General Motors has raised the price on the 2007 Corvette Z06 to $70,000 — up significantly from last year's $65,700. Why the $4,300 price jump? GM says the new Z06 has a larger glove box, the option of ordering OnStar, and improved interior acoustics. The super 'Vette is also available in a new color — Atomic Orange Metallic.

I'm digging the color, man. Sunburst orange was too odd on the Corvette, in the way it wasn't orange enough. Atomic Orange does a good job matching what I want, but I'd rather see Huggar Orange or Chevy Orange come back as an option...

As for the price hike on the Z06, I don't think its a big deal. Considering you are getting more stuff for about the price you would have predicted to pay anyway, you can't complain too much. Its still the biggest bargain here in the US performance and price wise, as nothing else comes close for $70K.

Pretty cool, but does that mean the dealers who already have the Z06s above MSRP are going to get a hike too?

I've heard some dealers are offering Z06s at $75-$80K.:scared:

Meh, that's not a big deal. If you're willing to pay $65k for performance of a $200k car, you can fork out an extra $5k.

how much is a M5?

I dont liuke that new colour, its doesnt make the car look badass. Red, yellow, blue and black suit it best.

The colours lright, but I think the price hike has simply been done because they can, and people will still pay it. They haven't added 5k worth of extras, I wonder if that means the UK price will go up to £65k, which will certainly not increase sales.

$81,200 without any options. Thats $11,000 that I can spend on something else, despite the "practicality" of the M5.

As for the color, I've always liked Orange Corvettes...

I'll admit that I like this Atomic Orange color. That color is almost like gold. I respect the Corvette for what it is. Still have yet to bond with the C6 on a looks basis. I'm also trying to bond with it on the basis of "why get a xxxx yyyy when you can have a Corvette?" The Corvette is surely an American sports capable of almost anything as well as an automobile to be excited about for most sports car types. It's already shown its strength in motorsports where the C6-R has some Le Mans victories as well as plenty of ALMS GT1 victories. Corvettes are among some of my favorite American cars. I think people who have the money to go for a C6 ZO6 will pay just about anything to have one- even if it costs as much as a Mercedes SLR McLaren or a Ferrari Enzo.

Now some of you say this price hike thing is sort of out of whack. Paying $70K for this Corvette may seem pretty steep for some fans. Question is, if you could find better cars for about $70K, what else is there? And is this C6 ZO6 WORTH $70K to spend on? I'm not hating on this car. Just want to provide some discussion.

heh heh, it looks like butterscotch.

It's still a good deal. Until it hit's about 85K stock :)

If it goes upto £65k here that put's it more expensive than the M5, I know which I'd preffer, but anyhow, the Z06 and M5 are vastly different animals, a car with 4 seats has tonnes more appeal to me because I know I'll need them.

Of course. But only an idiot buys a Vette as their only car. No matter what the situation.

It's the same with most sportscars, or at least you'd think it was, there are plenty of diots around.

I never thought orange was a good color for any car, but this orange doesn't look too bad. I am also with most of you people, 5K hike isn't really much of a difference. Maybe you can take some of it off with taking out the price of OnStar? :)

Hugger Orange? Is that you?

Now all it needs is a little less shine and a nice black stripe...

Atomic Orange is one of those colors that will go down in history, I can feel it.

I'll still take mine in Yellow. with a fuctional wing, and other aero devices. and open exhaust, and...

aw, hell, just give me a C6R.

As long as you are not a blue blood who NEEDS comfortable ride, and careless enough to say no to all of your friends, I don't see the complication of owning only a sportscar.

Ugh, it looks like a color somebody living in the '70s would use for their house.

Uh...space for some light cargo?

Majority of Sportscars do have boots, for example the ZO6 here is a hatchback (forgive me for saying so, I know it doesn't sound good).

Meh, its what it is. Most Corvette guys either call it a "liftback" or the "glass hatch," but everyone knows its a "hatchback." And in all actuallity, the rear hatch in the Corvette is actually quite large and can hold a good ammount of stuff if you are planning to travel somewhere.

Basically if you don't havee much shopping to do, ever, don't drive often, never feel the need to carry anything more than a golf bag and are pretty much a loner you'll get by fine with a sportscar as your only car. Well that's an exaggeration but hey, I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm saying it's highly impractical and imo theres little point in deliberaly owning something that's impractical, unless you already own something that's practical. Ofcourse it's a personal choice for each person to make based on their preferrence and circumstance.

Sorry but if I could afford this, I would buy it, even if I had no other car.

And that color is BULL****! They stole my Idea! I put that EXACT same color on a photoshopped Corvetted a week ago (see below)

I should sue GM! lol

Not being much an extrovert, that color will never find its way into my driveway, but I can see a lot of sales in this color. I don't think it really suits the car, though. The traditional Corvette colors always seem to look good, and I'd like to see some of the more interesting 60's colors (even Mopar ones, like Plum Crazy and Lemon Twist). This orange looks like week-old Tang.

I kinda want to see how good it will look on the next Camaro, or maybe if GM gets smart, they bring back Chevy or Hugger Orange...?

RE: practicality?

Seeing as how most people only ever drive themselves around, I'd say a Corvette is as practical as most anything else. My aunt drives their Viper (an 05) to work (she works at a Primary school) every day. You just stick the groceries in the passenger seat if they won't all fit in the trunk.

But my Proty has that beat on cargo space. I carry a crib, a stroller, a baby carriage, four adults, one baby, six or seven bags, a sterilizer, a laptop and maybe five to ten gallons of potable water every time we go on a family trip... who needs a minivan?

Will dealers still be marking up the price of this car after GM's done so?

Id have to be inclined to take the M5 if they did, especially since hearing upon the news that a german tuner has got a extra 100horses out of the M5 engine remapping the ECU alone.

Fantastic!

I was going to buy the 911, but if this has a bigger glovebox, well. That changes everything.

So, to sum it up, if you are single, it can be done.

I do however disagree with the "don't drive often" part... Why buy a sports car if you don't like driving?:)

GM is marking up the price because of the new equipment, with the dealers it is up to them and the people who will be buying the cars. Thus far, I've never seen a Z06 sitting on any of the local Chevrolet lots, every single one of them that I have seen has been driving around town, and driving hard.

Dealer markups on the car won't be outrageous, that is if there are any, so it all depends on how big the demand is in the local area.

...Considering that this Z06 isn't nearly as rare as the ZR1 that preceeded it, I doubt we can expect the $5-15K dealer markups like they once had.
