Certainly no offense taken here Moglet. I tend to agree with you on all points and was quite surprised by the very positive reactions my entry was getting as I felt it was a little flat somehow and you've summed it up nicely. Are we all seeing the same RUF photo here? No offence intended to Nato but the background is too in-focus and distracts from the car, the lampost stands out more than the vehicle, and the colour balance between the car and the green background looks awkward. The fence also leads my eye straight off the image and nowhere near the car in the foreground. Positioning the car exiting the frame also looks a bit odd to me, that rarely looks good unless you're focusing on the rear end of the car!
But maybe it's just me. SMFan's entry is much more up my street! Perfect lighting, location, colour balance and composition. The rule of thirds has been carefully considered, the colour of the vehicle works as it contrasts against the light background and the depth of field blurs the background just enough to make it less distracting without taking away any idea of where it was taken. It's nice to see the treeline leading my eye across the image to the vehicle too. 👍
That said, I don't think it is not all that bad either.
I thank you for your candid summary of my shot, considering we are currently participating in the tournament I need to take stock of all these variables and make sure I get it right if I do get to progress to the next round. I would be up against rpanico so will definitely need to bring my A++ game.
