this is very disturbing. i just watched a specail on the new's about the over growing population in china. say for instance, if your wife had more than one child while she was giving birth, BY LAW, she can only keep one.

how do they choose wich one? if the other child had a birth defect , as in handicapped of "specail", they have to abondon that child.

they showed video of ton's of homeless handicapped and "specail" children living in the street's of china.

but, thank's to a program called China Care. some of them chidren have a chance at life now.

China Care is an adoption program started by the U.S., to have american families adopt some of those poor children and give them a home, and the medical care and education they need.

so, the next time you think your life is ****ed up, read this again.

Are you sure that there's a law saying that the parents need to dump all but one of twins, triplets, etc? I'm fairly sure there isn't, firstly because all those ever-so-humanitarian other nations in the world wouldn't stand for it. The UN would have a fit. As far as my knowledge extends, there are tax breaks and the like for families that have fewer children. As a family has more children, they get more taxes, etc. So, it is financially beneficial to have fewer children for tax purposes and for the obvious reasons of buying less food, education, etc. But these are just benefits of having only 1 child. I really doubt that there's any such law prohibiting more children.

However, this still makes for a problem. If a family can only afford one child, and their first child is undesirable (handicapped, ugly, female, whatever), they'll just get rid of the first and try again. Kinda sucks, doesn't it?

Thats some :censored:ed up news, whats with genocide being so popular all of a sudden?

But, of course, the UN doesn't care. It rather complain about how the US is doing "wrong" in the world.

If I remember correctly, people in China have to get a permit to even have a baby.

As far as I know, yes they do. But it's for good reason. Last time I checked, there were 1.3 billion people living in China. And that's 20% of the global population if anyone is wondering. Think about the food shortages China would face if they allowed people to continue having as many children as possible. Oh wait, they already have food shortages in certain areas...

Or, they could just let their people go nuts, like India does. And look at how well they are supporting their population.

*Disclaimer* I don't support abandoning children because they are handicapped.

Yeah, the law in China is one child per family, no exceptions. and yeah, Evo said the other stuff I was gonna say.

The "one-child" policy is not a law, as most people think it is, "it is a policy enforced by the system of punishments"

^ that was the second link from a google search on "china child law"
There have been some modifications, allowing second children for ethnic populations and rural families whose first child is a girl. In 2002, under strong U.S. pressure, Beijing enacted a national law aimed at standardizing birth-control policies and reducing corruption and coercion.
^that was the first link from the same search
Zhao: First, I'd like to explain China's family planning policy. China's family planning policy is not the "one child policy" as understood by some people. The government advocates each couple to have one child in accordance with the family planning policy. However, any couple facing genuine difficulties, mainly those in rural areas whose first child is a girl, can apply for the birth of second child by going through the necessary formalities.
^there's something from the 4th link.

No, it is not against the law to have 2 kids in China. It is detrimental to do so.

Please get your stuff straight.

:p Just makes it easier to read with fewer mistakes, thats all

I wouldnt kill one child if a couple had twins. The permit idea seems much more logical. It sounds like a crazy idea to have to do that kind of thing, but it must be a pretty desperate situation.

Some of the abandoned kids even get sold to doctors, who put them into jars for tests. Some even get turned into freaks where the owner breaks a child's knees and ankles rendering them disabled. The breaks do not heal leaving the child to learn to walk on their hands for some sick freak show.

Okay, listen drift punk. Please don't distribute false (or vague) information so blatantly. It's really annoying.

The one child policy, although not formally written into law consists of three main points.

  • advocating delayed marriage and delayed child bearing
  • advocating fewer and healthier births
  • advocating one child per couple
Besides some de facto exceptions to the policy there are three formal exceptions.

First, ethnic minorities are formally excluded from the policy. Second, if both parents are only children, they are allowed to have more than one child provided the children are spaced more than four years apart. Third, families who have children with mental or physical disabilities are allowed to have a second child.

So it's really not that bad of a deal. This policy was meant for one generation only, primarily to keep the massive population growth in check.

Just look at India, which is still completely out of control. China is doing itself and the world a favor by this policy, even though it's implementation isn't always up to the standards we'd like (as are many other things in China). But it's definitely not a bad thing, and worse than doing nothing like India, which will soon pass China in terms of population.

The only thing I do wonder about is what the consequences will be in the future, if indeed the male population will become significantly larger than the female. Could be interesting.

Our neighbours just picked up their second adopted child (yes, two daughters) from China.
