I think not
Hi, I saw this in another thread and it got me thinking

This has nothing to do with the OP..

But I just noticed a disturbing trend of people requesting that others start threads for them in the gt5 section

I believe the rule is there for a reason and hope this is being looked at, also pretty lame to find gt5 threads started in other places to 'get around' said rule.

I agree with what Arora is saying and I know many find this annoying but still think the rule is a very important one to keep the already chaotic GT5 board under some kind of control. Maybe we could have a sticky in there stating anyone who posts in the wrong section/makes a thread for someone else will get an automatic temporary ban, a bit like 'In before the lock' posts?

Yes. I too have pointed out in the past that since this rule has been put into effect, there have been alot of GT5 related threads in other sections. I've also noticed people requesting threads to be created for them in the GT5 section.

I think a tempo-ban might be a bit harsh. An infraction would be sutable as it gets the point across.

Now I'll wait for the masses of new members who think the 100 post rule is stupid to find this thread and comment.

I reckon there should be a warning thing before someone tried making a thread in the GT5 section.
Lol I can't wait for it to come out to see how many members that will still say "zOMG STILL NO PORSCHE?!?!?!!11!?"

I think we're doing just fine as we are. Locking the thread and letting the member, and anyone else that reads it, know that it's not acceptable to just post anywhere if you can't post it where you want to put it.

I don't think this warrants a warning or infraction unless it's a repeat offender.

The reason the limitation is in place is to discourage people from making a thread with the first thing that pops into their head and to search for it instead. People who've been around the site longer know that searching = good. In asking a more experienced member to post a thread for them, they're inviting the response "Have you tried searching for it? Look here (link), here (link) or here (link). Does it need a new thread when there's other discussing it?"

Asking other people to post for them is thus a good thing.

Does anyone else think that we could use a "GT5 general questions" thread, to provide a place where people who are currently not able to post threads to ask specific questions that may not warrant a new thread being created, but don't have an appropriate thread to ask them in? While I know we generally don't do threads that are too broad, it seems that such a thread might resolve some of the issues that are arising due to the 100 posts rule (which include people starting threads in the wrong subforum, people posting in irrelevant threads, or asking others to post threads on their behalf...).

Sounds like a good idea to me. There are quite a few members asking questions who are new or just not up to speed so it would be good to have a specific thread for questions where it'll be less likely to get ignored.

Cleaning up after the dog when it poos in the house in one big pile is easier to clean up than when it walks around pooing everywhere. Likewise, I'd imagine having one thread that you know will be spammed is easier than having to go look for it.

I think that would solve many problems where new members make a thread that has allready been answered millions of times. However the one problem with that would be making a new member recognise it rather than just ignoring it and asking there question as they think theirs is "too important" to go in the General Questions thread. Anoyingly this is only though of a month or so before release, how much effort would this would have saved if it was though of a year or so ago.

Well done Touring Mars great idea.

I like your example. ;)

Definately, that's better than my idea :) If you call it the 'not got 100 posts and have something new to post' thread, then people can put stuff in there and either be directed to the appropriate thread by mods/other members or, if it really is newsworthy, the mods can make a new thread for it.

Why can't I create a new topic in the GT5 Forum?

Due to the popularity of GTPlanet's Gran Turismo 5 board, before you can create a new thread or topic there, you must have posted at least 100 messages in our forums (after reaching this threshold, it may take up to one hour for your account status to be updated). This restriction will be lifted after GT5's release along with the introduction of many new sub-forums dedicated to different areas of the game.

If you check the rules, they do say all users will be allowed to create new GT5 threads after the release of GT5, regardless of post count. So when is the new thread ban going to be lifted?
