This option has many advantages. Such as when striving for best lap time on tight tracks. Especially when the competing cars have very different speed and handling characteristics, yet are capable of very similar lap times.

I would also really like to see this back in the game. They did add it in GT5 so I am thinking there is a good chance. Hopefully we will get it soon.

Lagging is an issue as mentioned above and this feature can also help eliminate the issues of the punters coming in to just try and knock people off the track. I would use it in any public lobby I open if it were there. Without it I just avoid opening a public lobby most of the time.

It is probable that the idiots will leave when they see that they can't smash people of the track, so it will raise the quality of the room.

Yep that is usually the case, I did a lot of this on Forza 2 and have had many people drive through me going the wrong way which is still a disruption but better than being smashed. They generally quit the race then and there and leave the lobby.

I liked the Forza implementation where all cars remained "solid", not "ghosts" until the distance between them became short. Then they would "ghost" to provide better visibility for the overtaking driver.

So for most of the race, the cars looked real.
