this car is badass.

The Camaro was never a slouch in the handling department, even with it's solid rear-end. And this one will probably have IRS, unless I missed something.
That being said, a 500 BHP Camaro would probably be overkill against the GT500. The 400 BHP Camaro should spank it quite nicely.

I have an odd feeling the top-of-the-line Camaro will weigh a bit less than 4000lbs. GM seems to have enough sense to remove weight from its top-of-the-line muscle car. That said, I bet Ford boosted sales by leaving in much of the interior for the posers. Come to think of it, I also know they lost a lot of sales because of the same thing.

What are weight predictions? I'd say 3450-3500 for the normal models and hopefully 3300-3350 for the performance models? :) I would LOVE a 3200-lb Camaro with LS7 but I don't think that's do-able. I'll settle. ;)

My weight prediction will be around 3700-3800lb's. I think she will be heavy on weight and power.

I doubt the Firebird at this time because they have a new Goat (GTO) on that same platform.

As much as I'd love to a see a new Firebird to go with the Camaro, I agree that it's probably not going to happen, especially with a new GTO riding on the same platform. However, if GM's market share started to miraculously increase over a period and Pontiac wanted another sporty car, I could see them doing a 2+2 Kappa coupe a la the Saturn Curve concept from a couple years ago and call it the Banshee or Tempest or something.

A couple random comments:

That's the only car I've ever looked at and thought, "that thing is going to kick my ass!" I would like to see the top of the line Camaro have an available "Intimidator" package, that would have possibly a matte black paint job, and be named after the cars intimidating looks, and The Man Himself.

I got misty eyed a couple times during those vids. Along with nearly messing my pants when I could actually hear that rumble. I swear I could hear "I'm hungry for mustang" somewhere in that exhaust note.

As said many times before, This car is BADASS!!!!!!

Barring any catastrophic fuel crisis between now and Q1 2009, I have no reason to think they wont sell 100,000+ of these monsters.

This is exactly what GM needed to do, if not a little late.

Well, I'm going to have to dissagree on that one.

First of all, the car isn't out yet, so nothing can be completely offical. However, given that it is based on the same platform as the all-new Holden Commodore (and eventually the Monaro), the car should offer the same hevy (yet well-founded) handeling that came with the previous generation platform.

Now we aren't talking about "changing the world" performance here, skidpad ratings right around 0.9g, slalom tests in the neighborhood of the mid 60 MPH area. A good ammount of handeling that is going to be in a car that will for the most part be driven as quickly as possible in a straight line by many of it's owners.

...And to answer an overall question, yes the next-gen Camaro has an IRS hanging out back. Trust me its a good thing, but some of the Camaro fans (that would be my father and a few of his friends) are allready complaining. They want to go straight, I want to take it through the bends. I suppose it is another case of the "generation gap," but either way, we are both excited about the car comming out.

Well the 09 thing is a little disapointing but at the same time my first thought was, "well my Cobalt will be paid off by then" and if I don't do anything stupid like get married between now and then this would be a great weekend car for me in 09. Then I could use the Cobalt as a DD.

I'm excited, come on 2009!

on the old Camaro not handling well......

I give you this.

This one's gonna handle fairly well, especially in its' price category.

The origionals handeled great in their time, those Z/28s putting the Mustang, Challenger, 'Cuda, AMX, etc to shame in the Trans-AM series.

The Camaro has always handeled well enough to keep most folks happy, particularly the Z/28 models. We can all thank the Corvette for that, as the two cars always shared technology between them.
