Hey guys, this is nitro_2005, founder and director of the Australian V8 Supercar Series. This is all about a new idea i've had for after the first V8 season. It's called the Veedol Endurance Trophy.

This series exists in real-life and consists of 10 rounds, each hosted by a sponsor, on the treacherous Nurburgring Nordschleife combined with the short loop of the current GP circuit. Of course, as we all know, the GP version of Nurburgring was not included in GT4, so we would just use the Nordschliefe. How this works is as follows:

  • Each race is about 200-250 miles long IRL. Our races would be about 23 laps. I was thinking we would run these laps in the Nurburgring 4 Hour race. All you would do is run 23 laps of the circuit and when you complete lap 23, record your current race time and your fastest lap.
  • There are various classes of car, from little hatchbacks with about 100hp to big Porsches, BMWs and ex-German touring cars. We would run this in the same class format. We would also use RUFs instead of Porsches because we all know that Porsche is nowhere near included in the game.
  • There is a complicated but clever points system involved in the Veedol Endurance Trophy. You can score points for your class, but also these scores also count for the overall championship. How the points are awarded is based on how many competitors you beat in your class. Sounds complicated, i know, but I'll need to try and find out how that works. The best thing I like about the championship is the fact that anyone who takes part can win it. Because of the points system above, anything from a Honda Civic or a Mini Cooper to a Audi A4 Touring Car or a BMW M3 GTR can take the championship.
That's the basic idea. Me and Bee, my assistant director and very best friend here at GTPlanet, will look to put this into practice after the first season of V8s is over.

Feel free to post any comments you have. Also please vote on the poll I have set up.

Thanks guys!!!:) 👍

EDIT: Here's a link to the site of the real series: www.vln.de (you will need a translator, because it's all in German!).

I think it sounds intresting, certainly different from other championships.

Just one thing, I think you will have to space it out round every 3 weeks, I wouldn't see to many people up for doing 4 hour races week in week out.

Why don't you concentrate on running the series you're running just now and then make others once that's finished?

And I'm getting a strong hint of Deja vu.....

And is this before or after you run this one?

OWNED!

Couldnt help myself sorry. Nitro, with all due respect you and bee have your hands full with the V8s, concentrate on a new series when the V8s is over, it will be a success it just needs your utmost dedication.

Agreed with both.

Nitro, you're really keen and everything, but singlehandlely you pretty much spam the OLR Long Rcaing Series forum with ideas, failed series, or momentary fanciful whims. Could you complete the one you're running before you start twisting our arms for the next series? Or are you getting bored of that one already?

Wait guys. Just stop. Read the title, Its just a concept right now, we are just seeing if people would be intrested is all.

All our focus is still on the V8's and we promise to deliver the best fun and competition we can give with the V8's. All we were doing is seeing if anyone thinks it could be a possibility we are not saying we will make this championship and we are not saying we won't.

Its just an idea that could easially grow with some positive comments.

I honestly don't not think that there is enough people for GTP to handle two endurance series. Earth's one is going along great (ESES - Earth's Super Endurance Series), and I'm pretty sure he will run another one if the interest is strong. Endurance series as well are very much a niche catagory, there is just not enough people to sustain two of them, maybe you could talk with him about incorporating some of your ideas into his next series?

Also, personally, I feel there is a plethora of series going on anyway, and there is something for everyone.

- We have a JGTC series for the faster cars and a team element to it.
- An Endurance series for the people who need no sleep.
- A Nurburgring series which is great for learning the 'ring, working out winning set-ups and driving powerful cars on low grip tyres.
- A V8 series
- A Historic Trans-Am Series
- WRC

And upcoming we have

- World GT
- WRC
- Muscle: Unlimited
- American Iron

It's not like there are 1000s of people in each series either. Most people who regularly race in these are in two or three other series anyway...

Not all comments have to be positive. If you post an idea, you must expect some negative too. I know it's here just to gauge interest. I'm just telling you my opinion on it.

Just to add to whats already been said, i think two series on the Ring is too much...

And to be honest Nitro when your series is over dont you think it would be fair to step aside and let others have a go at running something??

regards

David

P.s there needs to be another option on the Poll for - "I think this idea has some value but maybe needs looking at sometime in the future" (to which i might have voted)

Well ok then fair enough but just trust nitro and me that we have our eyes still kept on the V8's.

Personally I think 4 hours would be too long to be "fun". With only 6 cars on a 12 mile course you'd probably never see anybody....so it would almost be like time trialing for 23 laps (except you wouldn't have a "ghost" to pace you and provide a little bit of competition). I guess the race itself (Nurb 4 Hour) could be competitive but only when the chosen car matches up the AI competition. I also think final time would be hard to get...you'd have either a) pause the race at the exact instant you crossed the line or b) watch the replay and add each individual lap time...but wait GT4 won't record a replay that long. But even if you got a time that was within 1s of being exact it probably wouldn't make a difference in the final standings...with a race this long there will probably be several seconds of between competitors. What happens if you get "hypnotized" by the Nurb and don't realize you've finally run your 23 laps until your're several seconds beyond the S/F line?

A better possible format may be to run in arcade. You could define the length and even have some input into strength of the competition...but you would lose the ability to "tune" suspensions & so forth.

But even then, for me, 23 laps at the Nurb would be too much to take. Unless the AI competition was a PERFECT match for my skill level and kept things interesting on a lap by lap basis.

I think something shorter (absolutely no longer than 2 hours -- and preferably closer to 1 hour) would be better and even then I'd like to have evenly matched competition to keep it interesting. I expect you'll settle into a groove and be running laps within a few seconds of each other so you really wouldn't be proving anyhting by having a longer race...you're leader at lap 10 would probably be the same person who crosses the line with the quickest time on lap 23.

Also there would be no way to "verify" things as the replay would show a time but not a lap quantity and the replay itself would probably get about 40 minutes of racing....I could run 22 laps and turn in my time...even then I probably would finish behind some of the best WRS D1 people.

Not "positive" comments but hopefully helpful.
