Fairly new here, but thought I'd share. Got PS2 and GT3 five weeks ago as part my "mid-life crisis". Definitely cheaper than a real car :) I know I don't have to tell you guys what a great game this is. Got to the end and only needed to win the GT Championship to complete the BL. Got to the 10th race with a two point lead and was leading on the third lap when I got cocky, spun out into the dirt and lost the race. How did I react? Let me put it this way, I had to go to Best Buy yesterday to buy a new controller. However, armed with my new controller and a new attitude (boy did I feel stupid), I cruised through the GT Championship last night. Instead of running one race right after another, I used two new approaches. I took a break after each race. And I ran a qualifier for each race. Wow; what a difference. Oh yeah, I used my Skyline for the series. What a great car. Now, I've got to pass the last test in IA, and it's on to the Amatuer League.

Hello and welcome to GTP! Congratulations on completing the Beginner League, but if you want to go any further in the game, it'll do you good to control that temper, because there will be PLENTY more "piss offs" in the future, particularly once you get to the Professional League. By the way, how are you doing License-wise? I know there were a few times I got mad at the game, but if you wreck a controller everytime you lose a race or blow an exam, you're going to have another sort of mid-life crisis to deal with, na,ely you'll have destroyed 20 or so PS2 controllers! :D

Welcome JB23....what I found was buying a wheel ( logiotech force feedback ) did wonders for my game ( take some getting used to )

Yeah, that's the last controller I'll do that to. It put things into perspective for me. As highly competitive as I am in most facets, it is just a game. I'm cool now. Actually, the original controller still works. Not having anything to compare to, I thought the steering pad was looser than it should be. Seems it's just fine. Well, I learned a lesson about temper, and I was going to need that second controller eventually for one on one racing. I've got my B, A, IB, and have only the 8th test on my IA to complete.

Lol  I practicly twisted my DS2 in half on the F1 championship, with a stock 94/H. I had to tighten the screws back up to stop the halfs from sliding around. (although it had alot of previous GT abuse)

 yes it just wants to make you throw the game out the window

 I know the feeling of the...crisis, i got hooked to this game... A little help to you, if you invest in 2 memory cards, things will be much easier later on in the game. As soon as you're ready to start the "Amateur league", if you have a fast enough car, compete in the "European Championship" "Series Race". Save the game after each win and if you win the first 4 races and you save the game on the memory card, skip/exit, the 5th race and after you collect the trophy and the $$$, you will aquire a bonus car. If the bonus car is the "Gillet", (funny looking red racing car) save the game. That car is worth 300.000cr if you sell it and then you can buy or upgrade a good car to use in other races. If the bonus car you aquire, is NOT the "Gillet", simply restart the game console and repeat the 5th race skip..etc... till you get that car. I hope you understood what i'm talking about. That is the easyest race with the best payout. You may do it over&over&over... till you get as many Gillets you want, and then sell them for ...ea$y credits. Also, you may wanna do the "Endurance" "super speed way", with the "gillet", it's easy, you can even run along the walls and win, without even a pit. At the end of the race, if you win, you will collect the trophy+200.000 cr. and hopefully, a "F090S" formula 1 race car!!!!!!!!or a Corvette CR5 race car...and with those you can win (just about)any race! BTW, good luck with the "Vitz, Cleo, Elise and F1 races", you're gonna need many....controllers!! hehehehe!! :dopey: 👍 and remember.... those cars are on...rails!! find yours!! :sly:

lol in the first competition I ever drove in GT3 I won a Gillet. I had no idea really what the prize cars were I just lucked into a Gillet. Don't sell it, use it, it's a great car. Can easily win any compeitions it can enter.

The elise race is easy! The computer cars are just soooo slow lol

The F1 race, I grant you, is hard to get used to. However, the races are long. I drove the first race and I was nowhere, falling half a lap behind initially. It is tempting to give up after 3 laps, because it feels impossible. But if you don't give up, because the races are so long, you end up learning a lot while in the race. By the end of the first race, I was 2-3 seconds a lap faster and came 4th. The rest of the series was easy to win because I had found my feet in the first race. The F1 is just a case of, as long as you make yourself drive a whole race distance and don't just quit, you will end up being so much faster than the computer cars.

I did use the "save trick" to get the Vertigo and the Camaro Race Car, neither of which I plan to sell. It's funny, but I was always hurting for credits while working on the Beginner's League, and now three series into the Amateur, I've somehow accumulated over 400K. I keep using my Skyline and it continues to kick ass, so I'll just keep saving.

congratz... have fun with amature.
haha, i don't think there were any needs to buy another controller just because you lost.
well, it gets fraustrating.. yes.

Welcome to the forum.
On your restart...(there will be many, trust me) Do the lisence tests first, then the Arcade mode. It will hone your skills for the races ahead.
If you haven't found it yet, do a search for Der Alta's Compendium. It will give you some ideas that will provide you with a pretty cool insight on the game. Plus it will be winnable but not entirely too easily.

I went on to arcade mode much much later in the game but your advice issound there Gil. It hones your driving skills before starting the "real game".

Another great thing about this game, and there are so many, is that there are so many different approaches the player can take in trying to tame the beast. Personally, I'm not one to sit down and "read the manual" so to speak. I want to jump right into the water and worry about the fact that I don't know how to swim later.

:dopey: What i was previously saying is.... that...you can do the "amateur european series" over and over ...ea$y.....and accumulate 10 or more Gillet'$ Vertigo'$... at 300.000cr each....? that'$ alow of....."buying power" 💡 👍 :sly:

By "read the manual" I meant I don't want to learn how to drive before entering races. I'll enter races and learn how to drive once I'm in competition.

I can't even imagine getting the Gold licenses. You guys must be freaks, and I mean that as a compliment. The S License seems completely intiimidating.

Haven't even started the S licences. I'm confident I can do them in about an hour or so. (fingers crossed).

Frankly I only got gold on a couple of licenses, and silver on just a handful more. The rest are all bronze.

I would recommend running through all the time trials in Arcade mode to pick up the Esperante GT-R thingy. It's hell on wheels for sure, and free is a hard price to beat. The experience from the time trials will give you an additional edge as you go in to Amature and Professional Leagues.

Unlocking all the race tracks in Arcade is much fun as well. Run them on Hard the first time through and you'll only have to beat them each once.

I agree with you, the time trials in Arcade mode is very interesting ( and most of all fun ) because with the gold licenses ( at least the easiest ones ) one has to be perfect on a portion of the track, while in arcade mode, one has to drive perfectly during one complete lap

Well, there are also some licenses where you have to be perfect the whole lap. But the time trials are all like that. And require you to be at the top, rather than just in the top three.

...i thought the tests for the S licence were crazy....., most of the time trials (gold) are completely....insane  especially String Complex, it's giving me a complex, allright! :yuck:

I don't know if you can win all the gold license reward cars in races. I know you can win the GTSR Concept that you get for all gold S-license in some race or other. Not sure about the Vanquish V12 and the others though.

You don't have to be perfect to get gold in any license tests, although in some of the earlier tests you have to be pretty close, eg. B8, A7. In the S-license tests, you can usually afford to make some mistakes, take some corners badly, and still get gold if you go quickly through a good portion of the lap. I say 'usually' because in S3 I can't really afford any mistakes when getting gold, because I am not that good at it! But in S2, S6 and S8, with the higher powered cars, I can get 2.4, 1.8, and 2.8 seconds inside gold as my best attempts. Obviously that leaves quite some margin for error.
