confused about "tuned" cars

I'm somewhat new to GT5P, and am a bit confused about some of the cars needed to complete an online race. I noticed that there was a one car corvette "tuned" race. I went to the dealership and purchased the only car offered. However when I tried to enter the race, it wouldn't let me. I noticed that the corvette had "tuned" in the description. how do I obtain a corvette that meets this requirement?
