only on (i think it is) Fuji 90's the corners right-left-right just before the last long fast bend to the long straight. Going straight over the grass without lifting and than breaking hard the second you tough the tarmac, it'll save you about 8 seconds, and when driving a Lupo 1.4 against Lupo Cup cars you'll need those seconds !!!!

Hmm... I always wondered about cutting. In most places where you could cut PD put something (barrier, blocks, etc) that gets in the way. They even made control over grass much harder in GT4 than in GT3. But yet, they did leave a few spots in some tracks where you could cut if you wanted to. You really have to question whether they did it on purpose.

The hardest thing in GT4 is to find a balanced race.
Many races feature one fast AI and four slow AI. You then enter the race with your fast car
(how many GT players enter a race knowing they will not win) only to find the fast car has been replaced by a slow AI entrant and a resulting walkover.
Or vice versa.
You enter a race with a competitive car to the four slower AI and then find that the fast AI entrant is back to totally overwelm the entire field.

This is my single biggest complaint about GT4. I can even deal with the idiot savant AI, except the inclusion of a rabbit just bugs the crap out of me. It forces you to either drive dirty for the first lap in order to clear the field before the rabbit gets an unbetaable lead, or else drive an overpowering car so you can take your time getting around the backmarkers cleanly, but still reel in the rabbit at will. Either way sucks.
 
I car abused all the time in my GT4 game. It's just "the Gran Turismo way."

Maybe if the game properly rewarded you for challenging yourself, by giving you extra money, or maybe being fun to play, then I'd do fair racing. Instead of the broken, useless A-Spec point system.

The reward is that you're not bored silly driving by yourself after you blow by the AI in the first half a lap.

Honestly, the graphics are nice and all, but the scenery is just not that interesting as I lope after the clock with the AI in my dust.

So if the idea of a fair race isn't rewarding in itself, even against the semi-lame AI, I respectfully submit that additional in-game prizes will not fix it for you.
 
In Series race events you can lame the rabbit during practice by blocking or knocking him off the track. The rabbit starts down the back, you start 1 or 2, the AI driving is so poor that the rabbit can get 3rd at best. It evens the field.
PD usually has the rabbit at the back of the field in practice so it takes some skill to block on your warm up lap and then qualify fastest on your timed lap and finish before the rabit.
It also is poor that the AI qualifing times are a lot slower than what they can do in the race.
 
such a hassle to go through, just for an even race.. and still you'd absolutely wallop the other four cars... bring on the full line up of gt5! :)

Actually, Enthusia fits the bill, with a larger reward for racing with an equal or inferior car. Also, Enthusia fits the description of "fun to play." Therefore, I find the idea of a fair race in Enthusia very appealing. Like you said, it's boring when the AI can't even compete.

The same goes for Live for Speed, and I'm not even rewarded for using an equal or inferior car. It's just more fulfilling to use such cars.

To me, GT4's Gran Turismo mode is just a monotonous grind, where the goal is to scrounge up cash and finish races. It doesn't matter what car I'm driving, or what cars my opponents have, it's just boring. Using a fair car threatens the success of accomplishing the aforementioned goals, and therefore runs the risk of wasting time. So I just drive the fastest car (or one of the faster cars) allowed.
 
I needed quick cash and ran Capri rally (easy) with Formula 1 car.
It was lame and I almost lapped the poor ai bastard on second lap. Hehe, but I got what I needed: 4 game days and ~ 250 000 credits.
 
nothing wrong with abusing cars and races. heheheh.. that's why PD didn't put that many restrictions.

i try to *redeem* myself by clearing the races, and putting in a detuned or weaker car...

currently doing the race of turbo sports... initially blew thru the competition with a fully loaded 95' R33 (or was it 32) with 10 a-spec points but now, I stripped off all the performance parts and am trying to run the race with over 100 a-spec points.

it's actually fun! hehehehe... finally enjoying the game, and learning how to tweak my settings
 
Has enyone ever thought of what the Least possible A-spec points would be? I mean, if you want to simply destroy the opposition, that could be an aim...

As for tha lame racing discussion I can ad that the reward comes in form of cars. At least for me, since I couldn´t care less about the races, but I simply love the cars! Freerun here I come!

it would still be over 3,000 A-spec points meening, there still is all the 250 Point Driving missions.
 
I could not, for the life of me, win the Pan European race at the 'Ring. I've tried a lot of cars, but I wanted to at least score 100 A-spec points on this event. The Ruf RGT works great everywhere on the circuit...except the straights.

I moved onto a Clio Race Car, with a Stage 2 turbo. A very nice car, great handling, it was walking the race's 2 laps until an TVR punted me from behind while braking for those high-speed esses before the start/finish line. When I tried again, the Cizeta forced me off the road not once, but twice in the same race. Apparently, the Cizeta doesn't have brakes as an option.

I gave up a frustrating day of racing by popping some S2's on my trusty Mercedes-Benz CLK Race Car. I got my 8 A-spec points with ease, though!

