I believe Mode 1 is all about horizontal panning, which is why a lot of other situations come out blurry (?)

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding you here. But the Celica is pretty much in focus and the background is blurred. That looks like a typical mode 2 and 3 shot. But the car is a little unfocused, so I think it looks like mode 2. But I may be mistaken here. If so, excuse me.

I know what you mean Fishy. As I understand it, Mode 1 is where the the photographer/camera is static and follows the subject (e.g. the car). So in the case of the Celica, it would be driving past the photographer, who in turn pans the camera to follow it
