"Shoot whatever you like, the only catch..... use the Miniature filter. "

Apologies for the lateness of this poll. Aragam has computer problems and had only just been able to borrow a laptop and send me the poll entries.

Do excuse me for saying this, but wasn't the miniature filter designed to make things look, ahem, miniature? According to the "Photomode Guide" in this forum, it was intended to make the contents of the picture look like a model, rather than a generic blur. In my opinion, none of the poll pictures achieve that.

I think thats what it was meant to do when PD created it but it doesn't exactly work, (there was a photoshop comp a few weeks back that pulled some pretty good entries but i don't think 1 of them featured the filter) most people tend to avoid it anyway because it rarely allows for quality photos. As for what you've shot, well done, its difficult to get that effect from photos on here. Its just perhaps not been what aragam was thinking of when he came up with the theme.

Thanks! It took me quite some time to get that shot, and I liked it so much it is now my PS3 backround.

It overall is a good picture, but as I said before I don't really think that is hoe (IMO) the miniature filter is supposed to be used.

This is a good example of how the miniature filter isn't good (for most things). The bottom of the car is blurred which ruins the picture. Take a look at the poll entries, and notice how the miniature filter has a horizontal strip in the middle where it shows everything clearly and everything above and below it blurry? You should place your car there when using this filter. On the other hand though good composition 👍

The problem with using this filter with a normal shot is that is blurs the top and bottom thirds of the image. I have seen it work with shots that have a lot of motion, such as the Mark IV and P4 above, but using a normal composition like gordongt did tends to not work because you get that very obvious barrier between what is blurred and what is not.

As cph mentioned the previous comp, I believe it was ZEROX that had a shot of an XJ13 at Kyoto that looked excellent and I've seen many of those long distance, high angle shots that produce good results. I also seem to remember a shot of a VW bus taken at Rome that was well done.

My point being, the way the filter works limits what you can do with it and it takes some effort to get an outstanding shot. Most just seem to end up as "okay". My two cents.