I've used a lot of the Dodge Ram, because it sure is fun to drive and the replays are good for a laugh.
 
i think i did that a couple times too against that poor JGTC's i feel ashame

I bet you are using the normal controller, like me. Unfortunately the "rough" surface of the 'ring requires very fine steering control that is nearly impossible without a wheel. Without the wheel, an overwhelming car or superhuman dexterity seem to be the only options. So I would not feel bad about that one.

I ended up borrowing a wheel from a friend and things got a lot easier. The wheel was also invaluable to pass IA-15/16 (100 failed attempts without the wheel, success on the 2nd try with the wheel for IA-15, first try on IA-16... need I say more?).

But I still enjoy driving with the controller better, at least until I become rich and buy a custom wheel chair/rig.

BTW, I agree about the Cizeta's brakes... I used a Cizeta for some of the races in the Extreme hall license that require an IB license. It was hilarious. You might even enjoy it if you enjoy rallies.

My name is Specialized and im a Car Abuser.

My addiction stems for the love of the nismo 400R. I love the look and the feel of the car, the long longs and butality this car holds in its stance. The way those fabulous deep dish rims sit perfectly in its arches, like a cheetah ready to pounce on its prey. I was taking my beloved Black Nismo 400R for a drifting session around el capitan. My baby loves it there, she feels free but then i had a thought.........would my precous 400R look better in yellow? or Red? maybe even silver? I was devestated!!! I needed to find out, i needed more 400R's.

I stepped into my garage and this is where my problem started, Along side my 400R was a nearly 900 hp R34 Skyline. I took this to the 90's Japenese Car cup and blew away the opposision! They never had a chance....I was laughing psychoticly around the track, pausing only to mutter the words " they wil never catch me" to myself followed by another outburst of maniacal laughter.

There they were, red, yellow, black and silver. all together but my addiction hasnt stopped. I find myself opposing the opposition with at least 500 hp more sometimes more. I can still picture the faces of the suckers in there civics and lesser powered cars in the sunday cup as i roared past in my black 11 hundred horsepower toyota GTone just for fun.

"I .....I.........I really am........... a Car Abuser" i said while crying, then i looked up and around to find that the people i have been talking to have gone, I try to move but the harnesses are holding me fast. I look to my right to see another poor victim in his "fast" mitsubishi EVO. I look ahead and start laughing loudly again as i realise im actually back in that 900bhp stock looking skyline :trouble: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I think I need to take a break from 200 point races, tune a Skyline to the max and blow away the AI.
I need 3 more 400 R's as well.

But, yeah, been there raped that (metaphorically speaking, of course :D) I wonder if there is a secret hate club against me in my GT Universe... :lol:

Interesting - a dual shock in my hands and I golded IA-15 on my second full lap around...and I would hardly describe myself as a good driver (although my friends have called me a Norschleife specialist...)

I think you qualify as having "superhuman" small-motion control.

Using the dual shock with the IA-15 Mercedes I was fine in all the turns, but if I got the car up to sufficient speed to beat the race I'd spin off the road on the straightaways. And I am not a bad driver, I just started taking the S license tests (done about a quarter) and passed then between the first and third try, with the dual shock.

But with the wheel IA-15 was a piece of cake.
 
I also use the dualshock and don't find it a problem.
 
I not only am a car abuser. But I abuse other racers.

One particular incident comes to mind.

I was in the mist of the 1000 mile race in the Europian hall, abusing the racers by flying around the ring in my 63 Vette. I was well ahead of the competition when I happened to come up on the lonely last place driver in his Fiat 500. I was actualy feeling sorry for him. The rest of the field had to be at least 3 laps on him. He looked like he was having trouble getting up to speed through out the course. So I figred that I would give hime a hand. :trouble:

So as wecame out of the final turn before the straight, I placed myself behind his car. Actualy on his back bumper. And as the straight opened up, I began to accelerate.

Slowly we both climed the speedo, but not fast enough to make him a contender in this race yet. So I touched off my nitrous. Both cars climed in speed a bit faster, but his driving became a little eratic. It took quite a bit of steering adjustments to keep him on my front bumper for the legnth of the straight. But I managed.

Everything was going well untill the turn at the end of the straight. I tapped my breaks to make the turn, The Fiat seemed to be standing on the breaks, but came no where close to making the turn. Last I saw of him that lap, he was sliding through the grass and bouncing off of the guardrails.

He was one of many people that I have "helped" along in a race.

I have also helped others on the straights of Fugi, and the High Speed Ring.

Is this really a problem? I am after all helping my fellow racers.

Yes, but for some reason, that particular race is giving me fits.

Admittedly, I suck at the 'Ring with anything more than 500hp; the other events at the 'Ring were easy for me, but the Pan Euro and the Real Circuit Tour events are still < 10 A-spec pt. wins in my book...
 
My abuse was with the 1000 miles series. I deicded to use a fully modified Charger. 100hp vs. 800ish hp....you tell me what happens!!
