Second one a shoot for Grand Prix I believe.

The SCCA Trans-Am finale at Riverside in 1970 saw Parnelli Jones manhandle his Ford Mustang Boss 302 to victory and gave Ford the season title. Jones drove like a man possessed after being involved in a accident with a backmarker early in the race while leading, as the battle-scars show.

A horde of Porsches makes up the field as the cars are about to set off for the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1978.

The Ford Falcon Cobras of the Moffat Ford Dealers team leads the field down Mountain Straight into Griffins Bend in the opening moments of the 1978 Bathurst 1000. Unfortunately the Fords couldn't repeat the success seen the year before as both Falcons retired with mechanical problems, giving the Bathurst win to Peter Brock and Jim Richards in the Holden Torana A9X.

Holy hang time Batman :eek::scared::bowdown:
There used to be so many places you'd get air on the old Nordschleife. They smoothed a lot of the bumps, crests & rises, together with other safety 'improvements' when they did major renovations in 1970.

I'd love PD to give us a pre-70 Nordschleife

I always knew there were sections where cars would get all four wheels off the ground, I just didn't realise they were going that high and that far.

Having a good look at that pic, I'd say it's pre '66 1.5 litre formula one going by the width of the rear tyres. It might be Formula 2
Both cars look very similar too (Lotuses?) & is that Graham Hill in the 2nd car? Sought of looks like his helmut design.

Though I realize F1 cars would indeed catch air on the Ring, that first image above looks very fake too me, or heavily edited at least. Especially when you look at the ground and shadow below the leading car. I feel like one of those cars doesn't belong.

If you watch the "In-Car 956" video that Derek Bell did it includes his commentary of Nordschleife - he talks about catching air and the likes, even 1983!

I first watched that video as a teenager when I hired it from the local video store. First time I'd seen the Nordschleife & Le Mans Had me absolutely mesmerized. Up until that time, the most thrilling in-car footage I'd seen was from Bathurst.
There's a clip somewhere on YouTube of in-car footage taken during practice for one of the German GPs (1967?). It clearly shows just how wild that place was pre-70.

Modern GT3 cars are (or rather were, before the speed limits) still catching air at the 'Ring (some more than others, unfortunately) and they have so much aero you wouldn't expect them to.

I love the story behind Stuck's iconic jump. He says he purposely went that far over to make sure he caught air for the cameras. I think it might have been in a Classic & Sportscar issue whilst I was a subscriber.

Hey, so how about some more Nordschleife jumps?

If we have to have front & rear wings on Formula One, has an F1 ever looked as good as the high air box period in the mid 70's?
Just look at the width of those tyres and the size of the rear wing. The balance between mechanical & aerodynamic grip is pretty much spot on. No complaints back then about being in the aero hole created by the car in front. If the guy following ever did lose an amount of downforce, he could use his skills & that big fat rubber to get past, or, at least put in a show trying.
Ah, those were the days.

I love that pic of Stuck in the CSL. Classic all over 👍

Two things jump out at me from this set of pics.
1. The B188 was such a good looking car. (I had the 1:20 model)
2. Check out how much understeer Button is dealing with in the Prost

I've got a feeling that's my favourite 80s livery if I was put on the spot. That particular iteration is the most Benetton of them all and there's not much more 80s than that company.

Cool pic of Ayrton Senna, not sure where the location is though.
