ok i must clear this up !

this race was not a traditional race it was more of a challenge of how many days it would take to drive around australia in a road legal car obeying all the posted speed limits. there were 2 cars with 3 drivers in each car and the cars were fitted with 180 litre fuel tanks and only stopped for fuel. for many years Aussies have been travelling around australia " goin round australia" usually taking a few months to do so allowing time to take in the amazing sight of this great country. then over the years our competitive nature turned it into a race of sorts with the current record being 6.5 days set by "motor magazine"

on the topic of commodore v monaro it basicly comes down to that a commodore ( 1978-present ) is a 4 door sedan and a Monaro ( 1968-1977 (68-71 first gen,71-77 second gen) and 2001-2005 3rd gen ) is a 2dr coupe version of the sedan, there were a few models of 4 door monaro being the HQ, HJ, HX and HZ ( 1971-1977) but these were special models.
the commodore is the successor to the Kingswood ( 1968-1980 (68-84 kingswood ute) ) and the monaro has followed the shape of the kingswood and commodore from 1968-77 then from 2001-05.

I'm agreeing with you sir

Each of Shazzas post made me groan of the stupidity

Thank you sir! 👍

I imagine PD would be professional enough to not list an unofficial event that as far as I've found has no evidence of its existence

You can interpret the word race a few different ways, I meant it as an unofficial race without disregarding the rules and laws of the road.

Also, as much as people like to believe it, you can't find everything on the Internet.

OT, but I really like those old Kingswoods - I think they look great. I did the year backpacking in Oz in the mid 90s and battered 70s Kingswoods and Falcons were weapons of choice for those who bought cars; some of them had been round the country several times. I expect there's not so many about now.

You take that back! I found my car keys on the Internet! :p hehe

The name "Commodore" is more a play on words. The Commodore is the flagship of Holden and flag ships of naval fleets have a familiar called a Commodore.

Don't know if that's absolutely true but it is how I always thought of it, I guess only the marketing team knows because they've never made it public to my knowledge

I could beat that holden by walking if it took 6 days to do 150km and with sleep and sight seeing 1500 sounds vaguely possible. But given it's a race 15,000 is the most logical (Added to the fact that it references a highway)

I believe Holden guys were inspired by the Opel Commodore. There was a tradition to call their cars after "ranks" in politics and military, like Kapitän=captain, Kadett=officer cadet, Senator=obviously senator.

I think if PD one day gets the licence from Holden and Ford Australia,The Holden Commodore SS should be a brand new VF as well as some HSV'S from the last 26 years.

Holden Torana XU-1, Ford Falcon GT-HO, Torana A9X, HQ Monaro, Falcon XA GT, XD S-pac, VE Commodore Clubsport, FPV GT R-spec.

Just to name a few
