OK, I haven't gone crazy or anything but I have noticed that the colour (or lightness) of a car can affect my lap times. My recent example was during practice free runs in Arcade Mode for the current Corvette v R34 spot race at Deep Forest. At first I ran with the dark blue R34 and logged my times. Later I ran the silver R34 and consitently ran 1 - 1.5 secs faster per lap. I ran the blue car again and ran slower! The cars are obviously identical and I know the track well, therefore the difference must be me.

I believe the possibility is that the silver car has visually a better defined outline and therefore allows me to line the car up better for corners (Deep Forest being quite a dark track) giving me confidence and more speed.

I wonder if there's a psycholoical advantage in different car colours, or whether it's purely a visual gain?

Has anyone else found that certain colours run better for them, for whatever reason. :)

It's OK, you can answer... I'm not a mentalist!!

Man - You have got to be joking:haha:

I got to try that one out myself, but i SERIOUSLY doubt that there is any difference.

Maybe you should test the two versions of the makkinen Lancers. The one with the stripe should be the fastest.. :D

I would try this in bumper cam view before making any proclamations about car performance. I would agree that the lighter cars are easier to position in a dark race, but not by 1.5 seconds per lap

are there stickers on your white r34? Cuz', not many people know, but stickers make your car go faster!!

Get the Mine's version - it runs 400m in 3 seconds flat :D

this dates back to earlier GTs and even before.

i think the theories have to do with weight of paint.

and atom reflection and absorbancy: either dark paint collects more light atoms and increases vehicle weight, or light paint reflects more and increases drag, or neither.

weight is more likely.

i'll look for a link

Light and dark patches on a vehicle (or any object) can cause air currents over the surface, but I really don't think PD went to all that trouble - it's more likely to be operator error! :D

Arcade Mode Spot Race - can't use an oil change. I think it's just the car and the track - the silver R34 is easier to place in the shadows. :)

I completely understand what you're saying, and it actually makes sense to me. I spend a lot of time configuring my computer so that the kinds of light and color are easy on the eyes and there are fine defined lines helping me navigate my desktop.

What I find hard to believe is that you use the freaking bumper cam! (:

are you telling me then that you actually play in the out-of-body-experience view then?

I can only do that after a night on the pop, cos then I can't race for toffee anyway, so it makes no difference that the car sways all over the place like a suspension bridge in a hurricane :D

I think so too. It is easier to place a light car in a shadowed corner. But i does not make a 1.5sec difference. So

yeah on some of the tracks the shadows really screw up your sight. plus the dark colored cars kinda get lost in there.

i think PD should also give you the option of putting speed holes in your car to make it go faster for GT4 . haha!

I've always played with the bumper cam right back to pre Sega Rally days - it's just the way I play. I think it's 'cause I grew up on Pole Position on the Atari and Grand Prix on the Spectrum! :D hehe. I get that a lot from people though. You get the 'how can you play like that, you can't possibly go as fast?' and 'how can you find the apex with that view?'...

Then I beat them. 😈

Yellow of course. we all know yellow = power

Stickers, coffe can exhaust tips, stripes, aftermarket cheepskate hubcaps (chrome plate imitations preferred) fuzzy dice ot 8 balls. (the latter adding more power than a dice)

And the ultimate nirvana of a ricer : if you can afford them, widetread tyres, much wider than your car was designed for: like 225/40 ZR 17 tyres on a Civic 1.4 SI... Scrape your fenders, guzzle fuel, lower your top speed, strain, weaken and break your linkage, power steering hydraulic servo pump...

let me allow myself to say that the person who started this, that he is COLOR BLIND!! :D
second of all he IS NOT A PROFFESIONALL GT DRIVER
real drivers use first view, dash board view, inside camera, call it whatever you want, but you never use outside view!!
this is pathetic end of story, and young man don't try replying cause i'm reallyshaked up right now :D

Firstly, I do hope I'm not colour blind as I'm a graphic designer - perhaps I shouldn't have done all those Honda brochures in blue!!

Secondly, I didn't realise there were professional GT players - how much do you earn from it? What are the healthcare plans like, or are you making that up to impress your mates?

Thirdly, How else do real drivers drive without being in first person? I suppose you could be a back seat driver. :D

Finally, old man, I started playing and writing games in BASIC and HEX in 1981 when you were, mmm... 5 years old. If I choose to play a game a certain way that is not up to you. I'm open to advice and pointers from genuine players who could improve my gameplay not listen to pointless, ill-conceived rants you'd expect from a child.

What's pathetic? You tell me.

[images--->] Yeah..and real GT drivers drive with ASM and TCS on cuz else they can't handle their tuned truenos, and they drive in 2nd, cuz that's the way to go mannn!

Hang on, yeah... you're all right... I'm ****e!!! ;) :D hehehe.

Come on, let's see if we can get some kind of tenuous link to the Trueno in every thread... Hell I know I've tried. It'll mess up anyone's search on the forum. :D

Good start from rufrgt_sn00pie2001.
