I'm looking for suggestions...what are some of your favorite car/race combinations? I'm trying to find combos that not only match the car to the track, but also to the field so the racing is competitive and difficult! No "Escudo in the S.S. enduro" please! :boggled: I came up with the idea for this thread after I read that the 199hp ZZS is the lowest power car that can win the PD cup. As a test race, I took the Lotus Elise 190 (196hp w/oil change and T4 front/T3 rear tires) out on Tokyo R246 reverse (last race PD cup) and ended up having a great time. I raced my azz off the whole time, pitted once on lap 10, and won by over 20 seconds, even after being brutally spun out and hit by ALL 5 AI on lap 3. That said, it seems that I could win with less power still, but I doubt that any of the lower-power cars handle well enough to keep up with the field. (Elise w/out oil change doesnt count). Can anyone prove me wrong? I'll keep posting combos when I find good ones...hopefully there will be a few listed when I get back from my enduro! ;)

Hi, Pulse, and welcome to GTP! Good to see another fan of tight racing action.

There is a thread on the Writeups board with a title like "Tight Races" or something like that.

Good luck!

[edit] Welcome also to Super-supra! [/edit]

That's not entirely true. It's possible to win the entire PD Cup - although only half the races so far - with the Honda Integra Type-R. Although a run-in example can turn in 205hp, by the end of the series you'll be in 189-land.

I'm absolutely positive I can win in the VX220/Speedster too.

No "banghead" necessary! I mostly posted that so you could see more information on a topic you're interested in... not trying to play "Newbie Cop".

Welcome to GTP and have fun!

go and make the amateur gran turismo world champion, or something like that, with some street cars. as they are race cars, it will be tough. you need AT LEAST 850 hp to win, because you need the brute power on the straights... in the curves they will eat you. it gets very funny!!! wins of 1 secoind or less, loses of the same. it rulz. and besides, you get to win the Ford F40!!

Cano

wellcome both of you :)

EDIT: oh, god. I just noticed I said forg F40... its GT40 >_<
haha, thats what happens when you post @ 2 am all sleepy and hungry. damn Im hungry.

At least 850 bhp for an Amateur Race??? :odd:

Hmm...I'd say over about 600, because they are all JGTC aren't they?

I don't know why, but i found that funny. :) Maybe because i'm too sleep deprived? I got up at 4:30am this morning to watch the Formula One. And that was after about four hours sleep. :/ And it's 10:59pm now.

Erm, I have to say i found the Vitz Cup (Pro) quite challenging, if you run the same pit strategy as them. Otherwise the last lap or two you just stride ahead after they pit.

close race

F1 Canadian Grand Prix? From Circuite de Gilles Villeneuve?

F1 >> ChampCar :D

God I hate Michael Schumacher and his damn Ferrari. Im a McLaren fan for life, and he managed to kill 2 birds with one stone in that race. He won the race and Coulthard's McLaren came in 2nd, and that win put him in first in the seasons standings with Kimi Raikonnen from McLaren in 2nd. 2nd place is the first loser, remember that McLaren, and now go win. Anyways just thought since we were on the subject that i could vent some frustration.

Interesting that you should choose the ass-end of of a Ferrari 575 Maranello as your avatar then... :D

I'm behind Toyota (Cristiano Da Matta & Olivier Panis), Justin Wilson (go Sheffield, go :D), Mark Webber and Jenson Button this year.

Go Webber! Just a shame that damn "Jaguar reliability" seems to have disappeared in his car...

I'm cheering for Mark Webber, Jos Verstappen, Justin Wilson and the other Jag driver plus Jordan. :)

But lets get this back on topic guys. :)

Yes let's.

I just ran a Vauxhall VX220 (aka Opel Speedster) with 144hp in a race in the PD Cup and won by over 30 seconds (33.8 in fact) from the second placed NSX.

How's THAT for low horsepower? :D

Next try - the Toyota MR-S S-edition... 128hp was it? :D

I like it! Thanks I needed some inspiration. I just raced my 336hp Spoon Civic in the Seattle enduro thinking it would be a challenge. C'mon at least the Z06 should have stayed on the lead lap! :irked:

144? But I don't think you would've beaten the Z Concept...;)

Funny you should mention that. I finished roughly 30s ahead of my Integra Type-R time. THAT time was a winning time in it's race, and the car which finished in second by 10s was... you guessed it... The bronzed Nissan Z Concept...

However, I've found that slaughtering the AI is very, very easy on that particular race, hence why I chose it for this test. But I think the VX220 would live through the series. 144hp but only 850kg...

Ok, why the hell do you have a Ferrari avatar. And this is the standings after Micheal: Ralf was second, Montoya third, Alonso fourth, Barichello fifth, Raikkonen sixth, Webber seventh and Panis eigth. Coulthard did not even finish the damn race. Some McLaren fan you are :P

Wow...so I guess eventually you'll be doing this series in the Mini Cooper 1.3i next?
