So we are getting an apartment in the next month and have to decide on an ISP our choices are Comcast and Century Link. With Comcast we (I) can watch ESPN3 and the ALMS races I hope. So I have a question for those of you with Comcast how fast is it without that speed boost gimmick would their 12MBPS be good enough for online gaming? I can't find the steady state speed on their site at least. We'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
Hmm the Comcast is $45 a month for 12 down and the Century Link is $50 for 40 down 20 up..... but no ESPN3....

12 is good enough. But if your playing online you should ALWAYS consider upload speed. Now I dont have Comcast but I would think that they have 3 or 2 up so again that *should* be fine, but 20 up is sure a lot! Also you can watch Espn3 on your smartphone too.(in case you didnt know)

I've had Comcast in different areas around chicago and have pulled down about 20 everywhere. Wirelessly i can download 1-2 MB a second. I don't know about upload speed though. Unfortunately I game wirelessly cause the modem is two stories away right now. It's decent but seems to cut out randomly. Would suspect it isn't a Comcast thing though. I can't say I've ever had a problem when I had to deal with them either.

I had Comcast for a couple of years and it was awful, it went down all the time and the customer service sucked. I could go 5 or more days without the internet waiting for a tech to come out and decide he couldn't solve the problem...then Comcast wouldn't even credit my bill.

I have AT&T Uverse now and it's great, sure it isn't as fast as Comcast but in the three years we've had it, its gone down once. The tech even came out on a Sunday and fixed it for me.

^^ That's awful but sounds like the typical experience I have read about Comcast. But when I've delt with them, it was easy. They did send a tech that knew absolutely no english to set stuff up which was a bit unprofessional. But I remember specifically the internet going out. I called up and it was fixed an hour or two later and they still offered a partial refund unprovoked. It was like $2 and I could have cared less but the fact they offered without me asking was appreciated. This was maybe two years ago.

Joey is right, Comcast sucks and sucks bad. Its all I have in my area so its my only reliable internet option. When it works its great but that really day to day. Currently we are having issues of getting disconnected again so that means I am going to have to call one of the idiots out to the house again to not be able to solve the issue. I really hate Comcast. 🤬:irked:

It's easy to deal with Comcast problems if you contact their corporate employees which hang out on Twitter of all places. They answer right away when you contact them on Twitter, they will have a local service center employee call you at a time/date you tell them, and they will treat you like royalty. I always do it this way, I no longer call the service center.

Last time I had problems and used this contact method they sent over a supervisor and a tech guy, both knew exactly what they were doing and even set up my home network for me and everything (which Comcast is always a pain about not knowing about that junk because it isn't their product or specialty).

I dont use Twitter or Facebook or any of that stuff. But I do have some direct numbers that go right to the line techs and the line tech supervisors. Still not enjoyable to have to deal with Comcast.
