Computer won't even cut on - Calling smart people

Old is when memory is less than 512 Mb. Or when a five year old system comes from lesser manufacturers such as Gateway or eMachines. Properly designed computers are still relatively new five years later.

The paper clip only says "maybe". For example, fans can spin; lights glow. When a power supply is defective. Only numbers report a supply is 'definitely' working or 'definitely' defective. Maybe says only maybe. So buy and replace parts hoping that might fix something.

Nobody has posted an answer because hard facts (ie numbers) are not available. Another reason why a DMM (sold even in Wal-Mart and Kmart) is essential for a 'definitive' answer. Defined by the expression 'work smarter; not harder'.

After much work, what is on a list of 'beyond a doubt' working and 'beyond a doubt' defective? Work is measured by progress. One minute with a meter fills those lists quickly. And also teaches how a computer really works.

Why was memory not relevant to your problem? The post that follows those numbers says why. Another example of why replies are only as useful as information that only you can provide.

You have no reason to believe the power supply is good. In part because the power system is more than just a supply. That will become obvious once numbers result in an informative reply.

An SR1750NX???? Oh god.. I have an SR1110NX.. I doubt its the PSU, The PSU in that thing is beast. I've OC'ed t (using CPU cool) to 3.2GHZ and have had 2 DVD drives hoked up to it with 2 HDD. Just get a new PC.
 
You are not helping. If anything he needs to check the voltages with the voltmeter and see that they match up to what the power supply says. If it checks out, then it could be down to the motherboard or the ram.

Doesn't the computer turn on if there's no RAM? My PC turns on but gives an error that there's no RAM.
 
Strangely, I've had computers that refused, totally refused to even switch everything on when there's been faulty RAMs. It spins the processor fans for like a nanosecond before realising there's a problem with the RAMs and then just dies.

Generally, one would think it would still start up with defective and slightly useable RAM. Not all motherboards will do, though.
