I'd pick DVDs and TV with subtitles/captions over music, anyday. Don't forget books & videogames either! :D

Not with you there. I'd give up DVDs if it meant being able to hear music. And TV?? That's a no brainer.

Here's a real test. I'd give up being able to see the paintings I paint to hear the music I play.

But I'd still rather be deaf than blind.

AS much as I love music, both making it and listening to it, I would choose to have my sight, such as it is.
Much of what I do is sight dependent.

My main thing with personally choosing vision over sound (even though I'm a devout audiophile) was the ability to read and interact. Even though you're deaf, the world seems much more interactive and imersive than when you're blind.

I grew up with music, and I am a huge fan of it, but I would enjoy the visual pleasure(like scenery, films, Keira Knightley, etc.) more.

It's been brought up already, but you lose out on so much when you can't see. If you can't hear, yes, you'd still lose out on countless things, but do gain few advantages(easier to sleep at night, for instance), which is unimaginable with being blind. More I think about it, more and more I respect the blind people.

You know what would be a tougher choice for me? Like picking between losing a limb, or being deaf. That'll be tough....

I can listen to TV, but can't watch music. Blind.

Plus, I can move around my house in the dark with no problems at all.

Somebody said something about taste. It'd be a lot easier to do the Night Thang with the girlfriend without taste, that's "fa sho"!
But now I'm just trying to sound cool.
I think moving in a pitch black house is different than not being able to see at all. I don't really know how. If you can see, but it's very dark, it's easier to imagine the positions of all your furniture than if you just coudn't see. It's almost like your eyes can see through the dark. Maybe not, I don't know. All I know is that locomotion of any sort would be excessively difficult without sight. Sure, you'd miss out on the nice music, the happy conversations, the frustrating arguments, the soothing voice of the aforementioned girlfriend, but without sight it'd be difficult to find something to eat. What's tougher--feeling lonely 24/7 or starving because you can't find food unless you trip over it? I still think sight is far more important than any other sense except touch.

I chose being deaf over being blind.

Although it would suck big time for me not to be able to listen to music ever again, I'd much rather being able to at least see for the rest of my life, than to hear alone.

Bye bye Pink Floyd :( 👎

Hello Boobies :D 👍

Deaf, i can piss my parents off by turning music up all the way in the middle of the night, i'll just be here on GTP, and my parents will be yelling at me, and i can be all what music?

Haha, I get the joke, but that thing is seriously creepy. I'd never seen one before!

As much as I find the sound of Ferrari's, McLaren's, Porsche's beautiful, I would give up sound as with sight I can still pursue racing. Just install a shift light to aid with knowing where you are in the revs.

Unfortunately, I have... :grumpy: I can't believe anyone remembers those. :scared:

I'd be deaf. I'd HATE not to see where I'm going or doing, but I'd probably be able to put up with being able to see things but not hear them.

Deaf. I cant live without vision, thats my life! Although I listen to more than 4 hours of music on iPod every day too though. But at current pace I will lose sight instead of hearing Im sure

That glowworm looks funny.

deaf.

Cant imagine now being able to see things. Plus if your deaf other senses will be uber good :D

I'd rather be blind. As much as I would love to have vision for certain things, I would die if I couldn't listen to music. Music is one of my biggest passions in life. I love conversations. Not being able to talk to my friends and everyone around me would also be very hard to take. As much as I'd love to see certain people, I would have the will-power to continue life being blind rather than deaf. I love to listen. I love to converse.

I could continue visualising things in my head.

NOTE: I accidentally chose deaf. If someone has read this before they have voted, and if you would rather be deaf than blind, please choose blind and notify Omnis in this thread. Otherwise, Omnis, count one off deaf and add one to blind.

Apologies.

What, are you blind?! :p

I'd go with deafness because if I was blind I wouldn't be able to see.

Condoleeza Rice says "That's all very well danoff, but I'd feel much more vulnerable if I couldn't see rather than couldn't hear."

As much as the loss of the ability to hear/play music would devastate me, the ability to see is just more important.

Nobody tamper with my results, please. Choose honestly, and I will make up for Jimmy's vote.

I'm going with Jimmy, for all his reasoning; I'd die without being able to hear my girlfriend say that she loves me... *cringes at the thought* Also, music is a very big thing for me, an excellent release or whatnot. I'd have to give up this wonderful place, and GT, though.... :(

I'd rather be deaf, than blind.

I can work off of visual cues much easier than audible cues.

I wonder if, as a follow up question, we could even the outcome. In the posts I've read, many people have noted that what they do depends moreon sight than hearing.

If you took the work issue out of the question, how would it change?

Don't answer this question without first answering Omnis original.

But, Would you rather be "Rich and Blind" or "Deaf and Working"?

Deaf and working, I guess. Work didn't really have an effect on my decision. There are much more important things to consider than work and money.

... Would you rather be "Rich and Blind" or "Deaf and Working"?
I'd rather be deaf and working.

There are too many beautiful things to see in this world that I would miss out on if I was blind.

Sure there are some beautiful sounds - the voice of a loved one or a piece of music - but seeing a loved one, a sunset or a tropical island paradise outwiegh not being able to hear them.

As my work is on computer, I can see little variation in what I do now even if I was deaf. My main work communication is email, and I've only ever done two things contianing sound. I could of easily had someone else choose and add the sound for me.

Deaf and working for me.

Not even a question. I would rather be deaf. If your blind that means no more video games, no more typing, no more driving, nothing. No more beautiful colors! A world of darkness. :nervous: :scared:
I would miss the wonderful effect from concerts and surround sound but hell at least I could still see!!! :)
