If you're using a wheel, do you find cockpit view is a bit, well.... naff?

The way I'm set up, the real steering wheel overlaps the bottom of the TV view, and it feels right in bumper cam.

However, in cockpit view you can see two pairs of hands and two steering wheels and I find it a bit off putting, especially as the video hands have a slight lag on the real hands.

Do you think it would have been better to just put the dashboard, and leave the steering wheel out?

I don't find it off, I don't notice anything weird when I use my wheel. And taking the steering wheel out would look too corny. It's really fine the way it is. :)

I use bumper cam but when I do use cockpit view I don't notice either set of hands or wheels, just focused on the road.

I use a wheel and cockpit view, and never had any problems with the two wheels and sets of hands. I'm too busy paying attention to how I'm driving and not to my scenery.

The secret is to make sure your wheel and your sitting position is close enough that you end not noticing the hands/steering wheel on the screen. I setup my wheel/housing tight in front of the screen. And I'm sitting less than 2 feet away.

Another option is to use the zoomed FOV. Similar to this video:

Either way what'll happen is that your POV is that of the road and less on what's underneath.

I like seeing the wheel in the cockpit, it's part of the buzz of knowing what car I'm in. Many modern cars have unique wheels, and race cars have vital information on the wheels too. But the option to disable the wheel should be in for those that don't like seeing the wheel.

Still it's not as bad as having a wheel turning with No HANDS on it......ahhhh ghost driver!! I've NEVER understood that.

Now that looks great....! Unfortunately I have to sit quite some distance from the TV!

Yeah, I like to position my wheel in coordination of the wheel on the screen. I love cockpit views, there's only two problems with it:

1.) The Bugatti Veyron is standard, so not cockpit view.
2.) I wish you could look up and down. It might be much use, but I'd like to see the whole interior.

I like the cockpit view very much, in fact it's the main reason I only use premium cars.

+1. I almost only use premiums, too. Always feel bad when i have to use a standard car because of missing cockpit view :)

Bumper cam definitely has a broader view but I dislike the invisible areas of my car and trying to guess where I will hit, which kinda sucks since I use Cockpit and it really limits my garage since I have an understood hatred for standards.

I find generally that the outside edges of the tachs are the quarter panels of the car. Doesn't work for all cars but it's a good starting point.

^^Good point, it's just the invisible aspect that bothers me. I will try this out, never thought to use them as a reference, thanks.

I am a bit of a premium snob because of the cockpit view. It is hands down my preference and I do use a wheel.

I love cockpit view, it makes me feel as if I'm in the car (well, that's what cockpit view is for :P), although I do switch to bumper view if I fall behind in a race.

I use a wheel as well.

It's all I use..All Gold with cockpit view for me.. Aim high in steering(DMV Handbook)

Standards are for trading, in my opinion.

man you might go blind sooner in life lol. cool looking though.

That's actually a well documented myth. The distance makes no difference, it's the amount you spend staring at a TV/Monitor (without taking a break every 15 to 30 minutes) regardless of the distance that might affect your eyesight.

I used to be that way until about a week ago. After holding off for over 6 months (got the game @ xmas), I had to for the sole purpose of driving the Audi R8 LMS which is only available in standard. That opened up a whole can of fun :)

Once I turn the all the HUD off (which I also do in cockpit view) and use the bumper cam, the immersion factor is just as good if not better than cockpit view. There are just too many great cars in Standard to be a Premium snob.

I like to use cockpit view with it zoomed and HUD off. The only downside is that the rearview mirror on some cars are hard to use and the view out of some windshieds is blocked by A pillars and roofs. On the plus side most guages are visible and a few (Scud, McLaren F1, some super GT's) have gear indicaters. Not using some of the great standard cars because of no cockpit veiw is crazy.
