Well from the few 'judging; experiences I've had I can safely say I understand where you're coming from Jacob and I hope that after the way you put over your frustrations that others will do too.

One thing I have noticed of late ..and its something I'm not a real fan of... is the influx of rejected shots being reposted within 5 mins of a poll going up asking for feedback. I'm not saying its a bad thing to do that but so soon that the "paint is still wet" so to speak. In the early days this wasn't the case ... but that said I do understand if people are looking to get a 2nd opinion from other users, but let everyone catch their breath and enjoy these polls first and foremost.

I've missed many more polls than I make but in the year or so of trying I've only asked for C&C once or twice ( a day or so after the poll ) and maybe a couple of PM's to the judge in person. I always "look" at the poll first carefully and soon realise my shot isnt worthy to be up there .... end of.

Please don't mis-understand my post as I do believe all feedback is good as long as its conducted in friendly way 👍

Speech over.... everyone please have some FUN :dopey:

May I just add a little to this? :indiff:

This.
Your shot may be good, yes.
It may fit the theme oh so well, but ultimately, it's the judge's choices that get through.
Even if you think you deserve that spot up there, look at the other entries and compare- is yours really better?
Doesn't matter if you got an artistic background, or take art lessons and whatnot. If your shot isn't up there, you're not good enough.
If you didn't make the poll, suck it up and try harder for next week's poll.

And somehow, just somehow, it's as if 2012 is the year for GT5 photographers.
The quality of photos are just amazing these days, so don't be discouraged if you don't make the poll.

The attitude of some people these days...

I think we all need to remember that these competitions are all a bit of fun - it's not like there's prize money up for grabs. It seems like people are taking them a little too seriously. If you don't make this weeks poll, there's always next week or the week after or the week after and so on.

Considering these competitions are a "winner takes all" style, I don't think the judging is that bad that a potential winning photo isn't selected in the poll.

My $0.02 :)

While I'm here, any feedback on my photo? It made the poll - it's the Black Citroen GT at Kyoto. I thought it fitted the theme quite well but I haven't received a vote

This poll is bar far and away the best I have seen on GTP to date. Truly outstanding work from all entries, no one should be upset about not making the poll. A1 photos all of them. So good I can't even choose my favourite :/

I see myself, as a newbie to competitions at GTP (the last week is only my fourth), fitting to what you said over feedback, or let me share my view on what you said...some, as quoted by another maestro, would want feedback ASAP, so they posted it early to hope for an early response from the maestros.

I agree some (and myself inclusive) will need to take a look at how its been done to upkeep the friendly atmosphere which brought me into GTP.

From what I see, it fits, but there are two major issues:

1) The position of the car relative to the picture. There is too much unrelated scenery of Kyoto

2) It seems that the F number for your pic is too small, so it blurred out what you are trying to reflect as well as the rear of the GT.

It's actually really good, apart from the fact that the reflections might just be a little bit messy. If the pictures of the Aventador (which I voted), Beetle or SLS weren't there, I'd have probably voted for you.

Therein lies the problem. I think this week there's just so many good photos, they took away the votes that would've gone to you.

Been there done that.. It's the gutted feeling I get when I think I've a really god job. I do ask for feedback (almost all the time.. oops!) albeit not the first in line, it is usually out of frustration or trying not to go down without a fight.

I've actually took a few weeks away from from the photomode comps and watched some action to finally understand what the judges were on about. From experience, when I entered competitions, I only looked at my entry and became obsessed with the idea of winning one of these damn things. (Wasn't very fun..)

Still.. one thing never changed. I still don't know where some of you photomasters and photogods gets their inspirations and ideas from.. :(

i just want to know if it was a bad shot or if it just wasn't good enough

👍 I didnt mean to go on like that tbh, I was just venting a little ( or maybe a little too much lol ) and relating to the tough job ...and from what I can see is it getting even tougher as the bar raises .... that the Judge has on his shoulders every week.
"Prerogative" is the key word and thats been well and truly earnt by each winner so thats ultimately what I respect.

Feedback and C.C. is all good when its conducted in the spirit depicted in these comps :)

Not many votes but more than I expected, really happy to have made the poll seeing as mine was quite different (and risky :scared:) to most. (Mitsu badge)

I really love that Beetle :drool:

oh yeah it was the mitsubishi badge. it earned its place in the poll anyway.

its good that you did vent...otherwise we have no clue of what is actually happening behind the scenes.

I'll just mention that you were going to get cut until last minute, when I picked yours over ZEROX's. It really were a lot of swaps during the last 5 minutes before I sent it.

Thanks CCShaft7 for loving the Beetle. Even I am loosing this time I really enjoy my shot. I am having fun in this forum even I don't make the poll or win every week :)

Thanks :gtpflag: for providing us a place to post great photos 👍

...
Some complain our polls look exactly the same every week. There is accepted convention as to basic photography standards. Rule of thirds, balance, sight lines, symmetry, depth of field, framing to name a few. 9 times out of 10 these photographers who complain so badly have missed the ball on half of them.

...

OK, the rule of thirds annoys me to no end. Not the rule per se, but when anything not following it is treated as a crime against art.
