Egg's box? £3.60.
On Friday night I updated Windows 7. When I got home after a wedding on the Sunday and turned it on it started with default program's.

I tried to put all back to normal. Tuesday I turned it on again and the same thing happened. I contacted my uncle who fixes computers and he said to do a system restore. The problem is it'll only go as far back as after the update and I was wondering is there any way to get it to go back further?

Is there a tick box labelled 'show more restore points' or something along those lines?

Yeah, only goes as far back as the 18th. In other words doesn't change the list of restore points.

What is the system doing because it sounds more like the windows 7 system repair loop. If you can describe what everything looks like that would help.

Start in safe mode and try that Matty

Tried it with networking, killed hard drive until I tried to boot it from BIOS. Then Hard Drive worked again.

That sounds like my problem.

On Sunday when I got home it had half of my Program shortcuts removed and had IE and WMP as the taskbar defaults, Rather the what I usually have Chrome and Windows Explorer.

When I opened Chrome all my bookmarks were gone, theme gone and accounts gone (Had to re login etc.)

It's redirected My Documents and Downloads folders through system32 and a few other this to empty versions of the folders. Folders were intact at original locations though (C:\Users\Home\Downloads and My Documents).

Very weird and probably isolated problem.

First thing that comes to mind is the : System Restore. However, I looked up Broken shortcuts in Win 7 and System Maintenance takes care of that. Have you gone in safe mode and searched for any Malware?

No I haven't since I don't know how. Although last time I tried Safe Mode it packed in my HDD for a few hours

Can you boot normally and get to the desktop? It may sound like something has been corrupted but try scanning for malware on the desktop.

Yeah computer in and of itself works fine. Just was the most annoying thing ever. Reinstalling now. A few hours and it'll be like new :D
