Choosing AI Opponents

One element that I think has always sadly been missed in the GT series is the option to choose the opponent cars.

In other words you should have a section where you can choose your car, and then choose all the 5 opponents you race against, and choose the track, number of laps etc.

Who agrees with this?:)

I would be good feature to add to arcade mode but not the GT Universe mode.

Countless times I aborted races after taking over all the opponents before the first turn or right after the start...
It sure was frustrating.

So, I think it would definitively be a great option for the arcade mode.

Very well thought! ;)

I wouldn't mind that in Arcade Mode, but choosing opponents in Simulation mode would ruin the fun of the game.

Yeah I agree, I didn't mean in Career mode, that has to be chosen by game, not necessarily arcade mode either....

..... was thinking more of a separate "create a race" mode whereby the only restriction would be that the cars you race in would have to be cars you had already purchased, but you were free to choose any cars/tracks/laps etc for AI.

If it were separate from the simulation mode then it wouldn't ruing any part of the game but would allow us to set up those races we always wanted to.:D

Guess it won't be included as it never has yet, but I think its something so obvious that I am really surprised that PD have never thought of it:banghead:

Would really like a proper event generator.
With manual and automatic selection options.

Yeah like the event generator in GT2 but instead of it being random you can choose the tracks and cars instead if you wanted.

i think you should be able to create your own league with various champiinships and series races (possibly with horsepower restrictions) and let THE GAME choose which opponents it puts against you!!! That would be so fun, especially if there was a wide variety, say like BMW trophy or something. It would style the GT mode a bit like the arcade mode, with competition set to match you, but WITHOUT making the game too predictable...

and another thought, (it almost certainly wont happen but would make a nice inclusion to a future game) you shouldn't be able to choose who you raced against, but how many people you raced against, like having 4 opponents in a lightweight race where all the cars are close together, and having 21 opponents in F1 races so it's more like real life

Yeah I've been vouching for a proper Event Generator since GT3. It'd be nice if you could create your own event allowing you to choose which cars you race against, which track, the individual difficulty level of each opponent, etc. It would also be nice if you could choose to fit specific upgrades to each opponent car so you could create a field as competitive or unfair as you want. I wouldn't mind just sitting back and watching 6 closely-tuned AI cars compete against each other.

what id actually like to see is easy normal hard type of difficulties. could even play it off their a-spec system. what i mean is the game will match the cars in the series to whatever it is your using, of course following the same restrictions as you. in easy you'd have the power/handling advantage. normal the cars would be as even as possible. and obviously hard they would be a class above you. althought the fact all CPU cars are stock makes this more difficult.

just my 2 cents.

I think it's a good idea. I've not got a good win ratio because I enter a championship and get thrashed so I have to quit.

This would be a great addition to gran turrismo especially if you could chose the skill of the ai opponents . it would be great for comparing two (or more) cars

Now I`ve just had a quick arcade-session in my closest EBGAMES-store still awaiting for the release at wednesday. Off course I had to try out the -70 Charger, so I chosed to race -70s cars and went on.
- and what happens? The old Dodge ended up in a heat of brand new high-tech racers, like Zonda & stuff like that. Have I missed something or is the game really that stupid/primitive?

The one (and only) thing disapointing About gt4

The fact they don't use power-to-weight ratio as some sort of initial opponent setting (like "choose cars within 30% if you can, AI"), is one of the enduring mysteries of PD. It seems like it would take about, oh... 7 or 8 seconds of programming.

It seems like I'm either completely waxing the AI, or I have a car that has absolutely no chance of beating anyone else. Really irritating.

Potsy.

Being able to choose opponents would be nice for "photo drive", or whatever it's called. You could photograph a bunch of your favorite cars on the track together.

I think you should be able to choose your opponent cars in arcade and the difficulty percentage like in Toca Race Driver 2. You can make your opponent cars skill from 1-110%. And in simulation mode, 95% is plenty for me.

It should be an option on "Track Meet" at each course. You should be able to pay an entry fee for each car and use cars from your garage. It would be like renting a race course for a day and enviting all of your buddies to drive your race cars.

It's cool that you can get various generations of Skylines and Corvettes etc. together for photoshoots at the manufacturers races, but it would cool to be able to get the Honda roadsters together (S800 race car running with an S2000 race car :) ) or various others. Or just do a "vintage roadster race" and envite some of the British to mix it up with the old Japanese cars. It would make for some nice pictures and some cool "what if" races...

In GT3 they based opponent cars in Arcade Mode off of your car's power-to-weight ratio. However, I guess they didn't use this in GT4.

Like jake11375 said, the event creator in ToCa (i've not got ToCa 2) kept me playing the game for months after i'd finished the career story lines 2 or 3 times. The trouble with the 5 choosen opponents in the GranTurismo games is that you usually have maybe 1 or 2 cars that you may have difficulty beating, and the rest will be easy pickings. If you could have 5 other cars that could potentially win the race it would lead to much closer racing.

of course, one of the biggest things missing is not having more than 5 opponents. GT4, even in its current state of people moaning, would be near perfect if you could have up to 20 opponents like TOCA2.
