Hey all,

After a while of fruitless searching, here and elsewhere, I figured I just better ask - what use does the clutch have in this game? Is it usable in normal driving and does it work exactly like a true manual's clutch? Basically, is it any good?

Ah well could be better.... The clutch is not analog and pressing it while changing the gear has no effect... The only purpose is drifting.... You know the corner is ending soon and your car is understeering, hit the clutch and you might stay on track....

While not perfect it is a step in the right direction... Maybe Enthusia 2 features a real clutch....

So you're telling me though there is a clutch, it's completely useless for upshifting? Are there any PS2 games with a real clutch? Christ.

How would you operate a clutch with a DS2 controller? Only game I know that has a real clutch simulation is Viper Racing for PC.

Yeah that's sad... I mean would be no problem with the analog buttons... perhaps next time (Enthusia 2)

Live For Speed has great clutch simulation :)

Anyway GT_Fan2005, Shift lock is a technique used to get into the drift.

Example, you go in 3rd gear into the corner, you press the clutch, change gear down(clutch still on), turn into the corner and let off the clutch. All needs to be done with right timing ofcourse. It feels similar to handbrake technique but feels safer and smoother. The technique also works in pc simulation called Live For Speed :)

you just brought my good old memories back........

viper racing and LFS are the 2 best racing games on PC that i have ever played......

now my GT4 is covered with dust since i've got Enthusia........

you lose the tail much more easily with Enthusia even with TSC and ECS on....which is not the case in GT4.......
GT4 is way too grippy when those 2 electronic systems are on.......

however.....when you turn both systems off.......high power cars are uncontrollable in both game......

that's what i think about the 2 games.......hope i didn't say foolish stuff......

Enthusia is a blast for drifting. Drifting the dragon range course or whatever its called is THE most fun ive had drifting in a game, ever.

As for GT4, the cars have unrealistically high levels of grip, and that rips the balls off drifting fun. Neither games' high powered cars are impossible to control or even close to that, you just have to have an understanding of the physics taking place and not push the car past these limits. In fact, i find the less powerfullcars with crappy suspension, like the corvette, to be much harder to control.

You basically need a dfp or some wheel for this game though to enjoy it thouroughly. Unlike gt4 which is very playable with a dual shock 2, this game requires even more precise throttle and steering control, and they blew it when it came to calibrating the ds2 buttons to give you proper range of control for throttle and brake. I cannot believe they messed that up so badly, that had to take a massive chunk out of sales.

it's to blip the throttle on gearchanges, especially when shifting down in a corner from (for example) 3rd to 2nd so you accelerate more quickly out of a corner.

Yes, there are and it is nearly impossible to use. TOCA 2 has a Manual with Clutch option and it's incredibly difficult. Especially with the wheel trying to find the button in mid turn. All I can say is GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrCHHHHHHHink (grind the teeth off that gear why don't cha?) :ouch: And you better know how to heel-toe it. Or is that thumb-toe it??

xsquizet-drifte
so how would you say the drifting in this game racks up to gt4 and 3, if your a drift nut would you get it

All I can say is that this is the MOST REALISTIC DRIFT GAME I EVER PLAYED. Seriously, I drift in real life and there is almost no difference between the 2. I bought it just because the drifting is so realistic and fun. BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DFP!!

Wow, good to hear. I'm hoping that my S15 practice in this game will pay off later some time in real-life when I actually get one. I drift a stock S15 in the game and have finally secured my DFP to a strong base.

What car do you drift in real life that you're comparing to the game?

A '86 Nissan 300zx 2 seater N/A with LSD, stock power, stock suspension, wieght reduction of 80lbs, and used tires. I drifted it w/o an LSD for a while and believe me, this game is incredibly accurate in recreating open diff AND LSD effect. The cars seem to react a little bit to slow to wieght transfer (ie. fient drift), but other than that, this game is physically perfect.
