Cone cancer

The killer cones thing was discussed in a thread here I think it was GTS day 3, and I have them turned off since then.

I'm really looking forward now to meet you in a race someday  ... I'll have an eye on you and keep that extra bit of a distance 👍.

I shall make sure you never see the pesky cones you can't see and as an added bonus, I'll be doing random bunny hops for your entertainment.

Right. So I hit a cone earlier that I hadn't knocked over. So was it knocked over by someone who couldn't see it, or someone who could and if you can't see it does that mean you can't hit it but the car behind you that can see can?

I'll give you an answer just as soon as I get a grip of the question.

The other cars cannot see them nor can they get disrupted by them.... but they can knock them over and into your way!?!

They're in the expert settings by default so anyone who turns them off is no longer an expert as they have less to dodge on track. n00bs...:lol:

Cones behavior is really weird, fact. My question is not exactly on topic, anyway, is it too hard to just switch them off ? Maybe leave the blue markers for corners where you don't have any visual cues ( Last corner of Big Willow is a friend of mine ). Why not just use standard cues like distance markers, curbs, stands, color of tarmac, color of grass etc etc ?

I started out with no cones but was having a nightmare getting the flow of the new tracks. Turned them on and I got the tracks down in half the time.

Strangely, I kind of enjoy having to dodge them when they're on track. It's like having a new corner.

Course maker coming soon :D ...

You're right of course, cones may be of help when you learn a new track - but shouldn't you just know the track when you start racing ( OL ) there ?

Shrodingers cone - If you put a cone in a box and close the lid, it is both alive and dead simultaneously.

Oh, is it a conecat then  ? Nobody knows ...

Second edit :
No idea how to stop laughing and get some sleep ... and not dream of cones.

I know the tracks reasonably well now but I've come to rely on a lot of the brake marker cones for quite a few corners I'm struggling on. I can lose a lot of markers but not those. One day...

You can use the outlap in FIA races to push them all away (or at least the risky ones).

It's always hilarious to see someone get launched into the air.... until it's you :(

I always tend to gamble on hitting the cone with my tyres, it almost never pays off.

So the cones are only visible/present for people who have the assist turned on? I would have thought a physical part of the game would have to be the same for all players in a Sport mode race

I dont get what the cones have to do in the expert settings by default. Maybe a mistake? Why would a expert drive with cones? I see many fast players using it on YT. But i just cant take those serious. The cones help a lot to drive consistent. It should be banned for lvl A-S Races.
Just my opinion. I used them for 1 week on willow and brand hatch and then deactivated them for ever. I have seen Cones on Trackdays but never in real Races.
My guess is. Delete this feature and a lot so called A or S Drivers will do a lot more mistakes on the critical tracks like willow and brands hatch where it is hard to find proper indicators for braking zones.
A disadvantage of cones luckily is that they can be moved and i always hope for some that only look on cones go off track because their braking point cone was flying.

For those who have the assist turned off they're invisible but present in a way so that they still can unknowingly ( and without any impact ) be knocked off and spread over the track. So are they really of big help in a race or more of an annoyance ? I imagine guys like me trying to use the track to its very limits hitting them all the time ...

PS
Aside from talking about un unbelievable issue this discussion is really funny, guys :D.

They're a pet hate of mine too but I can't resist sweeping the track of stray cones to try and get air off them.

Here's a question. If you're the only person running with cones turned on (I do) and they get knocked into the track, do other drivers think you're nuts when you go around what they can't see?

Marshalls place cones nicely around the track before Q, and then guaranteed, there will be at least someone who gets great satisfaction from whacking them as only half will still be in place on the first flying lap. I bet you just love seeing how far up the track they fly

Usually the ones that risk crashing in knocking down are the ones needed the most thankfully.

Yes and it really is true that the people who can't see them can hit them around the track without knowing about it or without it affecting them one bit. Whilst the people who have them on can get launched by them, so it's best to turn them off.

The cones are just another visual marker, just like track features. Easier to jump in and play without tuning in to the track and car you're doing.

I think you're reading too much into it.

They're mildly annoying but the benefits outweigh it. Once I get all my markers down though, they'll get switched off.

The shovel part is good but I think we need a weightier vehicle for these particular cones.

Madness! I have turned cones off now anyway... will try and remember where they were though, to inconvenience others

Is this true?

The bit about the cones, I mean, not the funniness.

I wonder if a future update could include weapons like Mario Kart. I'd love some to have some missiles to use against those who use their cars that way anyway.

I don't think anybody hits invisible cones on purpose to annoy other drivers ( except @Robben maybe who said "... will try and remember where they were though, to inconvenience others  ..." ) :D:D:D. Cones aren't track limit in GTS, so if you tackle let's say the first chicane on Dragon Trail on an aggressive line you just can't avoid it.
So please, save your missiles 👍 !

I think cones are bananas, their actual cars are the missiles!
