Close racing with AI

I know its not GT4, but GT3, but I only got around to writing this up recently.
Spooning away 2hrs in Rome
It's a taste of things to come....
I'll be doing similar things for the GT4 enduros when I hit 25%, but since I'm trying to keep all races close, its taking me a while to find the right cars for the right races!
There's also a couple of Why I Hate AI write-ups in the GT3 Writeups thread that I wrote about close finishes in the AI's favour, one based in Rome and the other at Trial Mountain.

See you close racing addicts around here again soon....

One of the first times I ran the Speedster series I wound up in the closest possible race, a tie for first. .000 time difference. I got the win but I didn't remember look to see if the other car also was awarded a win. To top it off I hit the finish line sideways! Needless to say there was a "bit" of blocking going on at the time causing both of us to be a little off-line... :)

3. You are completely annihilated (Even if you think you have a suitable car for the race) by the 1st place car which smashes your laptimes every lap making it impossible to get anywhere near them. (these are just plain frustrating races which I tend to exit whilst abusing my DS2 and swearing at the bit of black plastic and silicone I somehow get so worked up about??).

I hate those races. I did the Classic Car Championship in the Pro Hall with a fully tuned AC 427, with my only real competetion being another AC 427... and the bastard beat me by two turns at Monaco, even though he had way fewer horses than me. That'll teach me to forget to do qualifying.

:dunce: Can't believe I never made the association between OG & UB57! It's you isn't it Bob?!!!! Yep, just confirmed it with a search on your old posts! Good job I'm not this slow on GT4! Thought you'd departed GTP for good after the downtime debacle? Welcome back!
Like the sound of the race you mentioned. Will give it a go later.... trying to beat Spitfire Cup in a bone stock, no oil change Spitfire on N2 (Com) tyres at the moment, and its a beast, especially because of the rolling starts. El Capitan wasn't too much trouble and SSR5 Clubman was done on 4th or 5th attempt.
Motegi is a bugger & Seoul I don't think I'll get close, I'm struggling on N3 tyres in that one! Autumn Ring may be possible but the N2s are just giving away a little too much at the moment, oversteer & slide just once in the 4 laps and you can forget about winning!

Hey guys,

Quick question - does anyone have any idea how to win the Opel Speedster Trophy? I have a feeling that those cars are definitely not stock (they're still out-cornering me and too fast in the straight, and i've got medium racing tyres and stage 3 turbo on my speedster turbo).

I'm sure i'm not the best driver out there, but by rights they shouldn't be carving me up so well.

Any input would be most appreciated.

Thanks lads.

...those cars are definitely not stock (they're still out-cornering me and too fast in the straight, and i've got medium racing tyres and stage 3 turbo on my speedster turbo)...

The AI Speedsters are completely maxed out. Notice how you always get 200 points, no matter how much you do to your car? They're definitely on R5 supersoft tires. I could not win a single event with R3 tires. I had to use R4, and even went to R5 for one race.

I've seen it opined that the non-turbo Speedster may be faster for us. That's what I used, with max NA power on most of the events, but not all. I bought every option you can get for my Speedster, including all the lightening options and the Increase Rididity option. The only thing I didn't add was a wing.

I also tweaked the suspension:

SR 7.7 / 8.5
RH 90 / 95
SB 5 / 7
SR 6 / 7
C 2.5 / 1.5
T 0 / 0
St 4 / 4

Brake Balance 2 / 4
ASM 0 / 0
TCS 3
LSD 7 / 25 / 17

EDIT: Forgot to mention the Tranny Trick: Final drive to 5.500, Autoset to 25, then to 1 and leave it, then adjust the final for each track.

The LSD settings made a big difference.

Even with all of the above, its still a battle. To me this is one of the best events in the game. Now that I've got my Calibra, I'll come back to the Speedster race to see how much I can de-tune my car and still win.

on the topic of the speedster its a beast the first 4 laps of the nurg 4 hour omfg it was ahead of me by like 50 seconds but then it started driving like crap because of bad tires, also the ASl garaiya(?) is a monster in that race too.

I'm trying to get a close race for the 24hr Nurburgring enduro...

I wanted to use the M3 GTR (6 A-Spec points) but was 44 seconds up after lap 1, so switched to the Wedsport Celica (49 A-Spec points), but that too is too quick. I'm currently experimenting with a road going Honda S2000, and can get it up to ~180 A-Spec points, but am lagging behind somewhat... I reckon that the balance is at around 130 A-Spec points, where it's possible to keep up with the pace... anything higher than that is very hard...

Does anyone have any good car/set-up combos that are realistically possible to make a real race out of this??

Ta,
TM

Not sure about the 24 hr race, but if you guys want a quick fix, then try the M3 GTR Race car in arcade @ La Sarthe, or the Nurb, and de tune it to full weight allowed, and minimum horsepower.
The nurb is possible within a few turns if the viper doesnt turn up in the line up, but the La Sarthe track has some serious straights where the AI pull out a lead.

Do a 3 lapper to get your juices going!!

I forgot to add that you should choose super soft tyres, and have the AI set to 10 (fast).

But now i remembered to add it, so i have.

The most enjoyable, and difficult races I have had so far occurred during my re-run through the Real Circuit Tours in the Extreme Hall. I had previously won all of these races using some car that I don’t remember, and due to the changing lineups, I had averaged about 7 A-Spec points per race. I was determined to win all of these at 200 A-Spec points each, and although it took me some time, I was finally able to accomplish this by using three different cars:

Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car 1998 (most difficult for me)
NISSAN Fairlady Z Concept LM Race Car '02 (also quite difficult for me)
NISSAN GT-R Concept LM Race Car '02 (easiest of the three)

Resets of the PS2 usually resulted in a competition against a base field that was led by the Nissan R92CP Race Car 1992 and the Sauber Mercedes C 9 Race Car 1989. None of the three cars that I used could keep up with these cars, but if I drove well enough until they made their "mandatory" pit stop, I was able to win all of the races. The only exception was at the Nurburgring, where these cars didn’t pit after the first of two laps, and they were on basically useless tires for the last half of the second lap. This was the only easy 200 A-Spec point race in this series, at least for me.
