Xbox??? Who is this Xbox??
Hi,
I was recently looking around the Ubuntu forums (Yes I use Linux and it owns) and I noticed that they have something REALLY special that we dont have. Community Cafe games. They're basically threads that are games. I think we should have some here because it would liven the whole place up.
Here's the link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=298

'Round these parts, we call it The Rumble Strip.

There is a reason for not having these. They are usually classed a spam and if we were to relax a certain part of the forum people might think that they can post like that all over the forum. You could make that part of the forum not count towards your post count but you still come back to the problem of people posting the same in other parts of the forum. It would probably produce too many bad habits and be an extra workload on our staff, I am against this.

I am not part of Ubuntu and dont know how it works but do they have as strict moderating as us and/or a lower standard of posting? We are a very different forum, we have strictish rules that stop it from being overrun like 4chan, I dont know how this would work. Lets wait till an administrator or moderator sees this, I am interested in what they have to say.

We have a long history open-ended threads here, and all of them have ended badly. Granted, "forum games" are somewhat different and can be fun - if there's something that you would like to get started (and you think people will be able to keep it on topic), please just put it in the Rumble Strip.

Thanks for the go ahead Jordan. I'll try one game and see how it goes. If it turns into disaster, I'll close it or you can.

As I am sure you can see, it isnt really working. It has turned into spam I guess, several people have already posted in it multiple times, one of which seems to be doing it for the post count.

What is that supposed to even mean? I assume you meant "If it works in the Ubuntu forums, it will work here." This isn't an Ubuntu forum anyway.

The way it's going it's obviously just repetitive spamming. It's quite obvious that everyone's spamming there to get the post count up.

To be honest I don't think it's going to turn out well.

I got hopes. If it works in the Ubuntu forums, I will work here.

:banghead: I have to emphasize what everyone has already said in this thread. This isn't the type of forum for threads like that. We try to carry on a high level of discourse, which does not apply to threads like yours. What's wrong with visiting another forum whose nature is different from GTPlanet's if you want to play "the ban game"?

Well it matters what you consider spam. also, I did this new thread Because I want to change the environment here. Whenever I go on here it feels strict. Everyone is scared of the rules and spam is considered almost everything that is silly. But silly is fun, which gives a happy mood to the forums.

Well it matters what you consider spam.

Yes it does, and it doesn't help for you that quite a few people agree with me and what I consider spam. Just because Jordan let you go ahead, he obviously wanted to 'test' this out and see how it will go. It hasn't gone off to a good start.

Agreed with Austin343 👍.

Ok then, I respect your opinion. I'm sure some less serious people will use the thread to have fun and enjoy the forums.

We do enjoy the forums just fine without some spam thread. It's obvious that you're just trying to get your post count up or something, if you like the game at Ubuntu forums, just play it there not here. There's a reason why there aren't too many of these types of threads, mostly because they've been tried and most have failed. Many other forums I frequent have these game places, and just about all of them have the post count disabled there because it gets spammed a lot.

Are you trying to insult me by saying I'm too serious? You're basically just saying everyone who agrees with me is too serious or something.

No, I don't care about my post count to be honest. I did when I was a n00b but now that I'm not a New Member I don't care. Also, I wanted to make the GTP environment happy and share the joy with everyone. I'm not insulting you, I'm comparing you with me. No offense but I think you are being a little pessimistic.

We already are, if we didnt have any fun or enjoy the forums why would we used them? Its not that it isnt fun or enjoyable, it is just not the cleanest way to have fun, it kind of looks messy and pointless in my opinion.

The GTP environment is happy and joyful, one of the many reasons people stay here is because of that. You make it sound like it is a sad and depressing place.

No offense but I think you are overlooking something that is already very obvious. That is the fact that the thread just isnt working and probably will never work, its just going to turn into a thread that people turn to when they need some more posts. You can tell this is the case when they instantly reply, they are camping the thread as such just for posts.

You know what Legendary, I get your point. On the Ubuntu forums, you only get post counts for posting in the support area. I think I'm gonna close the thread for the sake of fair post counting.

Of all of the "games" you could have chosen, you went with the ban game? :odd:

Personally, I'd have gone for our take on The Ongoing story of Tux as that could actually be an amusing read...

Christ it's about time you (NSN1) did get the point. However many times I said it you didn't want to agree with me. Why do I bother?

You just didn't want to agree with me personally? Whatever floats your fail boat.

Thank you, maybe you can try another game, one that actually makes you think before posting. Like TB said, maybe a story or something.

Whatever floats your fail boat.

The thread was silly but does not warrent all the bashing. Hell, it's a better read then 90% of the gt5 section. If something like that is so beneath gtp and it's members won't it just die on it's own?

Agreed. 👍

Still, the ban game is just a really boring game (IMO), there's plenty of other forum games one can play that are actually fun. ;) E.g. 'counting with pictures' (already there in a slightly different form), 'dilemma', 'I see a picture and think of ...' or 'answer a question with another question'.

Yes now that I don't see as spam because people would actually bother to take some effort to post. The ban game is just stupid as is just asking for spam. There's also that game where you write a story, where people say one sentence and it all adds on. Now that type of thread would be epic lolz and actually mean that people take some effort to post.

I was just thinking about this!!
