Concerning Secret Cars...

Rocket-powered D-Type? What about a twin-engined, 400+ hp, 4WD Mini Cooper? :D

Anyhow, people. The focus of the topic isn't "does GT4 need secret cars," instead, I'm talking about what should be done concerning getting secret cars. Whether a secret car is a Fiat 500R from GT2 or the Ueno Clinic McLaren that won Le Mans in 1995, the topic is about what to do with those. And to me, if I redesigned GT3, as soon as I won the Lightweight K Cup, you get the Mini Cooper. And to me, you should be able to purchase Mini Coopers to increase your garage. I mean, if there is a car you can own only once and try not to sell, that's dumb. You want to be able to win the cars you unlock. Tokyo Xtreme Racers Zero and 3 had a great system (Zero was better at it). You race against a car, and if you beat that person, you unlocked that car for you to buy.

As far as races that feature multiple cars to win, would you want (a) unlock all cars even if you win only one, or (b) unlock cars seperately? If you want to be unique, maybe if you have the money, you can unlock a car for its "sale price." So it means that if a car is worth 1M Cr, you can unlock it for 1/4th of the price, which would be 250,000 Cr. So even if you don't win the car you're looking for, you can unlock as many as possible, granted you have the money. What do you think?

good ideas about unlocking for purchase, john.

I think it might be neat if you can chose to unlock a car for purchase and keep the cash, or take the car directly.

I think that if you unlock a car, but decide to sell it later, that car would become available, occasionally, in the 'used car lot' (like GT2) That way it would punish you for selling the motor, but not stop you from buying it back if you were desperate enough. Perhaps the used car lot could be a way of introducing 'secret' cars. These cars could become available only very occasionally, and would mean you always had to check the used car section if you wanted something interesting.

Maybe you could hire a "snout" who you could give certain criteria too and he would go off and hunt the used car lots for cars that matched them...

Also the Used Car scene could very easily be part of the Online Fun... I.e. You've got a car that you want to sell then you post a classified ad on the online forum or something and then people can come and buy it... or try to haggle you down etc?! (At least you wouldn't have to look for rust!)

Excellent, excellent idea, online classifieds,

That's actully a good idea. It needs to be able to list "new cars" though... Meaning cars that haven't shown up before.

something else that would be interesting with used/new cars is if say you started in 2002 and new cars of that year are all you can buy. When you get to game year 2003 (I suggest it's shorter than 356 days) all 2002 cars become used and cars of 2003 are sold new. Maybe they should give you a choice of what year you start... Extra work for PD though.

I'm sure you get the idea...

o_O Were we playing the same version of GT3? Because in mine you couldn't sell one off cars like the Viper GTSR Team Oreca for example. They had no price and couldn't be sold. Everything else could be won from more than one place to my knowledge.

Toyota Sprinter Trueno Shigeno (Amateur FR Challenge only - one prize only)
Toyota Celica TRD Sports M (Amateur FF Challenge only - one prize only)
Nismo R32 Skyline S Tune (Amateur 80's Sports only - one prize only)
Spoon Civic TypeR (Professional FF Challenge only - one prize only)
Shelby Cobra (Professional Spider/Roadster only - one prize only)
Aston Martin Vanquish (Professional British GT Cup and IA-Licence all-gold only - one prize each only)
Mazda 787B (Professional Like The Wind and 75% completion only - one prize each only)

In PAL the Oreca Viper and Honda S2000 cannot be bought or sold, and display no price.

It doesn't address the issue of accidently selling a one-off car, but you do know that you can buy copies of cars you've already won? Just trade with your own garage and voila, two Minis.

Hiya! :D :O

Just a thought about something that can solve the problem. Maybe all the cars you have unlocked during the play of the game should be placed in a separate garage called like "Prized Vehicle." :O This part my be controversal right here, but maybe the unlocked cars that are placed in the "Prized Vehicle" can't be sold. This way it can't be sold by accident or a sell where later on you regret, but it also gets in some "baddies" if you want to sell them for money to buy other car/car accesseries!!! :O:O

Don't be confused. Some cars cannot be BOUGHT if a price isn't mentioned. When I tried to trade a Nissan Z Concept Car from GT3, no price was specified. But when you had the money, the doggoned thing cost between 200K Cr and 300K Cr! I can understand why, since it's a concept. But I will tell you one thing. The only way a 350Z will cost 200,000 is if it were (a) a Tuning Car, or (b) a GT300 Race Car. As much as I know, every car in GT3 has a sale price, so multiplying that price by 4 will give you its overall price including tuning. Every modification (besides oil change and settings) will cost money. The more mods, the more expensive. So how do you know how much it costs? You probably can't. It's pretty easy if you have a second Memory Card with cars on it. Because you can just load the Savegame file up, check the sale prices, multiply that by 4, and boom. You're set.

Now on to Madmoiselle McLaren. I see where you're going with this idea, but I don't think it will work. When I mentioned Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, I mentioned that if you beat the rival who drives that car, you will win a chance to purchase the car. You unlock it, you can buy it. Speed King's GT500-looking Nissan Skyline is the best car in the game for speed and control. You manage to get to 1200+ hp like I have, you literally OWN Tokyo's highways. Sad thing for you is, no McLaren F1. However, there is this Toyota Supra that looks like a McLaren wannabe driven by 12 Zodiacs member "Exotic Eve." Where I was going is that if you get a car that can't be bought normally, all you have to do is win the race and win that car. Then, you can purchase and sell at will. One other nice idea is to unlock the car by paying to unlock it. I have more to add, but I'll do it in a later post, saying that I don't want to make 4-page long posts. That p*sses people off. Next reply?

