i have a couple problems... i'll start with one.
my computer won't allow me to watch certain videos (no pun intended). it's wierd, and it just started happening the other day after we moved the computer into a different room.
offtopic: i have no idea why these screen shots came out black and white, i used ifranview

eg. i'd be on a forum and someone posts a video
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v660/jamaican/111.gif
i'd click on the video. new window opens offcourse; couple seconds after this comes up.

it doesn't matter if i click 'send error report' or 'don't send' most if not all the windows i have open close automatically. if i have about 5 windows open, about 3 of them will close. sometimes the window doesn't even have to be linked to the video, it's like the computer randomly picks windows to close
this time i clicked 'to see what this data error report contains, click here'

even if the video is to be played in media player, it happens. i can play songs in media player though.
any more information you guys need just let me know

i made another example

Wow... where to start?

If you're going to collect pirated data, get rid of LimeWire. It's got more Spyware than a Private Investigator's toolkit. Pick up something that isn't completely bs (aka. anything that doesn't use the P2P network.).

Next, you might need to check for Windows Updates. It might be an issue with your specific release of IE, which probably has a huge leak or exploit that is being used for someone else's advantage. If you are at all interested, pick up Mozilla Firefox, because it was a web browser that has a security 100 fold of what IE's is capable of.

Incorrect. LimeWire itself isn't actually spyware. what you download might be, but it isn't.

I do agree on getting FireFox but sadly the current vers. 1.5 has troubles playing videos too...which does suck ultimately. Flash doesn't work either.

Ummm.... No?
LimeWire isn't secure

I'd like to see you post a video, or a piece of flash that I couldn't run with 1.5. You probably just don't know how to use it.

i've had limewire for like a year... the the problem only started like 3 weeks ago after i moved the computer.

how would limewire stop me from wathcing videos hosted on sites (streetfire etc.) and videos played through media player. i don't download any videos from limewire at all... i can watch some videos through media player, not all. and sometimes i can watch certain videos from putfile.

Did you even click the link I posted? It's not that I really have all that much concern if your identity is stolen, but I thought I'd be nice and give you a head's up. I never said it had any relation to the fact that you can't play videos from web-sources. Try updating your graphics drivers and see if the movies don't show. If that doesn't work, then try getting some better video codecs.

"tools" in where? limewire?

when i come home later tonight i'll do everything you guys suggested
if it helps, sometimes the computer shuts down, restarts, or stops responding automatically, it says it does it to protect it something, not sure. when the computer is booting-up/starting up after it's 'shut down', the screen goes blank right before windows loads and you can hear the static, kinda like when you turn off a TV. the green light on the monitor goes orange as if the it's been left on for hours. then i have to restart it again and four options come up (not in order):
1)start in safe mode
2)choose last known good configuration (sp?)
3)start windows normally
4)i can't remember the fourth one

i normally choose between, 'choose last known good configuration' and 'start windows normaly'. sometimes it works. sometimes i'd be around the computer restarting it for about 50 times picking between the two choices until it works. it starts right up in safe mode though with no hesitation. :indiff:

i think it's a virus. we have 4 computers in the house and my uncle always gets this guy to come 'fix' them, i think he has no clue what the hell he's doing.

i think the computer shutting down is related to me not being able to watch vidoes. sorry for the long post

toyo...:

I've fixed my video problem, so please disregard that.

The LimeWire spyware issue is completely wrong. I have run 4 programs all over my computer, and directly into anywhere LimeWire places it's files, and got nothing. No bad registry keys, spyware, adware. Nothing.

Oh and by the way, spyware is different from their categorized adware. the "ad's" they are talking about are probably the "Would you like to upgrade Limewire?" ad you get every time you start it up. There are no 3rd party ads.

Please atleast attempt to look at the link I posted MachOne. It has a really thought out explanation of LimeWire, as well as, what parts of it are considered malicious. Oh, and you're right, spyware isn't adware. Adware is a "type" of spyware.
