I'm new and haven't entered a photo comp yet but I'm planning on it soon. Hopefully they don't shun us newbies. This photo is amazing though, and may even have got my vote had they posted it.

Sometimes I wonder how you guys are able to get these pics without editing.. O.o
My pictures always look like .. ****.

When taking your shots - play around with the exposure and focus levels. You'll be amazed at the results.

:)

Yes! Made the poll!!
My not-making-the-poll streak finally came to an end ><

Thanks for the votes so far :O

can i have some feedback? thanks

Can't comment on the judge's thought process, but I love the composition of this. But to me the colours look washed out. Maybe if the exposure had been turned down a tad?

Any comments for mine please?

Feedback please?

Again, can't speak for the judge, but I would guess that the reason is that the point of this compo was primarily to show of the new track, yet your photo only shows some nondescript tarmac that could be anywhere.

Just a suggestion.

That's a good point Dave.

Yeah, I was thinking that when I first took it. But if anyone had questioned me, I can send them the original, as I still have it on GT5.

Thanks mate!

Having looked at the poll entries again, my theory above is blown out of the water - there's several random tarmac shots that did get through...

In fact, I'm confused and a little put off by this poll selection. I'm not especially concerned that mine didn't get in - mine wasn't a particularly strong shot. But I'm surprised at some that did.

Of course the poll choices are entirely subjective and by definition can't be absolutely right or wrong, but I'd be interested to hear some of the judge's thought processes for his/her choices.

The theme was "Simply take your favorite car around "Special stage route X" and find your best spot for a nice shot." Take Photos 1 and 16 (the V12 Aston and the LFA/Aventador race). Were it not for the theme I would struggle to identify this as Route X. Does this therefore not match the theme? The best spot is a bit of blank tarmac?

Many of the others in the Poll are, in my opinion, of average quality, whereas some stunners were submitted but didn't get through: f1_stig's was clever and fun; Badger-X's was very pleasing and shows the real beauty of this sweeping track; the lighting was gorgeous in jonjwlee's Enzo shot; Sprags' beemer was beautifully composed and I loved the warm colours.

That said, some excellent pics got through too. I struggled to place my vote between the beautifully lit beatle, wonderfully detailed XJR9 shot and the brave Viper image.

Again, I know it's subjective and therefore my opinion matters not, but I wonder if it would be worthwhile if, in future, beside each poll entry the judge put a few words to justify his choice, e.g "brave and interesting shot; love the theme of white lines and the strong use of perspective" (e.g. for the Viper in shot 24).

I mean this post constructively and I hope people will appreciate that no offence is meant to anyone, judge or entrants. I also hope that this can be discussed without descending into a flame war. Part of the beauty of the Photomode is that we all develop as photographers.

I'm not the judge, but that's a really nice shot McZachen. I like the detail in the Lexus, nice focus. Depth of field and realism are good, too. Composition is nice, but perhaps the stuff in the top-right distracts from the car. Without the clutter, the eye would most likely be pulled into the end of the road, giving the car a greater sense of movement/speed. Additionally, there are other parts of the test track that are a little more interesting, such as the stretch with the radar dishes or bridges. Lastly, although I really like the black color of the Lexus, especially how it is glossy in contrast to the road, the picture does seem a little washed out. Maybe instead of a 1.0 aperture, you could have used a 1.4 or 2.0, to give the road a little more substance down the stretch, without sacrificing the nice blur.

looks like the photo with the XJR-9 is going to win

I'm surprised i made the poll. I'm even more surprised I'm winning (at the moment).

Both winning pictures with 17 votes each have an XJR-9.
Which one is yours?

No, new members aren't neglected here.
Take an example, at1503, which is the winner of PMC Week 60, is actually a newcomer to this competition.
The reason that members don't get into the poll is usually because they don't have the experience.
Personally, I think your entry is great. 👍
But the decision goes to the judge...

Um.. No, they're not. When I first joined, my first 2.0 Entry got into the poll and got quite a bit of votes. All it is is the judge's preference. It's a great shot imo.

Thanks guys for the clarification :)

I'll do my best and hope the judges approve next time, Thanks again.

Im happy to have finally made poll but i still have 0 votes, can you guys tell me how my picture could be improved? (Its the chevelle in the tunnel)

its mostly one color. it is also hard to make out the car in it, you can only see the highlights of it. if you took the picture on the other side of the car, with no shadow, it might be better. it will show more detail and the car wouldn't blend in with the shadow.
f1_stig- Great shot 👍

thanks, you too. not many black and white photos out there

Using a premium car allows for greater focal diversity and a higher resolution but good technique and the right location can disguise a lower resolution standard to appear fabulous. Improve by practice, take lots of shots, look through past comps and the galleries to give you image inspiration, then try to duplicate them and use those lessons to create your own similar images with your car and location choices. The more you do the better you get, keep trying new ideas and own your style, ask yourself your question above and you need not to be told how to improve.

I still enjoy seeing standards in the comps and weight them accordingly.
Chevelle 👍 First poll 👍

You know, I just realized something, my car that I picked (the beetle) is by far the slowest and least agressive-looking car out of all the poll choices  It's just a happy car :D lol

And yet it still managed to get 11 votes, which is more than the Red Bull and the Furai

It appears that new members are neglected here :)
Because it is difficult to understand why my photo didn't even make it to the poll

Don't flatter yourself. Your picture is very good, but obviously the Judges thought the other entries were better.

I voted for the one with the three Lamborghinis side-by-side. ()
p.s That photo would be an EPIC win, if it was three different Lamborghinis. (Just a Thought)

Thanks for the feedback guys, for some strange reason i prefer standard cars, i have a prejudice towards premiums lol, probably because theyre not as exclusive or maybe im just cheap lol
