It's a pretty open theme. Take a shot showcasing or emphasising shadows, be it on the road, car or whatever you imagine. I'd like to see creative or interesting use of shadows.

To be honest I would've chosen others over my own..a pleasant surprise ..the fact that I made it is strangely bittersweet.. Great shots overall by everyone ..even the ones not in the poll

Well I felt you put up a very nice shot. What it lacked in relation to the theme it made up for in other areas.


I really struggled to get it down to 15, I had over 20 I thought were worthy of poll. In the end it was little things that proved the difference. And the reasons were varied also.

Yes, yes you may...

Well I thought your shot was not too bad actually. The mains reasons it didn't grab me enough was the central compostion, it's comes off a little dull. The shadows featured are quite good, mainly the compo let it down for me. The vibrancy of the car colour is eye catching and the clarity is good but I also felt like it needed more 2.0 (edit work) with its toning and colouring to give the image more depth.

It just seems a little undercooked to me. If that makes sense.

With yours it was similar things in a way. Although the car is in shadow and the composition is decent, overall it lacked pop. It lacked some depth of colour and some bolder shadow/light play on the focal point which is the car. Because of this and the shadows don't really make a bold statement on the car itself which makes the image lack a dynamic contrast.

Plus this tunnel was used by a few others and I felt it wasn't utilized best for the theme. And maybe could have used a bit more toning work. Having said that it isn't a bad shot. But with so many great ones it wasn't quite up there.

Gotta remember though personal taste always plays a part.

I feel it was too "burred" at the front and rear, with the center at the point of focus. I personally thought it would've made it. It seemed "creative" enough. Anyway, no hard feelings, I'm just glad I could contest against some of the best talent in there.

It certianly had creative merit and it almost past muster because of it. 👍 It was little subtle things that put me off when seeing larger. The focus was a bit of a factor but not that much.

Great poll GPR. I imagine you had a big headache making the decisions... To many great entries for just 15 positions.

Congrats everyone that make into the poll AND everyone that didn't. Everyone spent more or less time editing a shot (or more) and deserve the same motivation.

edit: I personaly found Primus Ottus and Lee great entries. But then again, personal taste have always an important role.

Ok no worries, glad you liked it anyway and that you noticed the gradient effect, it wasn't my original intention but i thought it added something kinda original. Perhaps the car just needed to be painted in a navy or dark red instead of black.

Sure. The main thing that I found not so good was the light blowout at the top. It felt really harsh and almost looks like a nuclear explosion.

Minor things, I thought the composition was a little plain and the warm toning felt a bit overdone.

But the shadow of the car you've captured is probably the best feature of the shot. It's quite prominent and quite a good use of the theme. It was just the other aspects that let it down a little.
