Computer build help

A 6770 will do the job well too, as I currently own one. Its great and I love it (7.4 on WEI, 1774 on Furmark when OC'd), but you will probably have to upgrade it within a few years if you want to play games on high settings. I bought it for $110 CAD, comes with a $20 MIR, however I have been too lazy to submit it so far.

If he's going to be gaming, he's going to be gaming. There's no "sole" part to it. Also, it seems like YOU are the one who can't read:

Sit down.

Why should he take advice from you though? You thought 80 Fahrenheit was a high temperature for a CPU to be running at. More-so, you thought that running at 100% on all cores @ some temperature that was under the manufacturer specified max temperature was going to destroy your CPU.

You're in no position to give advice on computers as far as i'm concerned.

Also, he's gaming on a BUDGET. 1k AUS$ isn't going to get him nearly what I've suggested.

Its called an opinion and everyone has the right to say their own. I'm sure you're incompetent at things, but you DO have an opinion, right? I think you should stop your cocky attitude. I never said it was going to destroy it either, I was just a tad bit concerned. Also that CPU temp was when it was running for only 10 minutes.

Then why suggest what you suggested? Why bring it up? If you clearly knew that then you could of modified your parts list. You are quite rude to other people here.

I'm no more rude than Azuremen was on the last thread.

I suggested it, and even said
Swap out the HDD's for what you want. Subtract one GFX card. Put whatever kind of Disc drive you'd like in there, and you're good to go.

Which means I provided a stable build from which to branch off to other things if he so chose to do so.

I'm pretty sure he's not building it for gaming..

I said it isn't going to be solely used for gaming? I'm sorry, are you and Nick09 unable to read?

What? I don't see how you could make the assumption that not building it for gaming means that it's not only for gaming. Well you could, but it would not be even close to a good one.

Crysis is what.. 2 years old now? I can run that smoothly on my PC with a Radeon X1950.

Any card from this year could run it at 1080p.

Crysis is still one of the most demanding games out there. Crysis 2 can get higher frame rates.

I would suggest trying to build around an i5-2400.
Motherboard: What are the options?
Hard drive: WD 640GB blue or black
Graphics: HD6850
Power supply: Antec Truepower New or some Corsair unit if possible
RAM: Dual channel, so recommended amount would be 2x2GB or 4x2GB of DDR3 1600

For the motherboard, do NOT buy an H67 if you are either planning on getting RAM over 1333Mhz or overclocking, or want more than a few PCIE ports, as I made the stupid mistake of purchasing a 2500K with an H67 recently. Learn from other's mistakes. Also, a 2500 is quite excessive, as I have not put it under 100% load yet other than when benchmarking. However, you might want to consider it since its a $10 difference. For the PSU, try an Antec Neo Eco 520 Watt, as I currently have one. Its quiet, sleeved cables and has a high 80+ rating.

I'm pretty sure that I can't use that particular card. The only reason that the ports for the moniter look like they don't fit the Australian standard.

They do cause there is no Australian standard.

EDIT: Reading through the previous two pages, the amount of ignorance in this sub-forum is starting to come ridiculous.

As the others said, it's fine.

It's just two DVI ports(big D shaped ones), HDMI(next to one DVI port), and one DisplayPort. The monitor I gave you supports DVI easily.

@NS1: I got him a 620Watt version. It will handle what video card upgrades he needs.

 god, this granturismite dude, What an idiot!

In my defence, I did not look properly...wait, how did that help my defence?

So, I've had a decent look at parts and what not, and am probably going to buy the build nick suggested a few pages back. I will, however, go to the local computer fair on saturday, and see the prices floating around, and buy bits that may be better there, and bits online that I lnow are better value

I mean, if something doesn't fit another things, you can always get an adapter ff eBay for 3-4 dollars! Don't skimp out on the motherboard, make sure you like it. (I'm just paranoid about that now.)

I would recommend a WD drive

1TB is $55

2TB is $83

All my drives on my PC are WD it is just how much i trust their reliability, but everyone has their opinions with things like this.

You may even want a WD Black if you are going to want extra performance.

Also read reviews for parts you want to get too see what others think of them.

That WD is a caviar green. Can't say I would recommend it.

Also, I retract my AMD suggestion. At $1k you should just stick to INTEL.

I also wouldn't recommend Caviar Green, they run slower which is how they are quieter and cooler. I went for Blue which is middle of the road, still pretty quiet.

I picked the Caviar Green as they are still going to keep him in budget.

I use 2 WD blues in a raid 0 but i also have a WD black for frap and where i keep the windows pagefile.

Oh yeah.

I was looking at the blacks price.

It is a sign i need to go to sleep as it is now 1:20.

I do already have 2TB storage with an external hard drive (Which, funnily enough, is also Western Digital), so primary machine storage is not a big deal. Videos, music and documents can live on the external, with the OS and applications running off the main HD. Plus, will probably throw in my 250GB laptop hard drive when it dies.

Thanks guys for throwing in your 2 cents about this. It really shows me how much of a hardware novice I am!

That one is not only water cooled and only water cooled nVidia card i have seen but it will make my new planned PC run fully on a water cooling loop, it is also one of the most high end cards that is single slot.

Well, time for an update. As it turns out the computer fair was not on today (the internet lied to me :dopey:) So I had a brief look around at the shops. I went to officeworks (an office supplies shop), and saw a damn good model with a damn good price. I ended up getting an Asus AS-870 pro. It was a little over my budget, but I roped in the parents who gave me a little extra as a loan. so 👍 to them! I am now writing from this computer, installing all sorts of stuff and testing it out.

I am really quite happy with it. I have palyed a bit of minecraft on high graphics settings, and am really really impressed!

I'm a bit confused as to why you brought that. You could have brought a better PC from somewhere like Scan, or even built your own for about the same price...if not a bit less.
