Note: poll 4 is based on ‘new’ rally cars that have appeared in screenshots of GT4/P.

Peugeot 205 T16 E2 (try saying that with a mouthful of Sao biscuits ...) all the way!

1775cc turbocharged transverse engine producing 450bhp (though it's actually closer to 550bhp). Kevlar/plastic body, 6-speed gearbow, 4WD weighs 910kg and has a barely-legal rear wing that was only allowed because Peugeot convinced the FIA that it aided cooling (but it was really to beat the Audi Quattro E2).

Although it had a relatively short lifespan, the car won seven major international rallies, took out the 1986 World Rally hampionship for manufacturers and gave Juha Kankkunen the 1986 drivers' title.

The 205 T16 E2 was so fast that that only other car could catch it ... another 205 T16 E2

I voted for the new scooby. I like the idea of some of the oldies like the S4, but I’m a bit concerned that PD won’t provide us with enough recent rally cars. Hope that they are just holding back info until GT4 release :nervous:

Edit: where are the bloody Audis?

Man, Samberto. You must be our little GT4 insider, eh?

To stay true to the "80 manufacturers" deal as mentioned, I'm surprised not to see any Metros or anything. No Ford Sierra or something? Maybe I'm just going on "Colin McRae Rally 2" or something. To be honest, I don't really think I see one I really like. If I had to choose, I'd go a different direction- Lancia. The Lancia Delta S4 is the monster in GT2 that I said was ugly, but could handle beautifully (at least I think it is, but nothing to take away from its prowess). I don't like RWD off road because while you get the oversteer working easier, you don't really get the control working in case you oversteer pretty bad during opposite lock (when the car is sideways. You NASCAR fans should know this perfectly). So I'd also want the Lancia Stratos wedge, but more as a road racer and not so much a rally car even though I sampled it in GT2's Arcade rally mode on my favorite course in that game: Smokey Mountain (North). I think control is more critical in a RWD rally car than a 4WD or AWD car. So I'd take the Lancias in this sense. By the way, nice Audi R8C in your Avatar, Samberto.

Down with Rallies in GT!

As much as I want to drive some of these cars, I wish the GT series would drop the rallying altogether. I read some threads about motorbikes in GT and how people think they belong in a seperate game. Thats how I feel about rallies. Go and play Colin McCrash 7 or something so that PD can make more road racers and tracks. Rally games need navigators and heaps of stages (not circuts) to keep them fresh and exciting. It’s that jack of all trades argument.

My wish for GT4 is that you can turn the dirt circuits into tarmac. I’m dreaming of Tahiti Maze or Smokey Mountain as a road race. (With cusco rex not wrc car)

I completely agree with you. Unless it's a dedicated game, then rallying is too big and complex to try integrating into GT4.

Also on the fact that tahiti maze would make a great tarmac track! 👍

They should keep the fantastic rally cars though. For...road stages, I guess.

Do away with rallies????:dunce: Don’t agree with that sentiment. I thought the rallies in GT were more fun to play than other rally games, so the team at PD aren’t spreading themselves too thinly. Anyway Kazunori loves rallies too much to get rid of them. His favourite driver is of course the now retired Tommi makinen.

Who knows, GT4 might include stages and co-drivers 👍 easy left...

I also think the rally side of the game should be dropped...why? because in my opinion the physics engine is not developed enough yet for it to be as 'correct' as the tarmak surfaces. I don't mind a drive in the rally stages but spend most of my time on the road ones.

That's all well and good, but Gran Turismo is a simulation of driving. KY wants to create the ultimate driving experience and so including ralying as an aspect of driving is naturally a part of it. Yes, games like Colin McRae 4.0 will always rule supreme on the rallying pile, but Gran Turismo is in a league of its own when it comes to driving games because it seeks to recreate every aspect of driving and no other driving game has so far done that - all the other GTClones are obviously made by people who have seen the success of GT and said 'Hey we can do that!'

But I do agree with one thing: no bikes. Gran Turismo isn't about racing on bikes. It's about cars. there's other games out there if you want bikes.

And Heihachi, this is only provisional based on screenshots, so it's a very real possibility the mighty Quattros are lurking under Gt4's hood.

I don’t want Gran Turismo to be the best all-rounder/jack of all trades master of none. It’s a question of priorities. Sure rallies in GT are a bit of fun, but if PD spent the time and resources devoted to creating the rallying on the main sim mode we would be in for a superior experience.

I really don’t think many people give a crap about the rally mode, and if enough do then surely polyphony should make a separate dedicated GT-Rally game, rather than including a hastily implemented rally add on. I feel the same about other diversions such as ice racing and drag racing and photo mode:tdown:

--edit--think about it guys, each rally car modelled could be a proper circuit racer. Audi Quattro or Audi R8. Not hard is it?

