Sorry, but I see more women than men driving pick ups over here in California. The only ones driven by males are old rust bucket Toyotas driven by poor workers and the giant Ford Raptor GTX30000 with flowmasters and giant wheels driven by gianter men, or as I call them; "3 Inchers"

On the basis that it's shaped like a handbag, and is the Fiat 500 for people that don't know the Fiat 500 exists. My mother, basically.

They're alien to Jon.

Err, no offence, Jon, in your manly car of butchness.

The colour goes with my shoes, ok? :nervous:

Are you kidding? I live in the Midatlantic suburbs and I see women driving pickups all the time, and female semi drivers at least once a day. A lot of them co-drive with their husbands. If you didn't want any kids, that wouldn't be a bad way to live.

No, I'm not. I wasn't looking specifically, but I would say that very few females drive pick-ups or semis around here.

edit: Forgot to add the around here part

Did you happen to miss almost half the posts above?

(in a twangy female falsetto)

On the road again... I just can't wait to get on the road again... the life I love is driving semis with my man...

Take a trip to Texas; a big ass pickup is what 40% of girls get for their Sweet 16.

No joke, unfortunately. They are the cream of the crop when it comes to, "Cars you should stay the hell away from on a highway".

you MUST be joking. who do you think bought half of the SUV's and trucks that killed the minivans and rose the oil prices?

the Simpsons allready made fun of this

the head noteworthy driver in the " Dalton" season(s?) of Ice Road Truckers is female.

don't tell ME there ain't no women in trucks...of any kind.

I have seen a woman driving in a full-sized purple Dodge RAM while texting. Now that is dangerous.

Biggest chick car ever... VW Jetta (excluding the VR6). And no, I have no idea what side the gas cap is on, nor do I wish to Google it!

around here, it seems to be V6 Mustangs, Chevy cavaliers, and Pontiac Sunfires...and V6 era Mitsubishi Eclipses...basically any "sporty" coupe that's not actually sporting.

Except Monte Carlos. Though it's hard to tell from behind at times, 'till you get alongside and see the Burt Reynold's mustache...

[/stereotyping]

I did not need to google. My parent's own one. The cap's on the right side of the car. Honestly my brother has owned one and I have driven my parent's Jetta. It is true that VW is becoming more popular in the states and the Jetta is more popular than the Golf just because it's an sedan.

Yeah. Disagree with the Jetta. There are plenty of guys driving them in the VW "scene", they're quite popular.

Generally I reckon the VWs that aren't adopted into the scene culture are most likely the chick VWs. Apart, obviously, from girls who follow the scene. I'm sure there's a girl somewhere with a VW Beetle Cabrio with BBS wheels and stretched tyres. Still a chick car, but not in the stereotypical way.

I can assure you a MINI Cooper is not a chicks car.

Here in the stl area cavaqueers are ricer cars and are usually driven by morons and gay guys. honduhs are the least of our worries here. Oh, the cobra was based off the ac bristol not the ac ace.

Whilst I can see where Rey-FD is coming from with the MINI and MX5 above, I'd say both are grey areas. Definitely in the UK there are probably more guys than girls driving MINIs, mostly students it seems. As a rule actually, guys seem to drive the Cooper and Cooper S models and girls drive the more basic One models.

As for the Mazda, it definitely has a chick-car reputation but again, I reckon the gender split is quite even. Certainly for the older cars. Not many "chicks" really like the idea of driving around in a 20-year old draughty convertible, I'd reckon.

The Bristol was just an Ace with a Bristol straight-six engine. So the Cobra was still based on the Ace...

I drive an MX-5 and nobody has said anything girly about it...it's a respectable vehicle. Light, RWD, outhandles most cars on the road.

The circa-2001 generation Mitsu Eclipse though, is a girls car.

Here it's the convertibles, I rarely see a female driving a hard top MINI, it's either young yuppie like guys or older guys looking for something sporty.

Does anyone have a real explanation for why the fuel port changes sides?

Car designer has got back to me.

Man who makes good (European) cars for one of the Big Three
It's unlikely that there is any set 'side' for the filler, except that it'll probably package best if it on the other side to the exhaust. So in all likelihood the decision will probably be down to something stupid like they want to use a carryover BCU module mounting position, which need to be 'x' mm from the hot exhaust which sets the exhaust going down one side, so the filler goes on the opposite side to that.

A decision like that are made at the basic design stage and so once the initial package is worked out, it is unlikely that anyone would bother fundamentally changing it unless there is a good reason.

You probably wanted something more interesting that that...

That's all I ever see here, old people in minis... Also, every girl I talk to wants a jetta, and thinks mustangs are the coolest thingHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA :dopey::dopey::dopey::dopey:

Hmmm, sounds like a reasonable explanation to me. My car has exhausts on both sides though. My last one did too . Maybe they just flip a coin!?

p.s. for the ultimate chick car award, I nominate the following:
