Something struck me today. If a thread is closed, then why is it not deleted? Why close a thread for let's say, spamming, then what is the point of leaving it up on the forums? Every member will be able to still view the thread.

Many closed threads are deleted. It prevents a thread from running further off course, while still allowing the content in it to be part of the forums. It also allows the person who created the thread to know and understand what has happened to their thread.

Wow, already an alter ego...;)

Attila is what he was supposed to register, but for some reason he typed Belda, now he has registered again under the name he intended to use...

if you dlete a thread, than won't that kill your post count?
Yes and no. When a thread is moved to the Recycle Bin, the posts are not subtracted from your post count (because of a bug). However, when the threads are deleted from the Recycle Bin, your posts in them are subtracted from your total count.

Apologies for bringing back this thread but the title does cover exactly my question so I see no reason to start a new thread.

Most closed/locked threads end with a statement from one of the moderators, which lists why it is closed. 👍 The thread listed below is closed without a reason given. I assume it was because the answer I gave was precisely to the point and therefore no other answers were needed.

Is it 'unwritten' policy for Moderators to always close with a 'reason' given in the last post or do you sometimes close without further ado ??

My assumption for the moment is that it was actually closed by a moderator, but of course it may very well have been the originator of the thread.

I doubt the creator closed it. He/she isn't premium. It looks like you answered the question, so i guess a mod closed it for that reason.