Samberto : The Peugeot is a 205 T16 E2 (you can tell by the big wing at the back, the 205 T16 didn't have it)

Anyhows I can vote in this poll!!! I'm not split... as much as I like the Lancia Stratos (At least there is certain to be a little bit of Ferrari in GT4 ;) )

My vote HAS to go to the 205 T16 E2!!!

Although IF the Ford RS200 was in the poll, I would've been split again.

Pity we don't know about the Audi Sport Quattro's, although that comes in a little behind...

I voted for the Stratos...

However I wanted to vote for the Renault 5 and the Pug 205...

Also this poll is sadly missing the RS200 that we know has been tested by PD and is therefore highly likely to be in!!!

PS Also what about the Toyota MTRC... I beleive that this car has Rally ambitions as well as Racing ambitions?!

Thanks for that hellnback, I’ll pm a mod to get it fixed.

Edit: Hello Yeti, I’m fond of the RS200(would have voted for it myself) but we need an in-game pic. As for the MTRC… off road-able but hardly a true rally car. Being from the UK you would know how dreadful that thing is to drive on the grand canyon circut

It has to be the R5 Maxi or the 205 T16, you can't beat those Group B monsters!

its a shame there is no sign of the RS200 from GT2, and a bigger shame if the Metro 6R4 or Audi Quattro Sport are overlooked as well!

I voted for the Peugeot 205. I have had two different 205's (and one 309) and I loved the little car. Driving around in this beast would be dangerous for my family :) But I would have liked to ...

I’m sure I saw a TGS shot of RS200 somewhere on my travels. Anybody got one??Maybe it was another PD test day pic

Must have been thinking of the second pic (edit)

You say that as if we or anybody had a choice in the matter
 . Its Kazonori Yamauch's game, he wants it in so its in. so dont say" so pd can make more road racers" PD is Kazonori Yamauch. So why dont you email him and tell him to play colin McRae.

Rally cars are fine in GT4... it's the tracks that suck major ass.
See, the problem is that the GT4 engine doesn't simulate a rally track nearly as good as it simulates a regular racing circuit. The rally tracks on GT4 are completley flat, lack different types of ground, and they just don't look like a rally track.
Go play Richard Burns Rally and you'll see what a rally track should look like, and more importantly, FEEL like. the feel of a track in Richard burns rally can't be even begin to be reproduced by the GT4 engine, it's just on a league of it's own right now.
it really makes you wonder why rally tracks are included at all, i mean, evryone keeps defending KY because he's "such a perfectionist, and won't include something unless it's PERFECT!" (online play anyone?).
well, it really makes you think... if he's such a perfectionist then what the hell are those extremley mediocre rally tracks doing in the game? the graphics look ok... but the track seems a lot more like a regular circuit than an actual rally track, if it wasn't for the fact that the cars slide wildly on rally tracks, one would think they are just closed tracks. 👎

Regular circuits on the other hand.. are as good as they can get in a PS2 game, i'm very imprssed with the new engine. GT3 had subpar tracks, GT4 brings up the tracks finally up to par with the great looking cars. can't wait to play it.

I like how PD added some new rally cars, but i've always been a fan of the Subaru Rally Car, and to me, the thing looks awesome. I've seen it up close too at the North American International Auto Show....beautiful car. So my choice was the 2003 Subaru Rally Car.

I'm looking forward to the Starion. I've been waiting for a Starion in GT, and I don't recall there being one in 2. Hopefully, they have a non-rally Starion, too.

I don’t actually know where this screen came from. Looks like Xbox textures. Code kev where are you?

My two anticipated rally cars are not in yet. The Lancia 037 and the peugeot 405 t rally (hopefully the pikes peak version. I guess I'll vote for the delta s4

So what was a thread about confirmed new rally cars turns out to be a slugfest about GT rallying in general. If you want to go that way, read on. If not, disregard this post.

I think LMPs are more than welcome in GT4. I think drifting is more than welcome in GT4. Okay, rally racing in GT may not be on the level of Colin McRae or the XBOX-only series, RallySport Challenge. I've played Colin McRae Rally 2 and RallySport Challenge 2 (demo). Normally, rally games are mostly associated with rocky terrain and narrow roads, blasts through forests, battling rain and snow, and that sort of thing. And oh yeah, car damage. GT4 is perfectly fine with rally. And if you don't like the rally raicng, at least use the cars for road racing. That's what GT3 did with the GT World Championship Beginner's class. I actually still get a kick out to GT rallying. I'm not really big on rally, but who doesn't love sliding out on dirt, going into opposite lock while attacking the apexes? GT rallying is perfectly fine. And if they don't work on it for GT4, they perhaps will in GT5.

With that said... I'm done.

I've never been a huge fan of rally racing, so I don't know all the intricacies of it. I like GT's rally racing well enough, although I much prefer the road racing. I use the rally's as more of a diversion... just pick a car and go sling it around a dirt track for a while, kind of fun.
