I’m concerned that I use to be able to pick a link from a particular thread comment from a post and the short cut would stay there, but lately when I pick a comment from the number in the upper right hand corner it shows the correct comment and then it goes flying down to the last post on the page. What the heck could be going on, isn’t a post number like an “anchor” to indicate a particular position on a particular web page. Whats with that ????

Here's an example, this should stay on coment #189 but then it flys down to the basement. I hope it works for you the same way it does for me because it does it every time I try it, I know a little bit about html and this doesn't make any sense to me.

Yup, does the same for me. It might help Jordan if you say what browser you're using. I'm using FF 3.6.10.

You have two numbers in your link. If you want to go to a specific post, make sure both numbers refer to that specific post.

For example this http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4034404#post4034404 links to your post in this thread.

That's right Famine, but what happens now (and I think this is what LeftyWright69 is saying) is that when you click the underlined number of a particular post (this one will be #4) you get the link to it, but said link, when you use it, points you first to the post, but then the page scrolls down to the bottom. It wasn't like this before, as far as I can recall (before, IIRC, the link to a post opened a window with that post alone).

Sorry if I'm not clear, keep in mind I'm not a native English speaker.

PS - Of course if we create the link like you did (making both numbers equal) it works. But how/where do you get that link without typing it yourself?

If you visit a thread now, you get such a link at in your address bar. Mouseover the post number you want to link to, note down that post's identifier and manually type it in place of the numbers in the address bar.

Visiting this thread gives me http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4034404#post4034404. Your post is 4034692. Replace the numbers from the URL with that and we get this.

I've had a problem, I'll use the button in the center in a mouse to scrool down, and when I use it to head up, it goes right back down. It goes up the second time but why?

Are you doing this on a link to a specific post, as the thread is loading?

The page is going to load to a specific point on the page, not the top, so when you try to scroll before the page has finished loading, upon finishing, it's going to jump back down.

Okay, thanks for the heads up SlipZtrEm.

The only way I can reproduce this is if your in a board, and you click the little post icon on the far right of a thread title, this links you directly to the last post and overrides the "link to post" feature because you are technically viewing a post not a thread.

I hope that makes sense.

If not just compare the difference in the URL to going to the last page and scrolling down to the last post, and the URL of going straight to the last post in a thread via the icon on the far right of the thread title in the board.

I understand the cause and effect aspect of manually hacking in the redundant post # of the reply, So the elephant in the room becomes “what good is having the little posting link in the upper right if you have to over ride the info?”

I don’t think I’m mistaken when I say that it was different before. Shouldn’t the code be correct in the posting reply link to make it function properly?

Isn’t this forum just software that is created by a company that sold it to Jordan? If I knew who made this Forumware that we use I’d go give um an ear full and make them explain their logic, I just think it’s bad code and this forum shouldn’t have to settle. :gtpflag:
