Clean Run Challenge #15 '07 BMW Concept 1 Series tii
at Cape Ring Inside
First Race in the 500pp FR Challenge Seasonal - 7 laps

Specs: 2007 BMW Concept 1 Series tii on Sports Hards
No added parts. A Premium Concept 1 came to 311hp 1520kg @461pp with initial oil change. This will of course go up with use. Feel free to break in your car.

Ok, back to some overtaking. This Event will be on a tight fast track with some challenging No ABS brake zones. The Concept 1 is a fun little car with plenty of grip. 7 total laps. Dig it.

THE GOAL:
Your fastest Total Race Time. The Race Events are basically Time Trials with moving obstacles (AI). Most are only 5 laps so think of it as a longer Time Trial but with other cars on track. Most races will only last 7-10 minutes. Winning the race is not the end goal-it's the Total Race Time. A 5 lap Overtake Challenge.

THE RULES:
1. No Driving Aids. No SRF, TCS, *ABS, ASM, Active Steering. Driving Line and Transmission Choice are optional. For inexperienced ABS OFF drivers check out this great guide: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=267564&highlight=guide+tO+no+abs

**If you are new to ABS OFF and having difficulty you may use the assist. Experienced no assists drivers are expected to not use it. There will be a separate leaderboard. Please note "ABS" when submitting. Thanks.

2. Tuning Prohibited. No added parts, ballast, weight or engine stages. We may add power if a car is too slow for a decent run but that will be very specific. Brake Balance is all that can be adjusted.

3. Tires. Sports Hards

4. Track Rules: Only fully clean runs. 2 wheels on track at all times. Rumble Strips are part of the track. The white line is the boundary otherwise. Minimal wall contact OK. It will only slow you down anyway. *No initiated AI contact. This is what will make this a REAL challenge! Avoiding other cars may be the hardest aspect. Approach the driving like it's a real life track day.

*Note: To be clear on what constitutes a "clean" pass, we will use this rule from the GTP OLR:

You must establish substantial overlap with the car ahead before they reach the corner’s turn-in point to have the right to drive up their inside, or to expect them to leave inside room for you. At least the front of your car should be up to the driver’s position in the ahead car. The ahead driver has the right to be fully committed to the racing line of their choice without any interference if there was no substantial overlap before he turned in.

So if you've made a clean pass according to this rule and the AI initiates contact, that is acceptable.
In some instances a pass may be accomplished by going inside the AI if they've left sufficient room. As long as you don't initiate contact, it's clean. Just use your best judgement, this is supposed to be fun!

5. 10 Maximum Clean Runs. Restarts or dirty Runs do not count toward the total. Winning the race is not necessary for a submission. No deadline for submitting a time.

Shall I open the batting?

7.06.422
A fairly conservative run - I think there's much more time to be had in the esses and the right hander into the triple-apex left turn. I found I was hitting 4th gear much earlier each time going into the esses, making the exit speed of the looping left hander much higher.
It's a very technical track, and this little bimmer is not something that you can 'hit and hope' in. I found I was overtaking a lot of the AI round the outside of turn 1. Great CRC!!

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, but I've been alongside everyone doing these events for a while. Thanks for having them.

I started out with my first completely squeaky clean run at 7:01.548, which was my forth try overall. I started out almost completely clean at 7:05.7xx, then realized how much grip this car has and dropped considerable minutes while cleaning up my lines, and especially through the quick right left then left left left before the finish.

Stay wide right going into the left going into the aforementioned above esses, just graze the curb on the left side through the corner, and you can pretty much just float forth gear through the beginning then let the car open up and gain speed up that hill. Good stuff.

Thanks for submitting EeePee. Glad you're enjoying it.

I'm running behind this week. Haven't got any runs in or come up with a new Challenge for next week yet.

^^I've been trying a few races in few Vettes and Vipers - will let you know. Why not let this CRC roll for another week?

Ok, that's fine. I've got tomorow off, maybe I can get a good combo up. Next week the Demo comes out. I imagine spending a lot of time messing around with the zippy new physics. Going back to GT5 could be depressing!

Got my first session in after a week or so off tonight and feeling a bit rusty. Did a 7:06.702 after a few messed up attempts. It's a very easy car to drive after the last few monsters but this is a tricky little track. I'm struggling to find the best lines and can't decide whether it's better to keep it tidy or push it to the limit.

Welcome EeePee. It's nice to have a new participant and that's a pretty impressive start. Any more lurkers out there please feel free to post your times, particularly if you're slower than me.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I had to edit my post because I was wrong on my directions as I was thinking of the full Cape Ring while typing. I meant the quick right left then left left left before the finish. Getting that quick right left and second left (where they tap the brake) fast was pretty important to a fast run.

Find the line through the esses that allows you to floor it after the initial turn in lift in forth for the first left (graze the curb) and all the way up the big long uphill left until you just see the curbs on the left, right before the quick right left.

Yeah not bad for a DS3 user, eh? Brakes were set to 3/0 to be about the same as with ABS at 1. Car is at 317 hp also, so make sure you "get some practice in".

Sorry, little chatty today.

Finally got around to the Cape for a few spins. First run was a 7:03.984. Was running 3/0 BB but I was locking into turn 1 so backed off to 2/0. It can be a little tail happy off the brake and push up the big sweep too. Needs a strong entry up that long hill. So next down to 7:01.712. Better but got held up by traffic. Next run was a 7:01.159. Traffic no problem but lost traction a bit on lap 6 and lost a second in sector 1. Beat the Shelby into the chicane brake zone and won with him on my tail. Fun race, great arm work out!

Cape Ring I've never been crazy about but I'm trying to appreciate all the tracks. So much hate and complaint I've been reading on GTP lately...tracks you hate, GT6 is gonna be bad, where's what "I" want, want, want. I guess it's an internet complaint generation. GT5 is my little refuge from real life not something to pick apart like a gaming critic. Rant over...that felt good! Back to the track.

Nicely done, I can respectfully take second place. 👍

Though I have two more tries left. :)

I was just ahead of the Shelby in the end as well, he filled my rear view mirror.

I felt in tune with this car so much that I used it (with Comfort Hards) for the new Seasonal drifting at the Autumn Ring and easily got Gold first try. 👍

Nice job Eepee n NCR, I finally hooked up the tii to post 7.01.462.
And same as you guys, got the charger in the last chicane. Was beginning to feel like I'd lost it with my previous time!

Ran again for an hour and picked up some time. First was a 7:01.043 against the Shelby grid. Still at B/B 2/0. Then ran against the M3 grid and hit a 6:59.903. I slid through the chicane a couple times barely maintaining control. Then next run broke earlier there and down to 6:58.664. Was hoping for a sub 7:00. Ran most laps under 1:00 with a BL of 59.203. Great little car, lots of grip and power.
