Hi. I am just wondering if I am the only one who can not avoid bumping cars when overtaking or doing a corner. It seem impossible for me to get a clean race as much as I want to. To get the best line, I at times need to press the gas and in doing so unintentionally bump other cars. What about yours?

No, I assure you your not alone. Alot of online racers cannot deal with the fact their being, about to be, or have been passed. Discipline is the key to a clean race for me. If I see a faster car coming up behind, or especially if someone has the inside line, I back off. Let them have it, there will be plenty of opportunity for you to make a clean pass elsewhere down the track. You have to learn to be courteous, without being a pushover.

Thanks. It happened so many times that out of the eagerness to pass and overtake, nobody cares about good clean race. Racing is actually discipline also. I will keep that in mind.

I'm try to be a clean driver but when you racing on the best line someone comes up and rams you on purpose on a corner. They don't brake and they just ram you:grumpy:

I too try to race clean. I never make dirty passes, or deliberately ram someone (a spec and online). It's hard however to not make mistakes and I think some people do not realize that. There have been more than one instance where I would misjudge my braking and bump someone. Only to get deliberately rammed off the road by them. It's frustrating to say the least.

I figure the best way to get a clean race is to invite people you know to race with you, providing they are clean racers, you'll get a good race.

I haven't been online racing in weeks due to idiots, it's so off putting.

That's why I only do lounge races with friends.

I don't assume you're the only person bothered with how to race others cleanly so as to observe decencies needed for a skilled online racer, a lot of drivers unaccustomed to manipulating the car are liable to cause collisions leading to a quarrel for infraction of common manners, contributed to arbitrary interpretations of online drivers... So if you have friends on PSN intimate enough to do things with them, how about playing with them to learn courtesy before coming to have comps in a public lobby?

Just remember, you're entitled to your line through a corner. Unless of course it causes a wreck, which should always be avoided for the sake of being the bigger man.

A good competitor will see you approaching the corner and realize they don't have the room to make a pass before you begin your entry. They should just tuck in behind you and follow you through (they actually get BETTER times following the best line than if they stick themselves where they don't belong and cause contact).

A lot of what online races lack in GT5 is foresight. In turn 1 lap 1 no one is going to get the best line, everyone must be curteous to those around them. But one on one racing requires the kind of planning I mention above. Keeping tucked behind until there actually IS a place to pass. That means when you hit turn in, the other driver is ALREADY side-by-side and taking the inside line, if it's a well done pass.

This is much different than poor planning, braking late and assuming the other driver will give up their line so there's no collision, which is bad racing form.

Another thing you can do to avoid this is when there's a driver you know brakes late and is trying to cut you off in corners or hit you is steal the inside line away from him. Do it over and over until he gets the hint. If he's forced to the outside, in theory his line is worse and you get to keep your place. And if he's braking the way he's doing, he's got nowhere to go but off-track.

Well said! 👍