Well, on a related note, I found out that if a car in GT4 does not have a price on it, then when you sell it, you get NOTHING for it. That's what happened to me last night when I decided to get rid of my Atenza concept because I wanted some extra cash. :ouch:

do all bonus cars fit in that category? or is it just some cars that have no price above them, the latter would be strange though...

Most of the prize cars in GT4 have no price thus they cant be sold for money. Very roughly, I'd say 2 out of 3 cars cant be sold for money.

The Special Conditions Hall, on the other hand, has many quick races that give very nice race and rally cars that an be sold for 25 million Cr or more, so that about fixes it.

Money is only an issue early in the game anyhow.

Wow!

This has to be a mistake. Every car should have a value. I wonder what were they smoking when they decided to do it this way. Eeeesssshhh.....

See ya :sly:

Can the cars that are license silver & gold rewards i GT4 be bought/won elsewhere?

In a way, it'd be quite nice if they couldn't. It'd be inspiration to get all golds, anyhow. I didn't really feel there was sufficient inspiration for getting all golds in GT3 - plus I had the feeling that getting all golds in S license would be crazy

No way!!! I want suprises, It would ruin it for me if they done that

Yeah, if everything was unlocked from the start then there'd no point of races as there'd be no rewards and the game would be completed when you buy it.

Give me one off cars, that can only be won through a race, but if you sell them you can go back and race and win again. but what is the point in prize cars if you can just buy all of them.

I thought that actually was the case in GT4, or did i hear wrong? Coulda sworn i read about someone saying that is possible now?

Yes, I can confirm that it is possible in GT4 to rewin a bonus car. When you go back to enter a race that you've won already, a box pops up that asks if you want to erase your previous results (for the entire series) and start again. If you say yes, then win all the races again you will win the bonus car again. I have done this myself on the Professionial Hall Clubman Cup. I now have 2 Mazdaspeed Atenza's in 2 different colors!

Excellent to know 8400 👍

I miss the days of GT1 and 2 where pushing for the best results in licenses actually meant something. I know... having prizes there that can be won elsewhere means the people that can't manage gold can get the cars too... but it also gives people much less reason to try harder for the licenses, and it's fair to assume that the less time spent on licenses, the less chances they have of really fine-tuning their driving anyways. The fact that they've now included prize cars for Silver and Bronze bothers me; if someone manages all gold before they start racing, they already have a stable of 15 cars. I'm pretty sure a lot of them can be bought.

Oh well... to be honest, I'm happy to hear money's not a problem after you're underway. I want to grab anything rare as quickly as possible in prizes, and then buy whatever else I want. The quicker I can expand my collection, the better.

For me the prize car system is just stupid to begin with. I mean think about it. you have cars that you know absolutly nothing about untill you win them, and you have multiple cars that can be one in each series. i only want to have to do each series once and looking at that setup it will be verry easy to complete the entire game and miss alot of cars. Nor have any clue what you are missing, without looking up a prize car list. I dont like the prize cars at all. I think you should get nothing but credits and trophys for doing races. But as for keeping the game interesting? I think the only way to aquire cars should be through buying them. Thusly, all cars should be able to be bought. BUT, some cars should be left out of the dealerships untill a certain percentage of the game is completed. in other words, you have a decent selection of cars to pick from in the begining for completing the game, but race cars and other special cars would gradualy apear for purchase as you progress through the game. This way, if you have 100 percent, then you know everything is unlocked, and you can start building your collection just the way you like it (i.e. color choice, etc) with the massive amount of credits you've saved up. Also, this way, if you decide to use that special car in a championship and damage the engine, or put on a mod you cant remove, and then decide you want it stock, you can go back to the dealership and get a nice fresh 0.0 mile replacement, instead of having to go through annother hour of racing and 15 minutes of the save/load thing trying to get the car you want in the color you want.

P.S. beleve it or not, this is somewhat of a compromise for me. If it where up to me I would just as soon have every car available for purchase in the dealership right from the beginning. and to those who say a game like that is a completed game, you have yet to truly expierience gran turismo. The races themselves are great. Thats half the fun. and just because you can see every car dosent mean there arent any suprizes. their is a big difference in seeing the car and driving the car. earning the cash to buy and drive every car in GT4 could keep you buisy till GT6. Even with PD's release history.

I think you're first suggestion is the best idea. I sold just about all of the one-off prize cars in GT3 only to discover you couldn't win them back. If you win/unlock a car then it should then be available to purchase in the car dealer, even if it is at a higher price than perhaps it is worth.

GT4 sounds like it will take some time to complete so the prospect of having to start over to re-win a car i've already won doesn't really appeal to me.
yes indeed.once unlocked should always be available

I don't make a lot of rants about the GT series, but I guess since some of you brought back this old thread. Because as I say, as long as there's relevance and want to simply review and recap what we've talked about, it's all good. I only like unlocking things only if the game isn't too tedious in trying to make something out of nothing. Like for example, "Le Mans 24 Hours" p*ssed me off when I tried to win new cars in Time Trial mode. The times were too unrealistic to beat, and I've never unlocked any new muscle in the game from this mode.

How tedious is unlocking things in this game?
