Chevy Cobalt LS

A friend of mine has a Cobalt, probably an LS (whatever the ordinary sedan is). Nothing special, really...just another boring, compact, FWD bargain sedan. Doesn't fly up a highway onramp with much enthusiasm...I imagine a VW would do better.

Anyway, if he wants a Golf, he should wait until the new one comes out...I've heard nothing but excellent things about them. If he doesn't mind having a Golf sedan, we americans have the new Jetta already...just tell him to avoid the 5-cylinder engine... :indiff:

They have soft suspension because our roads are crap. Michigan has some of the worse roads I have ever seen ever!

When I was cruyising about in florida I thought your roads were good...nice and smooth and straight.

the UK has some of the worse roads in europe. Well compared to france belgium and germany anyway.
first off, I'll believe a diesel Jetta can go 140 when I see it

Ive done 135mph in my PURPLE 130hp volvo s40 01 model.

No it was directed at Mr. Cocky himself Young_warrior.

No offence but european cars are better. But then we also pay alot more. You cant always have the pie and eat it too. Most your cars today are just dressed up european cars except with lower quality parts used and less inspiring interior. Just like how seats are lower quality VW's.

I'm sure that's part of a reason, but not all of it. Most EU countries have bad roads too and we still don't get soft suspensions. Bosnia has just come out of war and the roads are full of fillings, holes etc...we don't drive soft suspensions.

But maybe that is the point though...the worse the roads, the harder the suspension...
Plus, in EU, especially in Deutschland, its hard to get a drivers licence...you really got to sweat your ass to learn the stuff, while in States, a kid with 17 years on him can get it.
My point, there isn't too much female drivers over here compared to US. Maybe the soft suspension is because of female drivers...just my thinking..

The Cobalt just received - Consumer Reports: Least Reliable Vehicle of the Year Award for small cars. Link

Finally, some hard evidence to back up my "The Cobalt is a piece of ****" statements.

Thats odd because Consumers Reports names the Cobalt SS the best sport compact in their comparo...I believe it beat out the RSX even.

So I don't believe a word that magazine says on anything.

mazda better than Mercedes? that's bollocks... 👎

 Who said that.

Some very strange statements in this thread.
Like this that the cobalt is better than the MKV golf

Price, power, warrenty, you name it I bet it will beat it, while the Golf is a a good car, hatchbacks just don't go well in America, it won't sell

Price yes but if you disregard price the golf annilates the jetta copy cat aka the cobalt. The jetta wasnt even all that good.

But I can quarantee the range topping golf will beat the range topping cobalt on anyhting.

The new Golf won't be out in America for several months so I don't know either.

I dont know you tell me. We only get the real McCoy in the UK.

The problem with all of you EU members stating that the VW kicks the Cobalt's ass is that most of the US' VW's are made in bloody MEXICO (maybe not the Passat?). The quality of Mexican produced goods is lower quality than the US, EU, or Japan. I'd rather own a car made in the US, EU, AU, KOR, and JP than anything Mexico has to offer...this includes any GM model too. Blazin where are the Cobalts made? If they are made here and not Mexico I vote the Cobalt over the Jetta/Golf (with the exception of the R32 Golf which is imported from Germany I believe). Any German assembled entry level saloon will be better than a US assembled entry level saloon. It's a fact, but upfront price comes into play--not resale value. Resale value in the US isn't as important as the EU just so you EU members know...which means buying a car because it has better resale value is just rediculous. Buy a car that you like and can live with and you won't CARE about resale value. This EU vs US arguement really needs to die...seriously. The US, EU, AU, and Japan all make good, great, and ****ty cars. Period.

Note: I am not racist against Mexicans or Latin America so don't even bother to say that I am. I live in Texas in the US so as you can guess most of my friends are indeed Mexican. Just my 2 cents.

I think those cars have to be made to satisfy the requirements, hence they will probably be the same as those in germany.

but yeah, I see where you're going. Cheap labor - low paying people - don't care much about quality.

but I'm pretty sure there is few german (not mexican) "supervisors" who overlook the workers and make sure they don't just slap stuff around...

for a second there i was like...whoa! cool, close to me...(i live in cincinnati area, thats cleveland area)

The honda accord was made in the UK and most things built in the UK break. Yet it didnt. 90% of our clothes are made by cheap labour yet they dont fall to bits do they. Give the mexican people a bit more credit taht theyre more than capable enough to help out a pretty much automated factory.

The Cobalt is built in Lordstown, Ohio.

Hmmm good.

I would hope those German supervisors speak spanish. :sly:

You don't buy millions of dollars worth of Mexican goods--the US does. I speak from experience...they aren't as good as anything build north of the border.

Yet a golf is still a much better finished prodcut than the cobalt which is built in America.

Not that im saying americans cant put cars together they just have trouble with the initial designs to the point they produce cheap volkswagen ripoffs.

And we all know about cheap ripoffs not lasting.

Im surprised GM doesnt come out with a new car 6 months later a rival company does.

The "cheap GM ripoff version"
