It certainly wasn't - GT2 has purchasable traction control and stability control upgrades, GT3 onwards have them available without a purchase.
Project CARS is the only series I know of that does 'realistic assists', where the default and fastest assist setup is whatever the car has stock, including the way to shift. Assetto Corsa may include something similar now though too, but I'm not sure.
