Citroen Numero 9 Concept
The Concept primarily previews a new D-Segment executive sedan that will presumably be known as the DS9 when it reaches production form. However, it also previews the styling elements of the another 2 vehicles that are to join the DS line-up which Citroen has confirmed will be a C-segment premium sedan and an SUV.
The Numero 9 concept is described as a new take on the shooting brake body style and there is no doubting the sporty aroma that the mode portays.

Under the extremely long hood lies a 1.6 THP petrol engine that generates 225PS (165kW/ 222hp) and 275Nm (203lb-ft) of torque. It is backed up by a lithium-ion powered electric motor that is positioned on the rear axle and generates an additional 70PS (51kW / 69hp). The power from the combustion engine is passed exclusively to the front wheels while the electric motor powers the rear.

The Numero 9 concept is capable of traveling up to 50km (31miles) in all-electric ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) mode before the range extending petrol engine kicks in. It takes 5.4 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100kph (62mph) while the top speed is rated at 244kph (152mph). The package results in an impressive fuel economy figure of 166mpg (1.7L/100km) while CO2 emissions are rated at 39g/km.
The DS line is due to launch in China during 2012 starting with the DS3, DS4 and DS5.

That is beautiful. Looks like a coupe as well, they've done a great job of concealing those rear doors.

I agree, Citroen really are producing the best styled production cars at the moment because they look as bonkers as the concept cars which is something you rarely see done by other manufacturers. The DS3 and 5 are some of the best looking cars out there at the moment IMO.

This new concept seems to be echoing the style of the original 1950's estate DS, looks great.

That is smashing. So odd yet so beautiful. And Shooting Brake, so it's like instant drool from me.

Exactly, the very core of Citroen's ethos.

Awesome car, looks like the french are getting the hang of doing french luxury cars again. 👍

Nice looking, also like the fact that 'numero' means 'number' in Finnish  seems only fitting :D

Imagine what would happen if Citroën got hold of a Peugeot RCZ chassis...

They already have it ;). The RCZ is essentially a Peugeot 308. The Citroen C4 is also a 308, as is the DS4. Thus, Citroen already has the platform.

In other news, I have an RCZ on test next week. Looking forward to it.

In other other news, I like this Citroen. When they're on-form, I genuinely think the French are capable of designing more beautiful cars than anyone else. Citroen has had quite a few of them, and Renault and Peugeot have had some stunners too.

I don't see the DS9 ever being sold in the UK. Europe perhaps, but I suspect this one is mainly for China and China alone. Pity. Ah well, second-hand Jaguar-engines Citroen C6 it is then...

That is absolutely stunning. I think it would sell fairly well over here but not as well as it would it it had an Audi badge on the front. Unfortunately nobody in the UK has any class any more.

Think it's lack of imagination rather than lack of class.

That said, I'm happy for people to keep buying Audis if it means some of the brilliant French stuff stays nice and cheap...

Audi's do seem to be doing well right now, although I still see more BMW's. And I think this could sell, if it had good fuel economy, emissions, and was well equipped for the price.

Price is something the French cars will struggle with. Even the good products don't yet have the reputation to justify large prices, which is why the near-£40k Citroen C6 only sold 4 units in the UK last year, and why I reckon Citroen will struggle to shift the £30k hybrid versions of the C5.

In China, where the Numero 9 is aimed at, they're essentially starting afresh so money may not be as much of an issue.

That little chrome brake duct on the side ruins the whole thing.

Lol, I had too.

I agree, that is a very pretty looking car.

I wouldn't count on there being any, unfortunately. The numbers have already started decreasing on HowManyLeft, and the 3-litre came just a little too late I think. Still, plenty of those uber-efficient, 2.7 lumps floating around... 32mpg is adequate these days, right?

2.7 was a Jag lump too (from the original S-Type diesel, like Clarkson drove around the 'Ring), just a slightly less powerful and efficient one. Plenty around for £5k. Luckily, that's about £5k over my current car budget.

Should do 40-odd mpg on the motorway anyway, which I could probably live with.
